How to search adwords properly

If i search the word gold, Google tells me it is searched 20 million times/month.
I realize that is people searching the word gold in combination with other terms. I would like to know how to find out how many people search the word gold just by itself.
How do i do that?

A couple of things to keep in mind that no everyone who searches on a word (especially a broad single-word query) will actually click a result. They may look at the result and realize that they need to narrow it down, and not click on anything.
It's really hard to tell search intent from a one-word query like gold. Is it a fifth grader who is searching for a classroom assignment about gold? Is someone wanting to know about gold so they can buy gold jewelry? Do they want to know the current price of gold? Are they interested in investing in gold?

I see the problem here, were you using the Google Keyword Tool?
If yes then on the left there is a box headed Match Type
You will find a tick near the word Broad
You need to UNtick that and then tick Exact
I've attached an image of what it should look like, hope this helps

Google number one search result looks drastically different in firefox compared to chrome
I just noticed this today that some websites and brands look like this on firefox only, and others while still being number one result for their brand name, do not appear like this at all. also, this does not happen over chrome at all. both images provided for comparison are using the same google apps account logged in. It would be nice if someone could shed some light on as to why this happens sporadically and what does it take to be distinguished like this for your own brand if you own the identical domain.com or whatever. Google Changes Up The Search Results Page

What is the SEO term for Tree Search Engine results when we lookup for a company?
Hi Folks, I have a newbie question: When I do a Google search for: SEOmoz i get a SERP for SEOmoz in a form of a Tree, on the other hand if I search another company, let's say PAF.ca I get individual page results on google. Question is: What is the difference between the two, and how do we usually ask Google to display results of a Company name in the form of a tree or Main Category with Subpages in the SERP when looking for that company name. Convert Oganic ranking into Local Search Results
Hi, Right now, my website appears in top 5 results in organic SERPs, but I noticed that my business has gradually started going down, as my local results have been replaced by organic search results. Initially I used to rank in local results, but now, I appear in organic results so the no. of calls/day have decreased significantly. Now, I again want to appear in local search results instead of organic results. Is it Google's new interface for search result?
Hi, While searching on Google, i came across a new search result page without underlines in the titles of search snippets. Is Google experimenting with something new or there is some problem in my browser. I checked it in Firefox but at the same time when i checked it on IE, normal page was visible. Regards photostream
