Most Important Keyword Term
-
Question about a sites most important keyword term.
So lets say you have a website and your most important keyword term is "Blue Widgets", you also have a page named "blue-widgets.htm". What do we do with our index page in this instance? Especially for the title tag? Should I put "Blue Widgets" in the title tags of both pages? I'm guessing this would be a duplicate meta tag error?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

When changing the title meta tag to: KW | Company Name
I have a little extra room, should I add the City and State to the end of the meta tag?
-
Ok, I could see doing that if the url was a keyword term. That makes a lot of sense now. Our url is the brand of the company so putting the main keyword term first may be a better strategy.
I could also seeing doing that if my business was based on the internet.

I normally don't use my domain in the title tag. However, in this situation my domain is KW.com and the #1 SERP that I am after is "KW".
I do have subpages for all of those keywords. In fact, one is a blog and the other three are index pages for large sections of my site.
On most other pages of this site the domain is not in the title tag because I feel that the space is more importantly used for other things such as.....
<title>Article Title | A phrase to elicit clicks</title>
People will see the domain name in the URL.
-
Yes, it might be better to place it afterwards. However, in this situation I have the KW.com and it is the dominant website in those SERPs and the strongest brand in that niche. It also ranks #1 for KW.

EGOL,
Do you have sub pages for all of those keywords? With the page named according to the keywords?
That is the first time I've ever seen a recommendation to put the url in the title tag. I don't think I've seen that anywhere. What advantage does that have over placing a keyword first.

I used the SeoMoz tool On Page Keyword Optimization, one of the adivces the tool gave me is that I should put the keyword as the first word of my page title, since Google give's a lot more value to the keyword if it appears in the first place of the title tag.
So, based on that yesterday I made a slighty modification on the <title>in one of my sites.</p> <p>Changed from " Company Name - Keyword " to just "Keyword"</p> <p>Today I checked 2 keywords that im optmizing this site for, in one of then my site jumped 23 positions, in the other, around 30 positions up.</p> <p>Kinda astonishin I would say, anyway, in the case you exemplified, wouldnt be better to put Domain.com after the keywords ?</p></title>

The index page of most websites is the most powerful page.
Smart people use that most powerful page to go after their most difficult or most profitable keywords.
Use it wisely.
Your suggested use of "blue widgets" in the title tag of the homepage will not result in a problem. It's smart business, IMO.
The title tag of the homepage on one of my sites reads.... "Domain.com: KW1, KW2, KW3, KW4" As a result I have #1 and #2 rankings for all four of those keywords with my KW page and index page both ranking for them.
Some people will say that is spammy.... It does not bother me. It reads well and gives me the clearly dominant site in those SERPs.

Here's what I would do, make the title tag of your home page "Main Keyword | Website Name" and then make the title tag of your blue-widgets.html page be "Main Keyword | Secondary Keyword | Tertiary Keyword" so that both kind of mention the keyword, but don't specifically target identical phrases. This is not a bad thing to do because it is part of how you would get a double listing anyway.
You also won't get meta duplication info this way or anything.

Why is my Google search bringing me other keywords than what I typed in?
When searching Condor Voucher on Google US where our business operates the SERP results show results on the first page that do not contain the keyword Voucher at all but instead Condor Coupons and Condor Promo Codes. Is this due to relevance of the other sites(higher search volume keyword), their domain authority, page authority, better authoritative content? Or does Google recognize that voucher is not often used in US and uses more common keywords such as Coupon and Promo Code? Therefore we cant rank for a term with such a low search volume?

Keyword research
I know this is a dumb question but how do I perform a full keyword research in MOZ? Saw this post: http://moz.com/help/pro/researching-high-potential-keywords but that's pretty much outdated. I appreaciate your response. Thanks,Tony

What came first the content or the keyword research?
So I've been searching high and low to try and answer this. I just cant seem to get this part down and i know its the most important part. I always run into the issue where i am building a e commerce or some other site and i have it all set up but no content. So i start doing keyword research. In which the market niche that i am working on now is really broad, so its really hard to research. I then end up getting frustrated because the competition for the words are really high. But back on track, i get frustrated and then kaboom! i don't get the results i want and i am back to square one and no content is made or nothing. So my webpage gets nothing. So i took a step back and wondered, should i make all the content first and then the keyword research and then go back and "revise" my website content with all my keywords that i a trying to target? Sounds like a dumb question but i just wanted feedback and input on how people do this and go forth with everything.

What makes a highly competitive keyword anyway?
Hello guys, so I'm still wet behind the ears and am currently reading SEO an Hour a Day, as well as going through the Moz tutorial. But I do have a question that's been confusing me a bit. I've been doing keyword research here and there and I will get a "Highly Competitive" keyword (61%) at times. So then I try to go through each of the top 10 pages to see the anchors that they've used and how many backlinks there are to that page. A lot of the times the page with have 0 backlinks and a very low page authority (like 1) but it will still rank in 2, or 3. So what exactly makes it competitive? I know I must be missing something super simple here! Maybe I'm not accurately assessing the anchor/backlinks to that specific keyword. I use backlinkwatch, opensite explorer and the keyword difficulty report. Thanks guys!

Keyword Research Tool
Which tool is most reliable to do Keyword Research ? I have observed that data in Google Keywords Tool seems to fluctuate a lot. For instance a particular keyword in GKT had an exact Global Search Volume of 2800 3 days back , today it is around 1200 . I can not make decisions on such unreliable data ...

To Meta Keyword or Not To Meta Keyword, That Is The Question
I can't seem to get a reliable answer on this one. It seems to be split down the middle as far as who agrees and who doesn't, of course some of that content is outdated. So, for today, should I be using the meta keywords tag or not? Thanks, Steven

Keyword and Keyphrases
I'm looking to optimise my website for some keywords and keyphrases I'm getting a bit confused on how different pages might compete (or help) each other. As we are an automotive dealer I was thinking about building the hompage around 4 keywords (one for each franchise we represent e.g 'Ford'). These show high local monthly searches and medium competition for just the manufacturer name on its own. Then if someone drills down into a franchise homepage (linked from our homepage e.g. www.ourwebsite.com/ford) I was thinking to optimise the page around e.g. 'Ford Dealer' (which has medium local monthly searches and high competition). Then if someone drills down into a particular model I optimise around that and so on. Question is will I be playing the franchise homepage vs the group homepage (Ford vs Ford Dealer) as I have read here on Keyword Cannibalization? Or will it work together? Alternative I guess is not to focus around a franchise on the group homepage and then only focus on the franchise from the franchise homepage onwards but I feel I would be missing a trick? As a new kid on the block help will be most appreciated.
