Which pieces of content in the online marketing/social media space were the very best of the best in the past 12 months?
-
As you may be aware - SEOmoz are hiring for a marketing oracle (one of 8 jobs going at the moment: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/8-open-positions-at-seomoz). Their key responsibility will be to produce world class content about online marketing, seo and social media.
So, let ask you - what are the best examples of content in this space from the past 12 months? The very best of the best. Don't just think SEO, but any kind of online marketing content. Whether it's editorial, infographic, research etc etc.

EGOLS video has a good idea at its heart buts it fails for me because its about 10x too long - 15 seconds is all you need to show that concept
I bet it lost a ton of its potential reach due to its length before payoff - the client lost out due to the agency's ego
-
I'd seen that site before, but 250,000 FB likes is just insane! Wow...
-
I am going to throw in a single purpose site: http://kimjongillookingatthings.tumblr.com/ .
I don't think it's intended as link bait by any mean, but it has almost 250.000 FB likes and 827 LRD. It even ranks number 5 for Kim Jong Ill in Google and number 8 in Bing.

Have you come across Dave Navarro? Awesome library of free downloadable PDF workbooks: http://www.thelaunchcoach.com/thelibrary (behind an opt-in list)
Similar stuff here: http://www.perrymarshall.com/guerrilla-marketing/ (the same content is packaged into a booklet or audio CD to capture people's addresses and mail a sales letter. Multi-purposing content for list building and link building.
You've also got to be able to emulate The Oatmeal http://theoatmeal.com/story/reddit_how
Seth Godin's 'Linchpin' video was release free yesterday (TL;DR - cut straight to the pw + link at the bottom) http://sethgodin.typepad.com/seths_blog/2011/04/the-paperback-choice-and-the-video-dilemma.html
The trouble is, most of this content is behind opt-in lists or otherwise exclusive to a "tribe". I've a library of my favourite digital downloads I could dropbox you?

No doubt, your post about Google Docs and Fb/Twitter/SU api's its just awesome.
but imho i think these are some great content
- Whiteboard Friday between Rand and Stefan Weitz / Duane forrester (having people like stefan and duane, and "maybe" matt cutts doing a video and sharing their insights on a specific trend/problem /update its very valuable)
- Research like (http://www.seomoz.org/blog/10-illustrations-on-search-engines-valuation-of-links)
- and finally All correlation data that SEOMoz share with its community i think its very valuable
*** After watching EGOL Video... and Ed's Poke the box... u just can delete my answer lol

Great links Ed! Thanks for sharing. Got any more from the wider online marketing space? I think I see all the good SEO stuff but I'd love to know what's been big that's more similar to the "Poke the box" workbook (which I'm checking out right now...)
Thanks!

I really liked... "The Power of Words"... a YouTube video...

Wiep's insanely actionable post that really hits a raw nerve for us SEOs - what to do with failed linkbaits (that's our egos on the line there for one): http://wiep.net/talk/link-building/linkbait-failed-now-what/
Needless to say, Mike's Excel for SEOs guide http://www.distilled.co.uk/excel-for-seo/
The 'Poke the Box' Workbook from The Domino Project & Seth Godin (debate the value of a PDF versus online, but its still vv good): http://www.thedominoproject.com/2011/03/poke-the-box-the-workbook.html
Conversion Rate Factory's traditional dissection of key marketing principles. I love how they publish less often, but just killers stuff each and everytime - I know to always click on them. (Their case studies are especially awesome). Here's just one gem: http://www.conversion-rate-experts.com/100-year-old-persuasion-strategy/
Ah, the most epic YOUmoz post of all time perhaps - the only problem with this in "blog post" format is its slightly more difficult to use: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/the-noob-guide-to-online-marketing-with-giant-infographic-11928
That's some of my most recent finds on StumbleUpon - sure there's plenty more!
Ciao,
Ed

Anyone know of any forums for agencies or those individuals engaged in Internet Marketing, SEO, Integrated Marketing, etc.?
Moz.com is the best forum I have been a part of. There is a local forum I really like but spend less time on (we have staff who live on it.) I am interested in a forum where everyone is agency related. Does anyone know of a good one? If not, would anyone have an interest?

Is there a really good place to find high end, cutting edge web developers online.
My issue is that I know there are a lot of web developers in the world and all of them are great just like all the great SEO's in the world. Does anyone know of a great place to find really top talent that is the kind where the people are constantly stretching and trying new things, etc.

