Why Post Useless Blog Comments
-
I notice that I'm getting a lot of spammy blog comments on a personal interest site. Why would someone go to all that trouble to get a nofollow link that will most likely not be approved?
-
I'm pretty sure Akismet does blacklist people based on IP. I've heard several people complain that they got accidentally blacklisted and couldn't comment on any Akismet blogs.
See here for a little info: http://www.growmap.com/akismet-test/

Wayne : I share your concern for allowing users to post comments without hastles and approve every comment. There ought to be a widget that compares the commenter's IP Address and cross references it against a list of known Bots or spammers. If you find something off-list, please PM me.

Yes, you're right. I didn't mean Akismet specifically. I think my comment was more generally aimed at treading the line between wanting to encourage participation and making it so tough that people won't.
-
I may be wrong, but I think these plugins are designed to detect bots and that they only implement their security features if they do think it's a bot.
I post comment on blogs that use Akismet all the time and I'm never prompted to fill out a captcha or do anything more than check one box, so I wouldn't worry about scaring people away.
-
Using Akismet myself. I'm just reluctant to use make it so hard to participate that people won't bother, if you know what I mean.
-
If it's a WP site, there are several plugins to deal with this. Akismet, which comes installed with WP, is one of them.
I also use WPSpamFree and spam comments never get past it.
I've also seen this where you have to check a box to say you are human (which bots can't do) - http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/growmap-anti-spambot-plugin/
-
I thought about it but can't do it since I hate captchas myself
-
I would recommend you to install captcha. Of course a lot of bots know can pass through it. But at least you will reduce the qty of spam links.
-
I have a few blogs and bots seem to be leaving most of my comments. Leaving some comments do offer some nice juicy links. I do like to read through the comments making sure my human friends are engaged with my site.
-
Yup it's spambots like xrumer or w/e there is. Blackhatters tend to blast out like 10k links at once of which most won't get approved. It's quite annoying. Every WP blog I started so far was getting buried in these. Thank god for anti-spam widgets.
-
Bots more then likely.
I noticed this on a personal Wordpress site I had were the only thing ever done to the site was post 1 joke. A couple months later I start receiving notifications of replies, all of which were spam.
Anybody in their right mind would have seen the site was horrible and vanilla, and avoided it, bots on the other hand don't care.
If it starts becoming annoying you can always add a recaptcha verification.

Starting Blog
Right now my page speed is above my competitors but I'm concern about the effect blog pluggins could have on my speed page. What would be a good plugin to start doing this without affecting too much to my speed page rank? My site: https://dentistaslaspalmasgc.es/

Guest posting
HI, I wrote an article for photography life over 6 months ago and was surprised to discover it is placed second in the serps for the keywords "nikon cls" I have just written another 1500 word article for another photography blog and I am wondering if I will serve myself better just writing the content for my own site? Best wishes. David.

Cluster of outbound links on blog
Hi, If a blog has a section which contains 40 outbound links almost like a blogroll do you think Google looks at this cluster as suspicious? Could this come across like paid links to Google?

Guest Blog Posting : Is that all it is made out to be?
Experts frequently mention that one of the best way to build the link is to guest blog with some authoritative blogs in your niche after Penguin, Panda and other animals invaded SEO landscape. At the same time everyone agrees that "Content is the king" and if you have unique and useful content, people would link to you without any extra efforts on your part. Do you see any contradiction in those statements? I spent my time, my resource, my genius writing up very good posts. As a matter of fact all my post are good (IMHO), but I can churn out only 2 or 3 masterpieces per month. Should I share my content willingly as a guest post to other websites who are not my local direct competitor of course, but nonetheless are in my niche, thus adding to their authority on the subject? I will get a link out of it. Would I get a significant traffic? I doubt that. At least from my limited experience. Or should I strengthen my own site striving to be such authority in my niche? But without strong external link profile Google shall frown upon me and my site. Personally I inclined more to save most of the content for my own blog. What do you gals and guys think?

301 redirect blog network to main site, good or bad?
Hi, Here is a newbie question. When we launched our web shop 18 months ago I started eight blogs on a different host with keyword rich domain names to get some links to the shop. Today I don't update them, but they have a lot of links to our shop and the blogs have something like DA 20 and PA 30-40. There are lots of links between the blogs as well. Can I do 301 redirects of the blogs/posts to the web shop to rank higher in the SERP for the keywords? If I do, what happens to the links from the blogs to the shop? Will the shop loose a lot of links, but gain in PA, DA, mR etc? Overall, would the shop/main site benefit from this? Or should I just leave the blogs and not mess with them? They don't have much traffic. I appreciate any input, thanks!

Best to create a new blog as a subsection or as a new site?
Our company has a blog "feature" or "theme" that we'd like to publish every week at least. Should we create a subsection of our current company blog? Or should we register a new domain specifically for the feature? The latter would allow us to do some linking back to the main website, and would probably be good in terms of future career flexibility / personal branding for whoever writes it. Things to keep in mind? Anyone have any suggestions? Best practices? What should I do?
