New site not ranking for it's name
-
Performed on-page SEO for this new site that went live a couple of weeks ago - no link building or anything of that nature yet.
I'm starting to see the site rank on Bing for some keyword phrases but it doesn't rank for the business name "Maven Management" on any major search engine.
SEOMoz gives my on page optimization an A for the business name for the home page. Am I just being impatient? I didn't really put much effort into ranking for the business name because that generally seems to happen without any issue. There are other companies online with the same name.
Any insight is appreciated.

Hi,
Did you use Bing Webmaster Tools ? If no just sign in, add a site, go to Index --> Submit url's and eventually add your site url's. It really helps it's like pushing Bing to index your site url's.
I use it for every page despite Bing is not popular search engine in Poland - where I come from
Good luck!
Marek
PS. BTW I worked for biggest leasing equipment company in Poland for 15 years and still work for leasing industry, now as a consultant. WOW! world is so small

This post is ranked at #198
There is an existing Maven Management LLC, a real estate company and they have maven-management in come of their page names, and in linkedIn
There is junk comment info at the top of your page.
If there were one or two incoming links with link text Maven Management, that would help.
Your logo alt tag says top_logo - why doesn't it say Maven Management logo?
Isn't Asset Management is more important?
(But you do want to be there for your name too)

I would suggest you start your title with the main keywords you want to target in your case
Maven Management - Equipmen Remarketing & Lease Management
that way if that is your home page title and your domain is maven-management.com you're spot on.
Also depends on the level of competition on that name sometimes there is a similar name that Google often will tell did you mean .... " " until your website name becomes a solid brand ... usually takes 2-3 months and you should get some(2-3) quality links to link to your domain if you want results... i know is hard but trust me that is the best way.

Hey Mark, exactly. Keep your KW target focused, and work in long tail options to gain a few positions on that level, while building up the brand site, level, content strategy etc.
I would use this targeted style on each and every page of the domain, to help with consistency as well. You can explore tougher keywords later as the domain gains some authority..
That should help you out and get the domain ranking for it's brand. The hyphenated domain will take longer tho, based on all my tests. You need to work in signals which authenticate that with the domain/brand.
Cheers!

Rob,
Thanks for all the information. I hadn't considered the hyphen issue.
I structured the title tags like this...
Equipment Remarketing & Lease Management | Maven Management
Is that the type of structure you recommend?
Thanks,
Mark

HI Mark,
Give it some more time. A few weeks isn't that long, even with the rate at which crawlers on the web. The domain is also hyphenated, which search engines take longer to index. It's a trust issue (spammers use hyphenated, or multi-hyphenated domains often), which causes.
I would suggest build a few links online to the domain (social, news, PR, article, forums and blogs) that link to the domain using the company Brand name. This will help raise a few signals to the engines about the domain, it's authenticity (about brand). More than likely, within a few days to a week after some work has been done, will begin to gain some traction.
Also - note, on the homepage of the domain, use a structured TITLE tag, and include the brand name at the tail end within the 70 char limit. Following this format for the whole domain will also help the domain gain trust to the engine - as the domain is hyphenated. My research and tests for this have always proven successful when working with these types of domains. Just takes longer to gain that trust.
Keyword - 2nd keyword - brand name.
Doing a mix of these, will help the domain start to gain traction for the brand name and populate that through the engines rankings.. shouldn't take long after that.
Because this domain is hyphenated - I would also register the domain name for 10 years in advance. This will help show the engines that it's planned to stick around for the long term.
Hope all this helps Cheers!

Snippet showing as domain name with apostrophe, instead of page title when searching for the domain name.
Hi, We have an issue with one of our websites, with the snippet dispaying differently in Google serps when searching for the domain or the website name rather than a search term. When searching for a search term, the page title shows as expected, but when searching for the site by the domain name either with or without the tld, it shows the snippet as the domain name with an apostrophe at the end. Domain is subli.co.uk Thanks in advance for any advice!

Why I am ranking for irrelevant keywords
My website is e-commerce and used to rank for all industry related keywords like buy widgets, cheap widgets, online widgets in top10. And suddenly my website was hacked and to resolve this hacking issue i have re-write all my dynamic urls into static pages after that new pages are indexed and ranking well. But after few months i have notice few changes in keywords ranking going down. But suddenly after Google Algo (EMD/Panda) update on Sept 27 i lost all my positions. And then according to Google guidelines i have worked on over optimization and low quality pages. I have removed all tones of low quality pages from SERP and simultaneously worked on url re-write. But i have notice small percent of changes in keyword positions like when Google Algo (EMD/Panda) is rolled out i lost my keyword positions from 1st page to 200 page and after working on over optimization and low quality pages the keywords are came back to 100 pages. Recently i have notice that my web pages ranking for irrelevant keywords. For example, let's say i used to rank for home page for these keywords; buy widgets, cheap widgets, online widgets but now am ranking for different inner pages say (guide pages). Can any one suggest me whats wrong..

Internal Linking Question(s)
Is it unwise to link internally to a page more than once on the homepage. I am reading that it is considered spammy. I am also reading that it passes PR twice to the internal page instead of just once... Which is it? Is there a way to stop passing PR to the "contact us" page. I watched an older video that Matt Cutts suggested a nofollow. Now I read that this strategy is a no no? Which is it? Thanks! 🙂

Panda Smacked - now it's your turn
Hi all Ok so we were smacked by Panda way back in June 2011, and are recovering from it, (though definitely still not back up to pre-Panda levels). Since then we have: 1. Taken down a load of thin content pages. 2. Increased content. 3. Tried to reduce page template complexity. However, one of the issues we have is that we make money from Adsense, so don't want to reduce the number of ads - however, we may still be falling foul of Panda because of it. So, please take a look at this sample page and tear it /us apart: http://www.compactlaw.co.uk/free-legal-information/children/children-act-orders.html Thank you. And if we can ever help the community back, please just ask.

I am trying to improve rankings for a national website going after keywords product + state/city. It is a very competitive space and I can't figure out why our competitors are ranking above us (the ever enigmatic Google). Any suggestions for improving ranking for these kind of keywords without going black hat? Thanks!

Not making a change of the 100's in crawl Diagnostic
Based on the PRO crawl Diagnostics – if we don’t make a change on 1 page, does that just affect the SEO on that one page, or does it affect the SEO on all pages of the site? E.g. If we get a “Too many on page links” for a certain page that we don’t really want to rank for – does not fixing that particlaur page affect the site as a whole? Hope I explained this ok..
