On Page Report Card F Grade Critical Factors
-
The website and page in question is http://www.upstrap-pro.com/ I sell non-slip camera straps and FYI for key word(s) camera strap(s) we were for a number of years on page 1 or 2. Google sold our registered trade-name _UP_strap
all over the web including Amazon. And of course we were hijacked for the keyword. Be that as it may
According to SEOMOZ there are many errors on our homepage. I am having the host look at a number of SEOMOZ's report findings.
Two critical findings that are making me nuts because I do not have the tech chops to understand why are:
1) Accessible to Engines
<dl>
<dt>Explanation</dt>
<dd>Pages that can't be crawled or indexed have no opportunity to rank in the results. Before tweaking keyword targeting or leveraging other optimization techniques, it's essential to make sure this page is accessible.</dd>
</dl>
2) Appropriate Use of Rel Canonical
<dl>
<dt>Explanation</dt>
<dd>If the canonical tag is pointing to a different URL, engines will not count this page as the reference resource and thus, it won't have an opportunity to rank. Make sure you're targeting the right page (if this isn't it, you can reset the target above) and then change the canonical tag to reference that URL</dd>
<dd>So here is the code:</dd>
<dd>```
<html xmlns="<a class="attribute-value">http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml</a>"> <head> <title>DSLR-Camera-Straps Award Winning Non~Slip Shoulder Strapstitle> <meta name="<a class="attribute-value">description</a>" content="<a class="attribute-value">An Amazing Camera Strap that will NOT slip off your shoulder! Neck straps are bad for your neck & camera slings are bulky. Easy 60 day money back return policy.</a>" /> <meta http-equiv="<a class="attribute-value">Content-type</a>" content="<a class="attribute-value">text/html;charset=UTF-8</a>" /> <base href="http://www.upstrap-pro.com/Merchant2/" /> <link type="<a class="attribute-value">text/css</a>" rel="<a class="attribute-value">stylesheet</a>" href="css/00000002/cssui.css" media="" /> <link rel="<a class="attribute-value">canonical</a>" href="http://www.upstrap-pro.com/" /></dl>

Do you have Google Webmaster Tools set up? That's the easiest way to confirm that Google is, in fact, indexing all or at least most of your URLs.
Who set up your canonicals? Can they look into it for you and make sure everything is okay?
-
There's nothing in the pasted code that shows why the crawler thinks your site is inaccessible. You should check for the existence of a robots.txt file in your sites root folder and make sure its not blocking access. You can also check the .htaccess file to see if thats blocking access.
In terms of the rel canonical, there are a couple things I'm noticing:
- It points to the root of the domain, without any index.php or anything like that. If the page report is for anything other than <a class="external" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://www.upstrap-pro.com/, for example without the www or pointing to an index page, it will be a conflict with the rel canonical tag. Even though they will load the same resource, they're technically different URLs.</a>
- You're using the base tag. I'm not familiar enough with this tag to know, but I suspect it might be messing up your canonical tag, turning it into <a class="external" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://www.upstrap-pro.com/Mercha...</a><a class="external" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://www.upstrap-pro.com/</a>
Good luck!

Ranking more than one page.
Our travel website has a number of different places listed. The layout of each place is the same as the next. On place ranks on page 1 for its keywords where as others do not. Is there a tool of some description that may identify why this is.

What's better for SEO a page per review or a page with all reviews?
Was wondering what's better for SEO. We have a platform where consumers can read and write reviews. But the question is: is it better to give one page per company with all the reviews on it? Or should we have different pages for the specific company? Example: Itunes has a company page with all reviews on the page, but not the whole review. You have to click further to view the whole review (new page), at the moment this the current situation. What if we place the whole reviews on the company page, so you don't have specific pages for the reviews? Hopefully can someone help us out. Contact me if it's not clear or you want more extended information. Kind regards

If I put 'keyword/url' combination to 'stop run weekly', will it dissapear from the summary page in the on-page grader?
The summary page of the on-page grader chooses the keyword and url combination itself. Now if I choose another combination, I would like the former to dissapear from the summary page. The only option is 'stop running weekly'. But will it disappear from the list also?

Which page to rank for a Keyword? Home Page or Deep Page?
So, we have a situation where there is one particular keyword we want to rank for. We have been up and down over the years, at our best probably position 4-5, and now at 20ish. Thats for our home page of course, which the majority of our linking is probably pointing at. We also have a sub page which is optimised for that particular service. The term is "web design brisbane".

So as you can imagine, Web Design is in itself a service and we offer others. Should we optimise our home page for it and remove the sub page?
Keep the sub page because its one our services and optimise both?
Do some kind of canonical thing?
Change our interlinking? All our competitors home pages seem to be the ones that rank, and it feels and looks better in results if its the home page, but if switching up to our sub page is better im all ears. Also if our sub page is somehow hurting or leaking SEO from the home page, id like to know as well. Would prefer to not have to provide a link, due to competition but if someone wants to know we can always PM.0 -
Deleted pages still registering as 404 pages.
I have a an all html site that I can only work on through the ftp. The previous marketing company ran a script that built thousands of location landing pages, but all they did was change the tags and headers and the keywords in the pages, other than that they are all duplicate pages. I removed them, but Google is reading them as 404 pages. How do I tell Google those pages don't exist? or do I just need to let the bots crawl it a few times and it will see that eventually?

On-Page Report Card refresh problem
I have noticed that on the On-Page Report Card, refresh does not work at all. Namely, when I make a change after receiving a suggestion, it does not change at all. I remember that option worked almost instantly before which helped me make an optimized page quickly. Also, I have seen that meta tags are not desirable and when I want to remove them, I have quotation marks left instead of meta keywords and an error reported. These are the most important issues for now, especially the refreshing issue since I tried deleting data from cash memory and all the other available options such as changing the browser etc. I have also tried deleting key words and repeating the grading on on-page report card but had no results. Exiting SEOmoz and re-entering also gave no results. Kasa

I'm running a campaign report within SEOmoz & am getting 9 pages that appear on this report. They all happen to be our author pages www.example.com//author/admin We have multiple authors. Is there a proper way that I should take care of this? Also as a side note, I'm using Yoast Wordpress SEO plugin, is there a setting on their I should change that will fix this issue? Or is it an issue at all? Thanks, BJ
