Is Creating a Lot of Content A Bad SEO Strategy?

In Danny Dover's book, Search Engine Optimization Secrets, he talks about how every page on your site should be at least a little linkworthy, or it is just sucking link juice from the rest of the site and not contributing any.
Does this mean that creating a lot of content, (like a daily news article on your site that summarizes industry news or something similar) is not a good SEO strategy?
Should you limit the amount of content pages on your site unless it can attract links or hits on one of your target keywords?

I think it all comes down to the quality of the content, the ease of readability, and the ability to not diverge too far from the primary topic.
I personally find pages that are endless content, such as blog indexes that load entire articles on the page, to be quite annoying. In that scenario, helping SEO is outweighed by harming user experience. And if the sub-topics wander too far, it can dilute the primary topical focus of the page.
So with proper planning, and user experience considerations, sure, it can be done. Heck, there's a common belief that short blog articles are better than long ones. Yet some of my best, most read, most linked-to blog articles have gone on seemingly forever.
On the flip side, my "Anatomy of an SEO Audit" articles were each strong enough on their own that it was best to split it out into four pieces. Not only did it make readability a bit more reasonable, it gave me three additional "new content" opportunities, and I got to link across all of them by the 4th article, Yet two more valid SEO factors to consider.

I am interested in your comment. I agree with the "supporting pages" idea and employ that on many parts of my websites. The main page attacks a primary keyword and the supporting pages attack secondary keywords. The anchor text links between the pages might help the rankings.
However, I am also finding success with another method...
Place all of the content on one page to create a very long and impressive document. The length (and word diversity) causes that page to pull a lot of long-tail traffic. Also, the size of these documents might make a favorable impression on other webmasters who are looking for an authoritative document to link to. Maybe Google also favorably considers the length and subtopic diversity of these documents?
Another variation would be to treat the article like the index page of a blog that has the full text of each blog post displayed. Each of the subtopics is a subheading on that page and the <h>tag used for the subheading is linktext to a secondary page with full text and images displayed.</h>
Any thoughts on those?

I'd offer a slightly different perspective.
If you create lots of content that supports a higher level page, many of those supporting pages might very well not ever garner any external links. Yet they very well could offer tremendous value in boosting the primary page's value from an internal linking perspective as well as an inbound link perspective.
For example - if you want to be known as THE AUTHORITY on all things related to widgets, you'd be wise to have many second and even third tier content pages within your site structure. The vast majority, if not all of the inbound links would point to the higher level pages exactly BECAUSE you've got all that depth.

- Creating a lot of good content is a good strategy.
(Assuming it's done in balance with your capacity.)
Content is the king but a kingdom needs other roles to run smoothly so I would not completely sacrifice other SEO activities just to satisfy monthly content needs.
One example of content being a problem is when too many pages discuss the same topic and fragment your inbound links, diluting the effect. This would only be good if that was only way to get as many diverse inbound links.

In general, the answer to this is YES, don't put up pages that are not going to attract links or search traffic. The exception would be pages on topics such as "ordering information"... "privacy policy".... etc.

If you run a content site the best way to bring in "new money" is to publish new content. However, you might be careful about creating pages about "news". Those pages might be "new content" but they become "old content" quickly.
If you are going to have a site that places an emphasis on news and does a good job of it then publishing news is a good idea. However, if you have any other goal then a focus on "evergreen" content might be a better strategy.

The etiquette of reproducing someone else's content
Hello - Here is a scenario, representative of something that I just saw play out. Site A is a new blog about travel (as an example topic) Site B is an older, established blog about travel Site C is a new blog launched and owned by Site B that focuses on a particular travel niche (luxury travel, for example) Here is what happens next Site A writes an original piece of content Site C then republishes Site A's content, paraphrasing all of the text, but giving Site A credit with a link Site B (the established site) publishes a blurb about the article, directing readers with a link to "read more" on Site C. It credits Site A as the original author, but does not link to it. If you were able to follow that, here is what I would like to know. Did Site C do anything wrong by republishing a paraphrased version of Site A's content, even though it gave credit with a link? Did Site B do anything wrong by linking to Site C (which is for all intents and purposes the same website), but not linking to Site A (the original source)? My sense is that the established blog (Site B) is trying to get it's new publication (Site C) to outrank the original author (Site A) using its own content. In general though, I am curious to get some thoughts on this situation because it raises a few ethical questions that I am not sure about, namely: Is there anything wrong with publishing "spun" content, if it is done well and links back to the source? Is there anything wrong with linking to a republished version of an article on a sister website, rather than linking to the original article. Thanks

Can We Publish Duplicate Content on Multi Regional Website / Blogs?
Today, I was reading Google's official article on Multi Regional website and use of duplicate content. Right now, We are working on 4 different blogs for following regions. And, We're writing unique content for each blog. But, I am thinking to use one content / subject for all 4 region blogs. I work on a uk decorating website with five of our own bloggers all of which reside on the home page of the website on their own separete blogging urls as sub domains - is this a good idea or would google not like this from an seo point of view?
Should blogs that are part of an overall content site be on separate sites and link in or is it ok to promote them as content on the home page of the site and take users off to their own url to view the site. Is this good practise for seo?

What is your strategy in looking for content to write relative to your niche?
looking to keep adding to our blog in a big way. Things I use are questions we get a lot, we add them to blog and answer them - works quite nicely. Look at other blogs although in our industry its not really there, etc. What are some of your strategies for looking for content to write about?

RSS feeds with dup content and titles
Hi, For my Buddypress site I use a tool to create sites with RSS feeds. Each site is for a different feed, but the number of dup tiles and content is running in the thousands. I've been trying to reduce the dups, but have begun to think there is more trouble from such content than benefit. Should I dump the content or ignore the errors flagged by SEOMOZ? Any ideas if thes RSS feed dups are hurting my BuddyPress site? Any suggestions in general about how to eliminate such dupe for a Buddypress Site, eg. the activity log. Larry

Question - Hidden Content via 'Read More;'
Hi, Does having text in hidden areas (that are expandable with a button) harm their value in SEO? E.g. there are 'read more' areas on the homepage of this site that have content that is not accessible otherwise. Second Blog on the Same Site? Best SEO Practice
I would like to start up another blog which has more of a "technical" topic coverage vs my regular blog, which appeals more to non-techie business folks. If the goal is to drive traffic ultimately to the main site, should I do this second blog on a different domain, a subdomain, or try to incorporate it as a separate-but-equal blog on the same domain as the currrent one? What would you do?

Content issue
Hi, Quick question; I have set up a micro site in which i was going to take some of the content from my reviews and recipes my customers have posted and have them placed on my other site. The site i currently have is a large site receiving over 200,00 visitors every day. Will this be affected as duplicate content if i was to do this as i do not want to affect my rankings.
