What is the best way to organize a catergory for SEO purpsoes?
-
I work for a organic vitamin and supplement company and we are looking to rank for our categories by making more specific categories. For example we are going to try to add under the category "vitamin d" some smaller more relevant (longer-tail) categories like "spray vitamin d" and "vegan vitamin d" and try to rank instead for these searches and also searches containing words that we already have more authority from Google like "natural" or "organic".
I know that putting the product pages a level deeper will only hurt us so I want to avoid that but I'm wondering if anyone has some advice on how to organize categories for longer tail keywords that we actually have a chance to rank for.
Any help to figure this out would be greatly appreciated. Here is our page as it is currently, like I said we want to create sub categories that are effective for SEO, but also make searching and navigating the site easier.

If you want to rank for more terms, then you have to have a place to put that content so Google can make the association, right? We also believe in three levels and it's pretty justified for many business (us: printers -portable printers - brand name portable printers). That's not unusual and your audience most likely won't think much of it.
As long as the content and long tail words make sense to your site and will be of value to the user, you should be fine.

In my opinion, web architecture has a lot of importance for SEO. You must keep your site as flat as possible. I see your website has 3 levels deep for a product page. That's OK. Furthermore, your website looks very intuitive.
I'm doing SEO for a supplements store too. So I want to share with you how I've considered optimize the website:
1. Divide your keywords in categories: main, secondary, category specific, product specific and branded in my case.
2. How I distributed my keywords:
-Homepage: main + branded (company name)
-Nav Menu pages: main + secondary
-Brands pages: main/secondary + branded (brand name)
-Categories pages: category specific + main/secondary
-Products page: branded (product name) + category name/branded (brand name)
I can tell you that with this method, the vast majority of our products are positioned in the first page for their names. A big number of categories in first page too. And we have only 3 levels deep for a product page too!!!
The more levels you include, the more disperse the link juice.
If, from a business point of view, you need more categories for making internal navigation more specific, then do it. But if you only looks for SEO benefits, consider the following:
Is it necessary to lose user's experience quality to gain more traffic? What will happen with these new users when they find the new navigation structure?
Hope it helps.
Sergio

SEO For sub locations for specific services
Hey Guys, I am currently creating a website for my business that will be marketing through SEO very heavily. I Live in NYC, and i'd like to rank up for the individual locations such as Queens, Brooklyn, Long Island and eventually if my domain authority and other long hall metrics kick in NYC. What I find very tiring is targeting these locations all separately, it means I need to create the same site 4 times with completely different and unique content. Should this setup work for me, and is there a risk that Google will see 4 web design pages, and basically say even though the content is unique your ranking up for web design with a location too many times? from my understanding this is not a problem now, but is this a future risk? It also becomes extremely difficult for site navigation with about us pages, contact us pages, and other pages that either have to be duplicated or all pages shown on sidebar for navigation. Please share your thoughts with me, THANKS!!!

Best Place To Aggregate Customer Reviews?
There is a plethora of choice today for aggregating customer reviews. BBB wants to collect ratings from our customers; there a commercial options that put me in more control; yelp wants to rate me locally. Google... Given that I have some ability to steer customers toward my preferred review site, which one should I use? From an SEO perspective, have you noticed whether some these sites carry more weight or credibility than others? I realize it may depend on the type of business we are. In this case I represent a software company and their customers are USA/global, rather than local.

Permalinks best structure
Hello all, 1. I have a website under WordPress and I would like to know whici is the best permalink structure? I have seen in many post that /%postname%/ would be the best in terms of SEO although performance is not very good (But in WP latest version the speed issue has been solved?). 2. Additionally I would like to know if in terms of SEO it is better to publich the content as a page or as a post. The page publishing allows to have the path: www.example.com/page/subpage/etc... root that I understand is good for SEO? 3. How does affect for SEO a page i.e. www.example.com/page1 with links to different posts that have the permalink structure i.e: /%postname%/ I mean, if I click on the page www.example.com/page1 and then in the link to the POST inside that page and I am redirected to www.example.com/post How does affect the SEO? Thank you very much for the help, Best regards, Antonio

Is there any SEO value to Infographs?
I purchased Piktochart to make what they said were SEO friendly infographs. Hearing conflicting responses on the SEO value I figure I should ask SEO's. The program is easy and you can download as an XML. Any responses are welcome Thank You

Singular vs plural SEO
Hi everyone, OK I've been looking at the Google adwords keyword tool and it's thrown some of my On-page SEO into question (everything said here are examples, I haven't used any real life terms or figures). Lets say my page is about "Green Apples", let's say the keyword tool shows that the singular version "Green Apple" gets more searches (as an example). Should I optimize for the singular or the plural? Also lets say my title tag for that page is "Green Apples | Apples Galore UK" would Google/SEOmoz count that as an optimisation for the singular "Green Apple" or do the search engines take the title literally and don't differenciate between singular and plurals? Thanks in advance everyone! Regards, Ash

What are the differences between Google SEO and Bing SEO?
I came across this question on why the poster's rankings in Bing/Yahoo were so much lower than his rankings in Google. One of the links responded with was a presentation Rand gave about the difference in ranking elements of Google and Bing. My purpose for looking into this is to boost rankings in Bing to be more in line with my Google rankings. My takeaways from Rand's presentation were that Bing likes shorter URLs than Google and it's better to have more links from more root domains with more precise anchor text. Unfortunately this presentation was given at last year's SMX Advanced and is almost a year old. Since then Microsoft has been accused of basically scraping the Google SERPs and Google unleashed at least two maybe three rabid Pandas. Needless to say the environment has changed. So my question is for those people who are happy with how they rank in Bing: What SEO factors are you seeing make a bigger impact in Bing vs. how they impact your Google rankings?
