Best SEO Analysis Tool
-
I'm looking for a tool that will analyze a webpage for a specific keyword phrase and deliver good recommendations as to what I can do (on page and off page) to increase the Google ranking for that keyword phrase.
I'm trying IBP now, but so far the results haven't been good. Any suggestions?
-
Thanks Mike.
After a second look, I see another page of our site ranking well for the keyword phrase. It's ranked 5th. That probably has something to do with why the other page is ranked so poorly.
The page ranked 5th is also getting an "A" rating from the On Page Keyword Optimization tool. It has a PA of 39, the DA is 50.
The PA of pages ranked 1 - 4 are; 33, 40, (unknown: Amazon), and 25.

Page Authority is explained here.
www.seomoz.org/learn-seo/page-authority
It's our number one metric to understand why a client ranks some where on a page. Have lot's of clients who start with an A grade on the Keyword tool, but are not ranked. It's the Pages "PA" that has the largest determining factor in ranking. (In general)

The site I tested is a national site. I'm not familiar with "PA" and "DA". Could you spell that out for me. Thanks you.
-
If your page is getting an A, can you tell us the PA and DA on the page and domain, and what those are for the competition?
Is this a national site , or Local. If local there are several other factors that will apply.

Hi Frank
As Michael and Simon have said the SEOmoz on page tool is great for this.
In terms of getting good recommendations for how to optimise you just need to look at the 'Factor Overview' and then go through each of the factors in 'Page Analysis Detail', click 'more' and it explains what is best practice there.
I really don't think you need any other software or tools for on-page optimisation although as suggested there are some for Wordpress but unfortunately I don't know any for the two you mentioned.
If, as you say, you get grade A but you're on page 3 of the serps then your on-page seo is good but perhaps the competition is stronger off-page and that is the area that needs the attention?
How do your domain and page metrics compare to the competition? Have you tried the keyword difficulty tool which is fantastic:
Run that for your keyword and then run a full serps report to see the competition level?
Let us know how you get on.
Cheers
Trevor

I've got one site running on Joomla and the other (an ancient site) running on Interchange. Any suggestions on plugins that can help in either of those environments?
-
I just spent a few minutes testing that tool and the recommendations are basic and not very useful. I one test, a not terribly competitive keyword phrase that's ranking on page three in Google delivered an "A" rating for the page.
Thanks, but I need something more robust.

The SEO Moz tools are great. If your site is wordpress there are a number of wordpress plugins that can help.

The best tool for this, hands down, is the SEOmoz On Page Keyword Optimization Tool (if you've never used it). I'm not sure what IBP is, but this tool lets you input a keyword and the specific URL/page you're targeting for that keyword and they will give you a grade based on how well it's optimized and what you should do to improve that grade if it didn't get a good one. I use it CONSTANTLY.
Hope this helps!

SEO dealing with a CDN on a site.
This one is stumping me and I need some help. I have a client who's site is www.site.com and we have set them up a CDN through Max CDN at cdn.site.com which is basically a cname to the www.site.com site. The images in the GWT for www.site.com are de-indexing rapidly and the images on cdn.site.com are not indexing. In the Max CDN account I have the images from cdn.site.com sending a canonical header from www.site.com but that does not seem to help, they are all still de-indexing.

Webmaster Tools and Geolocation
Our site gets a significant amount of traffic from Venezuela, about 9% based on our Google Analytics (the US being 63%). According to Webmaster Tools we get 48% of our clicks from Venezuela. That discrepancy is massive, considering we are an English site. My theory is that they are not allowed/capable of using secure search in Venezuela for some legal reason and therefore their searches are much more 'visible'. Does anyone have any insight?

Changing URL Parameters in Webmaster Tools
We have a bit of a conundrum. Webmaster tools is telling us that they are crawling too many URLs: Googlebot found an extremely high number of URLs on your site: http://www.uncommongoods.com/ In their list of URL examples, all of the URLs have tons of parameters. We would probably be ok telling Google not to index any of the URLs with parameters. We have a great URL structure. All of our category and product pages have clean links (no parameters) The parameters come only from sorts and filters. We don't have a need for Google to index all of these pages. However, Google Analytics is showing us that over the last year, we received a substantial amount of search revenue from many of these URLs (800+ of them converted) So, Google is telling us they are unhappy. We want to make Google happy by ignoring all of the paramter URLs, but we're worried this will kill the revenue we're seeing. Two questions here: 1. What do we have to lose by keeping everything as-is. Google is giving us errors, but other than that what are the negative repercussions? 2. If we were to de-index all of the parameter URLs via Webmaster tools, how much of the revnenue would likely be recovered by our non-parameter URLs? Verifying Site Ownership & Setting Up Webmaster tools for clients who use Hubspot
We are a Hubspot partner agency. I'm trying to find the best route for managing Google's tools as an extra resource for insight, not the primary basis for marketing effort. I also want to explore adwords in more depth. Finding a lot of our clients don't have one or the other or both Analytics/Webmaster tools in place. Can I verify site ownership to set up webmaster tools simply by having admin access to their analytics account or will that require ownership of the analytics account? With Google merging things together these days I'm not sure of the best approach to take. Usually clients have their site hosted somewhere and built on some platform and ADD a Hubspot blog and the landing pages/cta's, Hubspot tools on a subdomain hosted by Hubspot. Hubspot has tools in it's website settings for adding google analytics (actually it's just a field to add code to the header area). If a client has universal analytics on their primary domain do I still need to go and add a separate analytics property for the subdomain and go through Hubspot's tools to install it on the subdomain? Or just use the same code from their primary domain and add it to the Hubspot header? What is the best route? Any additional thoughts on this subject are welcome - with so much updating and changing coming from Google (and Hubspot as we implement 3.0 - COS) I'm trying to avoid wasted effort, outdated methods, etc. Thanks!

What is the best tool to look at Internal Links?
My site has on average 220 internal links a page largely due to how the site is built ie every page shows every link via the menu system, which isnt great, but from what i have read there isnt much i can do about it. However, this week 3 pages jumped to over 400 links and the home page over 500 internal links, GWT will only show me 200 of them, Is there a tool that i can use that will list all my internal links, so i can find out why this has happened? Thanks Ash

ROI in SEO
Hi there! I'm just doing the SEO for a client and I just don't know exactly how could I estimate the ROI associated to the SEO actions that are taking place. Should I only consider the conversions made via organic search? Is there another parameter, metric or item I must measure? . Is there something "formal" to follow'? I think I'm missing something. Thanks in advanced.

Backlink Profile in Webmaster Tools
The quest for the "accurate" backlink profile never ends. We now have Webmaster Tools to help us with this search. My question is whether the backlink profile according to WT is the backlink profile according to Google. Do Google's search algorithms and WT synch up? If this is the case, forget OSE and MajesticSEO, WT will be the main backlink analysis tool I use going forward. Thanks for any insight.
