Facebook Comments | Massive Overall Increase in Rankings! Anybody else experience this?
-
Last week I implemented Facebook Comments and Addthis to my site. Rankings went up for nearly all my keywords. I have people from Africa, Europe and USA asking questions. Every time someone comments, it is shared on their Facebook Wall.
I want to know if anybody has experienced this besides me?
Here's my site if you want to see it in action.

Interesting...is this common practice?

I just took a look at your blog. From my view point, there is no reason for me to click "Twitter’s Online Marketing Possibilities Largely Untapped" when I can read the post right there on the home page. There is not enough content. I would have never reached the page where the FB Comments are.
Your other post "Can Google+ Bring Online Marketing Strands Together?"only has 152 words. I wouldn't have gone to the second page since I would have read the article right there on the home page.
You are getting tweets though. I think people may be tweeting your article off the home page because it's so easy access.
Why are all your images going to Flicker? Why not on the server to keep PR.

I'm going to noFollow the links as SEOmoz did when they used ADDTHIS.
-
The Facebook Comments would contribute to traffic, and possibly the Addthis has some effect. Yet in my opinion the Addthis sharing buttons are not the best as they have hidden links back to the addthis website so if you have 100,000 pages they get 100k pages links. I would go for other sharing buttons options.

If users are sticking around on your site, adding comments, and engaging more, that data is tracked through tool bars and chrome on google, that equates to a better UX and better scores.
The conventional wisdom is that Panda is updated every X days, but that is not to say that other metrics that Google has aren't included in a more real time manner.
If you just added comments to your site, that is good for your users and you will thus get more SEO etc in the long run anyway.

FB shares, it's possible, but maybe it need more than 1.5 weeks, but possible in short-time too, i will try tonight with new domain name, try to place the facebook comment plugin, with single index.php page, well optimized, and to make a test if i can rank it higher for brand name.
Thanks!

Hey EGOL, I think you may be right. The Facebook Comments is an iFrame, but the amount of FB Shares & Likes are probably what's making my rankings higher. I know people are now naturally linking to me. I can see it in GWT.
-
I know which one you are talking about. I don't want to clutter up my page with comments because it's not a blog. I don't want to confuse the reader. I am totally fine with an iFrame and me limiting comments to 10. It tool about 1.5 weeks. I don't know if it was the Facebook Comments or just the sheer amount of Facebook Shares that made my rankings go up. I'm thinking it's more the FB shares.

I will try this tactic too, some days before was one post on youmoz, talking about making facebook comments indexed by google.
When have you started this comment tactic? how many days must vait for an rank effect?
thanks

Great to hear that your rankings are up!
I bet that FB has little to do with it... I would be betting on some juicy links taking effect.
-
What is your site?
-
I have this added to my blog but have really struggled to see any kind of response from comments. Any suggestions or is it just down to the content.
-
Never heard of it, but it seems like a GREAT idea. Glad it's working for you.

Anyone have any ideas?

Does a link in facebook count as a backlink?
Q: Does a link in a facebook post count as a backlink? Q: is it a 'do follow' or 'no follow' link? Q: twitter uses short links, so when someone links to me, do i get the points/juice from the backlink?

What percentage of people will Like/Share something on Facebook vs. Liking/Sharing from a website?
I asked this on Quora and am curious what the Moz community has to offer: http://www.quora.com/What-percentage-of-people-will-Like-Share-something-on-Facebook-vs-Liking-Sharing-from-a-website If I have a blog post that I share on Facebook and I receive 1,000 Likes and/or Shares, what's the percentage of those Likes/Shares that will come from people interacting with the post in their Facebook news feed vs. people Liking/Sharing the article on my blog? I realize many factors are at play here (type of content, audience, time of day, blog design, etc.) but have there been any studies that attempted to address this question?

Short Facebook page name/vanity URL
Does anyone know how to go about getting a page name on Facebook of less than 5 characters? I saw Moz was able to claim facebook.com/moz (BTW, congrats on the redesign!), and many other brands also have claimed page names under 5 characters. Has anyone else had success claiming a short page name? Do you have to know the right person at Facebook, or are there other requirements? We have around 35K likes on our page, and our site gets a pretty good amount of traffic. My boss doesn't like any of my ideas that are 5+ characters... she really wants the short URL. If anyone has any insights on what I need to do (or who I need to talk to at Facebook), I'd really appreciate it!

Should I have Facebook Likes on my webpage point to a Facebook page or just the domain?
We have a Like button on our site which currently Like's our domain. I'm wondering if it would be better if it Liked a Facebook page for our company. The benefit of liking the domain as I can see it is that when it appears on timelines a click will take you directly to our site.

Facebook Like on URLs
I have a doubt regarding the facebook LIKES for URLs Case 1: By using a Facebook Like Button (for URL) on my page(s). Here people are coming to my page and giving like directly on my page. Case 2: Here i'm not using any Facebook Like plugins on page, But my page got shared on facebook pages and profiles. And people are giving likes on facebook.com for my shared links. Is this two count as different methods? Explain me please.

Should my Facebook like button be for my Facebook page or my webpage?
I am curious as to people's opinion about the Facebook like button you add to a given website. It would seem with the increased influence of social media indicators that you would want to have people "like" your webpage (as opposed linking the like back to your Facebook page) when they go to your webpage, but this dilutes the number of likes you get at both Facebook and your webpage. It is my understanding that people are more likely to "like" a page that already has a lot of "likes." As most of my clients are very small businesses, this is a significant consideration as their "like" volumes are very low by default (i.e., if you only have a few hundred people who even use your business it is hard to get thousands of likes). Thanks for your opinion!
