Explaination for very odd SERP
-
I am not sure this is the right place to ask that question, but I would really love to have a few explanation of why, all of a sudden, one of our competitors is starting to out rank us on very competitive terms/queries.
Up until a few weeks ago, we were #1 on a lot of queries "job etudiant <city>". (job etudiant = job student in french). These keywords are considered competitive by SEOMoz (54% according to the ranking tool).</city>
Very recently, a competing website started to systematically rank #1on each of these terms. What's really disturbing is that I don't see any obvious reason this competitor would rank above us (at least per SEOMoz's standards).
For example, on "Job etudiant Paris", their page authority is 1 (ours is 43), the have 0 domain linkin root domains (vs. 6 for us), their domain authority is 46 (55 for us) and 144 domains linking to their domain (805 for us).
I do not think we've been penalized in any way as our relative positions (compared to other websites) are unchanged. But I feel that this website is doing something obvious that we're missing. Can anyone tell us?
I have performed a complete audit in the "ranking analysis" tool, and I'm happy to share more details if anyone wants them.

Gamma,
I believe you tested woith Google.com and not Google.fr, because, with the latter, they are indeed #1.
I'll wait for a complete OSE crawl (is there a way I can trigger that?).
Now, we have a higher root domain seomoz rank and trust, we have keywords in the url, we have an A on the "on page" optimizations. And we've been #1 for years on this query... there must be something else which brought them to #1 in such a short time!
-
The competittor is studentjob.fr.
The pages for which they are ranking well are "landing" pages: like this one http://www.studentjob.fr/info/jobetudiant_paris
They provide a lot of useless information about Paris in an approximate french, which is what worries me. I assumed Google (fr) would be able to detect this kind of things quite easily.
Now, even the "link:" command on Google gives me no result for their url either, so it could be OSE, but the fact that they never even ranked on the #1st page is worrysome to me. What other tools to you suggest I look at?

Julien-
When I do a non-personalized search on Google for "Job etudiant Paris" I see the first two results for jobetudiant.net and the fourth result is for "studentjob.fr" which I assume is your competitor based on the metrics you provided.
I agree with Devin that OSE probably has not crawled the page and that is why the authority is coming up as 1.
Based on the strength of their root domain, keywords in URL, on-page optimization and content their ranking at number four make sense to me with a quick look.
-
Hey Julian,
Can you link us the competitor's website? Maybe some of the pages that are ranking in place 1? Would need to have a look at them to be able to say with any kind of certainty.
Something to bear in mind though, if Open Site Explorer says their PA and DA is 1 and they have 0 linking domains, then OSE has not crawled their site yet. If you were using OSE only then they probably have far more links than you are seeing.
-
I moved down by 1 position only.
The competition was not "intense", but they weren't easy queries either. However, this player was never on the first page. Adn it's now #1 or #2 on pretty much any query!
-
- How many positions have you moved down?
- How competitive has it been with your competition? Has it been "neck and neck"? Only out ranking them by 1 or 2 positions?

The mystery of a SERP - Your Opinion is appreciated :)
I'm looking into the result set for "vehicle graphics" with local setting set as Irvine, CA. The first result is occupied by Airmark Co and its page "http://www.airmarkco.com/vehicle-graphics.html". Doing a quick scan of this site and its page it seems that a few things are way off. Low DA: 12 Low PA: 19 Company is located out side of the local area (Irvine, ca) Offsite links coming into the site are few with only one external domain (from the company that built the site) I'm comparing it to a site we launched a few months back, one that has a similar profile and yet is nowhere to be found -- http://www.calibersi.com/page/vehicle-graphics. Would love to hear your thoughts as to why this site is outranking much stronger and relevant local sites (based on the SERP's that are coming back) ?

