How to get Social Mention from an Expert in A field you know nothing about?
-
I have read many posts on this. However, the one thing I find challenging is getting an expert to give me a social mention. In many cases they have shared something similar in the past, and in many cases they are too busy. IMO building relationships via forums is the easiest way to find experts who will mention my site. I can engage them in a thread, and eventually take it to a Personal Messages. After building a relationship I can ask for a link or a social mention or to guest post or something.
I have attempted contacting many experts via Blogs, E-mail, Facebook, Google + etc. for many different sites, IMExperince most “Experts” (people with large followings) will not give a noob (new site w/no rankings or new user w/no following) the time of day, nor a social mention. I have read many posts on engaging experts: tag them; send them flowers; like every post; make great comments. My result… bruised lips (from kissing behinds).
I work with an SEO company, and every new site we work on seems to require a unique strategy for ranking. When we work on building relationships in fields we know nothing about, the outcome is weak. Unless we use forums.
What are some strategies that work for you? what approach do you take when you have to build a relationship with someone you cant give value to?

I agree... don't try to wear the client's hat. Big mistake. It doesn't fit.
If you are contacting "experts" they will know that you know nothing before you finish speaking two sentences. Get your client to schmooze them,.

If your looking for networking opportunities for your clients then you have to also educate them about the WHOLE gamut of SEO. SEO is a lot more then on page & link building, it is networking as well you need to make sure that your client knows this. You can't network for your client.
Your client needs to provide the value, you just provide the wrapper...
You make sure your client knows when others contact him/her you will get that value wrapped up tight...
I just wrote an article for an SEO guy who is working with a photography site.
He found my through a media mention & gave me value in trade. Now if I had my own SEO partner I could assign that well written article to him to write along with a heads up that the SEO must be working because people are contacting me. Woot.
Your clients need to be the experts, you just need to get that expert out in front...

Donnie- Great post/question. Over time, what you are doing will generate results........
My grandfather use to tell me"lack of options makes for clear choices." Not a lot of options with this situation. What has worked for me in the past is doing some research in my clients business and in the "experts" area and then writing a solid article that doesn't rely so much on my expertise and experience but the research that I did.,....In the process, it allows me to quote him specifically on the subject and providing him some link juice value in my article as well as my clients (guest blog posting or something similar). After I publish the article I send him/her a copy and let him/her know that I used his/her quote and better than 50% of the time he or she emails me back with a quick note-either thanking me or giving me more information or asking for something from me. That is my opportunity to establish a mini-relationship and ask for something and I make sure that whatever it is , it is easy for he or she to do.
Hope this helps. Make it happen!

Mentions if domain slightly different to brand name
Hi, Just a question/discussion regarding mentions. I have read for the last few years that Google is able to give credit to websites who get mentioned without a link. Even a few months ago there was a big article on the Google update at the end of last year saying how mentions would become an even stronger signal than a link. My question is, if anyone knows, is there any evidence that Google and other search engines are able to give ranking credit to websites whose brand name is slightly different from the domain? Can the search engines figure out that it is the same thing? If not, then there must be a lot of brands missing out. Thanks.

Copy/pasting the article from another website and referencing correctly not to get penalized
Hi all I am looking at copy/pasting an article from another website which is very relevant to my business, is there a standard practise/best practise for SEO to do this and ensure Google doesn't think i am plagerizing content etc.. Link to source down the bottom? Using Quotations... making a page noindex or no follow etc?

Getting Google Plus Page to Appear
I've recently been making changes and updates to my company's verified local Google + page--my question is when and/or how do I configure it to appear in the search results? When I type my business into Google (Exchange Capital Management), it's not even within the results displayed. The page isn't accessible unless someone were to Google "Exchange Capital Management Google Plus." As mentioned, the page has been verified, updated, and has about 8,000+ views. Any advice or feedback is appreciated! All best, Lauren McLaughlin

Two Domains, which one should be used on Social Media platforms?
I have a client who changed from a Branded Domain (301 redirected this domain) to a Partial Match Domain, using the city in the domain for rich keyword. I take care of their Social Media platforms (i.e., Facebook, Google+, Twitter, etc.). These social networks used the Branded Domain (with the company name in the domain) for years, now the new web designer is asking that we change Username and Domain to the new Partial Match Domain, which is very "generic" not mentioning the company name. I am reluctant to change for branding mention purposes. Does anyone have any advice?

Social Media Marketing Synergy
Hi all, Just a quick question. When creating social media profiles, should there be synergy between them in imagery. For example a fashion brand that has a lot of different styles. Would you have 2 completely different looks on say Twitter and Facebook? Or would you try to find a theme and stick with it? I have looked at other fashion brands and there is a mixed bag. Some have synergy, some don't. Is this a matter of opinion or is their a best practice? I don't think there is a right answer but I'd love some opinions / articles on it if poss! Thanks

Strategies for getting more listings on first of google
We have a client who is looking to increase the number of results on page 1 of google for their brand name to essentially force some historical negative comments off page 1 of google. I am thinking of things like a twitter page, Facebook page, YouTube page etc. plus optimising their site to try and get multiple pages on page 1. Does any one have experience of doing the same sort of thing?

New Social Media Site + META Tags for User Profiles
I'm currently in the process of building a social media site and was deciding whether or not to add META descriptions/keywords for individual user profiles. After reviewing Facebook, I noticed that in the META Description field, user profile pages just inherited the values for Facebook (there were no META keywords); and, when I reviewed LinkedIn, there was no META description/keywords at all. After this investigation, I figured it might be a question best addressed to the SEO community. With that, what do you guys think? If you were building a social media site, would you have META description + META keywords for each user's profile? If so, what would be the best way to optimize the individual profiles so they rank highly within the search engines?

Best Way To Get Twitter Followers
What does the forum think the best way to get Twitter Followers is? I'm talking from the perspective from a fairly unknown brand where there's no obvious reason for someone to follow.
