Link Age - Ranking Signal
-
Is the age of a link a ranking signal?
-
It's worth considering it anyway.
-
How would you focus on it anyway? Just sit and wait.
-
Good point.
-
I agree "with age comes more links to page". I would also add that the page will have undergone more testing with time and therefore relevance becomes more clear.
-
Don't worry about it. As Rand says, if it is a ranking signal, it's tiny. Why waste time/energy focusing on that when you could focus on the things that matter, like content and linking!
-
Not the link itself, but the page that this link is on might get more important as they grow older as they obtain more links. So it is not the age, but rather that with age comes more links to that page (hopefully) and therefore that page gives out more link juice to your page.
I hope that helps. Watch that WBF that Roger linked to.

Rand talks about this one in a Whiteboard Friday: (skip to 5:50)

The short answer answer is that it could be a signal. I would venture that, if it is a signal, it isn't a very big one. Hope that helps.

Are these links helping
Hi, We have had a few new links for a client and we are hoping that we can get some feedback on whether these have any link juice. We dont want to waste our time with links that dont benefit the website. Reddit LInks
Are Reddit links worthwhile? I hear they are sometimes follow and sometimes not follow. Also what about links verses self links? I'm pretty handy with reddit so I can probably make content that would actually be upvoted a lot. Let me know, thanks.

Links to deep pages good for Homepage ranking?
Hello Moz community. My question today is: if I got great backlinks with anchor text "abc" coming to a deep resource page in my site, will these links help my homepage rank for keyword "xyz"? In other words, are all links (regarless of anchor text) coming to a site helpful for the homepage to rank for its main keyword? Thanks.

Link text
Can anyone give me any advise regarding anchor text in back links on external sites. I have about 8 bloggers reviewing our products on their sites. When they link to our site, they either use the words of our company name or something like “click here” as the words in the link. There are a few key words that we are wanting to improve for so should those words be made as the live link on their site?

Competitors with thousands of links
Looking at my competitors link results on OSE some of them have 30,000 links to their websites. They are top rank on google whereas I am page 2. I know its quality over quantity but am I ever going to compete with that number of links? Is it worth getting some low value links just to bump up numbers while continuing getting good links? thanks for any advice!