Competitors SERP's
One of our competitors is routinely achieving excellent SERP for brand related keywords within only a couple of months of adding the respective brand to their website. Full details are explained in the attached image to avoid the competitor being notified of this post via Google Alerts. Can anyone identify how they are achieving this and point me in the right direction? The other thing is that I was also achieving good SERPs for these and other brand related keywords but I seem to have dropped off the face of google for them, where my competitor has not and who continues to achieve the seemingly impossible. Thanks TOfVHD8

SERP rankings consistency
I have a website which is showing different serp rankings. On one computer, he's on the first page, on another, he's second page and another person from outside our office sees him ranked differently. What would account for the inconsistency in rankings?

Reason behind SERP Behavior
Greetings Mozzers, What would be the cause of the Title of the SERP to read a company name only instead of the <title>content?</p> <p>For example, if everywhere on my website, it reads SuperFun (if SuperFun is my company name). And I have a <title> of "SuperFun | Great Fun that is Super | New York"</p> <p>Let's say I then Google -> Great Fun in New York and I'm ranked 3rd. Yet the SERP reads "Super Fun" as the title.</p> <p>Any reason for this? Or ways I can further optimize this so it reads:</p> <p>1- the correct company name</p> <p>2- the <title> I specified in source code.</p> <p>Thanks for any clarficiation/advice on this matter!</p></title>

Few backlinks, no social signals and PR of 1 in the #1 SERP. How is this possible?
Hello everyone, I've been busting my head now for a bit and for the life of me I can't understand how this website is ranked #1 or #2 for a moderately competitive keyword (45% According to the Keyword Difficulty Report). Anyone has any idea how is this possible or how are they doing it? Please note page and domain authority as well... Included: reports from SEOmoz and ahrefs Thank you in advance! With the purpose of protecting mi client's identity, I've hidden keywords and domains. Keyword Difficulty Report ahrefs_comp.png SEOmoz_comp.PNG

Improving SERP rankings via strategic SEO tactics
Hi, We just build some of our new content pages on our website 1.https://www.practo.com/ray/dental-software 2.https://www.practo.com/ray/dermatology-software 3.https://www.practo.com/ray/homeopathy-software Could someone explain how do I build around a good SEO strategy to compete with others for better positions on the SERP's. I have not done anything apart from fixing proper title tags , and meta descriptions etc and of course putting down relevant fresh content onto these pages. These pages were published about 3 weeks ago - Only this url ranks on the 2nd page as of now for keywords like "dermatology software" https://www.practo.com/ray/dermatology-software The rest of the URL's do not rank anywhere till the 10th SERP too! What could be wrong and where could I have the opportunity to boost the SEO tactics since all the pages which rank above it are just not providing the right kind of product as we are and still they take up the top positions and genuine users miss out on our domain. Thanks . Looking forward to some awesome responses.

Free SEO tools appearing in SERPS for a site
Hi there, I've just taken over a site and it doesn't have a huge amount of shelfspace on the SERPs for it's brand name. Looking at the results that are there are a lot of free SEO tools that are coming up. They haven't had an SEO before so it's not coming from their side. There's such a lot of them I was wondering if anyone had come across this before - is it simply a competitor looking at the seo, could it be one of the seo analytics packages using free sites or is there anything else to be aware of. I can start knocking the sites down the SERPs but just wondering if anyone has a good solution for this. thanks Shiv

Unjustified ratings and reviews in google SERP?
I was checking Google US for some search term my company is interested for and found a thing I cannot explain well. The site Tradecarview is shown with a rating of 4.4 stars from 4209 reviews. (Please see attached image). The same rating is shown on their homepage, but I could not find much more details. (By the way: Tradecarview is a sort of directory for used car dealers to post their vehicles, something similar to Ebay or Yahoo motors.) The question is simple: is Google trusting the ratings given directly on the website? Maybe just summarizing the ratings shown here? http://www.tradecarview.com/pr/providerlist.aspx?pn=0&st=7 Or are there other sources I couldn't find that Google used to specify the rating? What do you think? Thank you in advance for your answers, Dario Pe1ft.jpg
