Landing Pages for Generating Leads - Must They Be Optimized for SEO?
-
Question about landing pages:
There are landing pages created just for classified advertising.
They are stand alone pages. And, are not linked to website (although one can
get there via the url)The purpose of these pages is to generate leads.
They are keyword rich in title, head and content
Content varies, only by 30%
Should those pages be optimized like websites?
They have a nofollow tag, is that enough?
Thank you for taking the time to answer.

Looks like we have some "testing" of the landing pages to do.
-
Yeah. I hear what you are saying about variations on the same keywords.
These landing pages are different types of investments. Luckily the keywords are different, like widgets and gadgets instead of huge widgets and large widgets.
We will watch to see if the pages are blocked or not.
-
Lead generation for real estate investments.
Ads are created and uploaded in-house.
urls are keyword rich too.
Links, of course, are not optimized, becase there are no links.
-
Correct. The landing pages do not link to the website or any other pages.
They are stand alone pages with double opt-in webform for them to submit their information.

In our experience if you are going to have more than a few landing pages (for whatever reason) don't optimize them, and do "blocked from accidental indexing by robots.txt" As EGOL states. You will find yourself in Optimization heck if you have a bunch of pages fighting for the same basic keywords.

People who really know what they are doing create lots of landing pages of nearly identical content that are optimized for the EXACT keywords or advertising creatives that deliver traffic.
For example, if you are selling really big widgets you might target "Huge Widgets" and "Giant Widgets" in your Adwords campaign. To keep the searchers mind in gear you can have separate landing pages for each of those search terms. These unique landing pages usually have higher conversion rates and higher Adwords quality scores. The financial difference can be enormous.
Some sites have hundreds of landing pages for a single product - each identically matched for specific search queries. These pages are often generated by using a program to place each of the keywords in the cookie-cutter template.
Although these pages will be on your domain they are not part of your indexed website and may be blocked from accidental indexing by robots.txt.

Hi Peggy, I have done some work on classifieds before. When you say lead generation, you mean that you want people to register their interest in the product advertised? Regardless of the use, if these are landing pages which are generating traffic I would strongly recommend optimizing these pages. I know it is impractical to do when there are a lot of pages but you can add generic title tags with a character limit so your website would look - [custom title] | Yoursite.com. Is your classified advert user generated or are they generated by yourself? If it's generating traffic I would work on them, personally.
It's a little tricky to judge without the URL so It might be a little generic.

Hey Peggy,
Just to clarify: These pages are on your main domain, but not linked to by any other page? Do these pages link to other pages on the domain?
If you fear that there might be a DC issue, then better not list these pages in your sitemap.xml and make them noindex (and follow, so if someone links to it you get the linkpower to your indexed pages). It's hard to answer whether 30% variation would be sufficient, but you could try to get a few indexed and see how they rank (if at all).
If you dont index them, you might want to optimise for conversion and not so much for SEO purposes.

URL structure of the page: Does this one need to contain the most important keyword for better SEO?
Hi everyone, I’m trying to get "air-conditioner-repair.html" to rank higher for the keyword "air conditioner los angeles". I am wondering whether or not I should change URL to "air-conditioner-los-angeles-repair.html" to get better results? Will be thankful very much for any advise you can offer!

On-Page Optimization Question
My company sells Blue widgets and we are located in Denver, CO. Keyword research indicates that the the highest volume phrase is "blue widgets for sale in denver co". Should my meta title tag be: Blue Widgets for sale in Denver CO , and my h1 tag be the same? or should they be semantic phrases? Thanks in advance!

Static pages with dynamic content: Good for SEO?
I wanted to know ones thoughts on reducing duplication by creating a static page with a few dynamic fields. Has anyone done this? If 75% of a page is static and 25% is dynamic, is that a good ratio? It's an idea I am thinking about to combat duplication issues affecting ecommerce pages. Some ecommerce sites generate a new page for a small change like size, but the content is the same. What if you could create a single static page and depending on the size chosen, only those fields connected to the size are dynamic? Everything else remains the same. For caching purposes, you always submit a cached page with default values. Wouldn't this work? Isn't this a solution for duplicate ecommerce pages? It would also help in ranking, rather than multiple external links across duplicate ecommerce pages, it would just be to a single page.

On Page Optimization not updating after SSL change
Last week we changed our URLs to be only HTTPS (they were a mixture of both for a couple of weeks). We did this by adding a 301 redirect from HTTP to HTTPS. However, the On Page Optimization is now showing the same URL/Keyword twice for a few of our pages. One has a grade A, one has a grade B. The grade B complains about "Rel Canonical" not matching, but the other doesn't. This is pretty confusing - should it not have crawled the pages and noticed the 301 redirects and combined the entries or removed the HTTP ones?

Adding dynamic item to static page - good for SEO?
We have a static page we want to rank for a competitive phrase. Would it help, or would it make little to no difference, if we added a small dynamic item to the page so that each time the googlebot visited the page it wouldn't be 100% the same as the last time it visited? The reason to do this would be because of the belief that Google likes pages that update once in a while. The dynamic portion of the page wouldn't be as simple as a page counter, but it wouldn't be very elaborate either. A tiny portion of the page. Think of something like current temperature or current CPU utilization (it won't be that, but it will be a small updating number that is not incrementing like current time or a page counter). Would that make any difference at all? (I know there will be responses that I should add real updating data to the page to make it dynamic; let's take that one off the table for right now --trying to see if there's something I can do that is simpler for now). Thanks.

Blog page outranks static page for KW -- why?
Blog page ranks 10 in Google, while the static page is on page 7. What makes it more interesting is that the blog page scores an "F" with the Term Target tool while the static page scores an "A". Static page has more inbound links and a mR/mT of 3.89/ 4.54 vs. 3.71/ 4.14 for the blog page. Any ideas on how to approach this one?

Organic Landing Pages...
For one of our sites (fastcubes.com) I noticed our landing pages were ranking and getting a few organic visits. Considering they were made specifically for PPC, I thought maybe we should create landing pages that would not be present in the navigation of the site but for the purpose of optimizing for keyword variations. For example work station cubicles vs office workstation. We have a page optimized for office workstation but having another optimized for work station cubicles is redundant. Would it be a good idea to create this as a page that is not present in the navigation for the sole person of hopefully being ranked and getting traffic for that specific keyword? Thank you in advance for your help!!
