Is it possible to have an ogranic and places listing on the same SERP?
-
Have a bit of a quandary; I am working with a site that ranks fourth for their main term via a Google Places listing.
However, I can't seem to find a traditional organic listing to save my life. The only way I can do it is to search from a mobile device, or expand the search results to 100 listings. When I do that, the site appears in the top 10 organic listings.
That got me to wondering, is it possible this client's traditional organic listing is being cannabalized by their listing in Google Places?

I just ask because the tool can show exactly where your site should be showing up in the SERPs and may provide a little insight. If nothing else it saves some time.

Sure, I searched for "Spanish restaurants New Haven" (personalized search off) and there are 2 locations that have both a places listing and their organic listing and organic listing on page 1.

Hey Just Ducky,
I have a client who had an e-commerce website for years. We re-designed their site and the sales shot up insanely higher (their original site was really bad). A couple of years into working with the client, Local became big. The client has a little studio/shop that people can visit, so we did some Local SEO for them as well. Rankings have not fallen...but more important, sales have continued to increase annually.

Hey Andrea - Not using a rank tracker, I am checking the SERPs by hand

Hey Jeffrey - whats's the example you're looking at? I would love to see it

Jason : I've been wondering about the cannibalization issue too. It seems possible. Does anyone have any experience with the changes in SERPs on a strong site which started SEO for local well into the site's existence ? If so, I'd like to hear about the experience.

Hi Jason,
Almost anything is possible in the SERPs in this regard. You can have an organic listing, a Place Page, a one box, blended listings and everything but the kitchen sink.
Without seeing your listing in question, I am wondering if your keyword phrase is one that just happens to return Places-only results (what we used to refer to as the 10-pack and the 7-pack and the 3-pack). Are competitors' results local-only (places-based) or are they blended organic/local results for this search term?
How strong is the client's site? Is it well optimized?
Sorry to be answering your question with more questions but some more details might help, though you certainly don't need to highlight your client if you aren't permitted to.

I know it's possible to have an organic search result and a places page both on the first page of search results (I'm looking at an example of that right now).
As far as your cannibalization issue, I'm not so sure that's true. I haven't heard of that happening before.

Does the Rank Tracker tool show the site anywhere in the SERP for the main term?

Taking control over Google Places and Google+ Pages?
Hi we have a client who has about 40 different stores around the country. Most of the stores have their own Google+ Pages or Google Places. We want to take control of all 40 stores from a centralized location. So we can control their Google+ Pages/Google Places to improve them, and keep them uniformed with each other.How/Can can we do this? Does Google provide any way to do this? Thanks, Mark

Places listings vs other ORGANIC listings
Not sure how to search for exactly the answer I'm looking for, because frankly my question (at least to me) is hard to describe. I will try my best, though! So I have a client who has an audiology business. They are located in Denver, CO. For search, we have them listed in the PLACES portion of the local search results (with the map, phone, address, etc). We saw this as a pretty big win, because its a fairly competitive market. HOWEVER, the client feels like those listings aren't as clicked on, or aren't as prominent as say, a regular organic listing that would have a page title, and description. I am assuming that isn't correct, that if I could only have 1 listing I'd want the PLACES one, but it occurred to me that this assumption isn't really based on any data I have personally read. So my question is two-fold. 1a. Is my assumption about being in PLACES accurate, that that listing is more desirable (even if I could pick which one to get, which i don't think is realistic) and 1b. Has anyone seen or have data that backs up my assertion one way or another. Would love your thoughts! William Smith @williamsmith

Any tips for optimising for Local Search/Google Places
I have a client that used to come up on Google Places consistently for some very competitive keywords - when they ranked quite low for them through their normal website - places would see them above all the organic results in normally number 2 position - whereas they would rank between 16 - 26 normally We have optimised the site and have 'A' grade keywords for the ones we are interested in google placing for and just recently we are out of it all together, even though we have improved their optimisation for that word with SEO Someone said that their phone number on the website had to match perfectly with google places and so does their address. Is this true? Is there anything else that will help them keep their position in places ? ie. setting up a Google + page etc., Any advise would be appreciated thanks

Does google places mind listing cities on the home page
Hello, A site in our industry is listing a bunch of cities on their home page and ranking for them. Like "Our dog training facility provides services to dogs in city1,city2,city3,city4,city5,city6 state" where the cities and states are relatively in their area. It's working organically, will this confuse google places? Thanks!

Google Maps Reviews Disappearing - So Where is the best place to host them now?
I think a lot of people are having this problem. You spend years receiving great reviews on Google Places only to have the wiped out for no reason. That being the case what 3rd party sites do you all suggest that client reviews be hosted besides your website? Thoughts?

Question Regarding Multiple Google Places Pages
Hello, One of my clients has about 20 different google places pages at locations that are not real. The previous SEO company thought that would help with local search. My problem is that several great reviews have been written on each page by real customers. I want to close the places pages for locations that don't exist, but I don't want to lose the reviews. Is anyone aware of a solution for this? I have searched Google's forums and have not found anything.