Is there a web dev board the better ones are on, etc. Any luck in other areas? We have a position available, but will not fill it with anyone average or above average. I really would love to know what boards, forums, etc. I can find them on, but every search lists 50 boards and, the is not my everyday world. I just do not know which are the ones that will put me in front of the best in the world. Any help is appreciated. Robert0 -

Is there a Step by Step Online Tutorial for SEOing?
Hi People I know this sounds like a real dumb question, but hey! I thought I would ask. I am a newbie, and after continuously spending $165.00/day for my PPC adwords campaign for the last 5 years, I MUST get my site naturally ranked higher. So as a newbie; yet understanding the basic principles about SEOing, I searched High and Low for an accredited course, an educational programme or anything that looked structured, and had a distinct step by step structure, and to my amazement I couldn't find much. I did find Dan Thiess' online guide, the SEOMOZ guide, and a few other bits n pieces. It appears that SEO learning is all over the place. I couldn't find any courses at the local universities either! So I thought...well what does it take to become an SEO consultant if there's no real formal qualification as such? And my answer was...Experience and proof of experience! That is, a consultant of who has been around for quite a few years and can prove to potential customers that ... hey you see this website www.????.com notice how it's ranked #1 ? That's because of me! So I thought, I would post this question to the forum and 1. See if there is some formidable training course with a valued and recognised qualification upon completion? 2. If I am able to work for a consultant at no charge to them at all in exchange for their knowledge. I have a wealth of experience in business and people management, and Yes I do have some Web Development and IT experience. But I know to some consultants this is a big ask, so I thought I would put it out there! (you never know until you ask.) In the meantime if anyone could possibly guide for a step by step program...that would be greatly appreciated. Cheers George

Same Content or New Content?
Hi Everyone, Hope everyone is doing good. Well, thanks to the input of many people (experts) on this site I have almost arrived at where I want to be, even better than that....I am almost there with confidence because of all the input received from this site. So what have I done? I have redesigned a static website to WordPress, I decided t keep the old link structure which is suffixed .html, and to use redirects if needed. I also swithed hosting service providers to noe that carries htaccess. My last question, well probably not, is do I use the same content from the same pages on the old website to the new, or do i create new content, It is a local service business, new content would not be a problem, however, our current content seems to be ranking well with the old site though. In summary, should I change the content of the new site so "Duplicate Content" does not arise? Should I leave transdfer the content to the new site to maintain on page SEO that has been ranking me good thus far? As Always, any and all input is really appreciated! -jimmy

What is the best way to share good content (and help myself in the process)
i spend a decent amount of my spare time browsing quora, stumbleupon, google reader, pulse, etc keeping up with all the different aspects of internet marketing when i come across a particuarly valuable piece of content i take a few seconds and share it using hootsuite on my linked, twitter, facebook (i spread them out so there is only one post a day) this rewards those who write valuable content but im not doing anything to benefit my site - www.sawwebmarketing.com im establishing myself as somebody who has good stuff to share to my potential clients.... what a quick, easy way to share the high quality things i come across that will create links for me as well? (short of writing my own blog post listing the high quality articles i found with my thoughts on each) thoughts? opinions? thanks everybody! Matthew

Picking a degree that will benefit SEO/IM career
I really had no idea where to place this question as there seemed to be no 'suitable' place. I do though feel that it is a viable question and would appreciate any responses that I receive. Essentially, I'm currently working full time doing digital marketing covering most general aspects as it is in-house and primarily local venturing to maybe 50-70 miles in the region of the local area. I'm doing SEO, PPC, Social Media etc. I'm certified in networking (I studied in Australia) and have my UK GCSEs along with a variety of other general certifications e.g. business. The college in the area where I work is offering a NVQ in digital marketing and social media so although I'm self taught I'm currently doing this once a month purely for the paper to recognize that I know what I'm doing. Anyway, getting to the point. I have the opportunity to pursue a degree long term with my employer. I've always had an interest in actually learning to code in a web development language (I can cope at the moment with PHP and do what I need to do) and I've also had an interest in developing iPhone apps etc. What degree would you recommend in aiding a career in SEO and Digital/Internet marketing in general?. To me it seems to boil down to either a marketing degree or a web development degree. Thank you in advance, I would love to hear your own experience and what you have a degree in. Thanks, Luke Hutchinson.
