HTML5 Video - Rich Snippet Markup and Quality
-
Hi guys,
We're trying to get Rich Snippets for videos on our pages. I feel comfortable-ish with getting this set up, but I have a few questions. I was wondering whether anyone had any experience with this?
- Is there any additional markup to the <video>tag to get rich snippets</video>
- How do you handle multiple qualities - i.e. HD?
- Does the ogg and mp4 file need to be included?
Any help/links to articles would be really helpful.
Thanks!

Hey Tom,
This should be a relatively simple process for you.
Just ensure you aren't hiding the <video>tag behind a load of JavaScript and then reference the .mp4 version of the file in the <content_loc> element of your video sitemap, along side a thumbnail and other required metadata -http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=80472</content_loc></video>
However, in answer to your Q's, there are a couple of things you can do to make the rich snippets surefire
- You should also add the videoObject schema mark up (http://schema.org/VideoObject) before the <video>tag <div< span="">itemprop="video" itemscope itemtype="http://schema.org/VideoObject"></div<></video>
- If you're delivering both videos through the same player, i basically wouldn't worry about it and would just mark everything up to match the default (i assume) HD settings. Otherwise, i'd mark the two different versions as different schema.org videoObject's, using videoQuality and videoFrameSize to differentiate one as HD and one as SD. In your video sitemap, you should then include both videos under the same URL.
- Google claim they don't currently crawl Theora files. While this will certainly change going forward, i would for now just include the MP4 file in the video sitemap. What you include in the actual HTML probably wont matter, but safest bet will be to have the MP4 referenced.
Hope that's useful!

there is a video site map that is generated by each of the 2 services not links below. When you make a video.
The ability for the video to display in higher resolution or HD or just regular low-resolution is determined by the quality of the video you upload. So shoot in high definition Google prefers it. I believe most are questions can easily be answered by going to the sites below however you do have to include the generated site map in the actual robot txt on your website. It will give you 56 times more power than a link not associated with the video. I believe Oculu has some fantastic prices and great SEO I use wistia personally however you only get the 1st 3 videos for free and then a little bit more expensive it gets or a lot more than oculu which most of my clients end up using because it looks good and does everything needed.

I hope have been of help let me know of but if you need any more.
Sincerely,

Great examples of how-to or other awesome videos
Hey all, I plan on making some awesome short, informational (and not overtly promotional) videos for my business. The basic idea is an expert talking and demonstrating how to perform different topics with tools and equipment (related to solar energy). We have a quality film crew and a really knowledgeable and engaging presenter, but does anybody have any awesome examples of this type of video (in any industry). Just trying to get a sense of how I want it to look and feel for maximum engagement. Thanks!

Duplicate Video within site
My questions is about duplicate video content. I haven't been able to get a clear understanding from reading the previous threads. We are hosting our videos with Vimeo and embedding into our site. I want to embed them in 2 locations - on our features page with Java (Can be seen here http://simpletexting.com/features/). I also want to embed them in our resource section so that we can link to them directly. I am wondering what the best way to do this for SEO and whether there is a chance that google will penalize us for duplicate content? If leave out the videos on the features page in the XML sitemap, does that address the problem? There are 2 threads I saw on the topic and they have somewhat conflicting opinion from the same person. http://www.seomoz.org/q/duplicate-video-content-question --Duplicate video on the same site is not a problem http://www.seomoz.org/q/duplicate-video-onsite-how-do-you-treat-this-in-sitemap -- Duplicate videos are a problem as google can recognize them as such due to audio wave patterns, video length etc. Thanks

Video Rankings and Optimization Issues
I have noticed for some pages of the site I am working on that I see the video that is posted on that page ranking a lot higher than the page itself or the page does not rank at all, just the video. I'm curious to know if these two can technically be competing for rankings and if Google sees that the page does not need to rank because it chooses to put the related video into the SERPs. Also, has anyone seen any differences in the way videos rank based on where it's hosted (youtube, wistia, etc)? I would think this is common sense not to but still unsure, is it bad practice to keep videos hosted on multiple sites (currently I am adding videos on a new host, but have not deleted the old ones on Youtube yet)?

Placing video testimonials on website vs. YouTube
We have produced a number of video guest testimonials. Any SEO considerations or other hosting it on our website (what software to use?) vs. YouTube (and just embedding it on the webpage)? Are there certain situation or circumstances when YouTube is not the best choice for placing video on a website? Thanks.
