Google Webmaster Tools considers the www and non-www versions of your website as two completely different sites, Hampig.
You're doing the correct thing by setting your preferred domain, but in order to complete the process, you're going to need to go through the same steps to verify the non-www version that you already did for the www version.
I know it sounds strange, but you need to verify both versions of the address as two seperate sites in Webmaster Tools.
To verify the second version, just log into Webmaster Tools and on the main page you'll see a big red button on the top right for Add a Site.
After you've clicked that button, go ahead and set up another site, this time using the non-www version of your address. You'll go through the same steps you did the first time, and you'll be given a new verification code. (You can choose either a file that gets uploaded to your website, a code that gets added to your page header, or a code that gets added to your DNS records)
The absolute easiest way to verify the new site at this point though (as long as you have Google Analytics installed on the website) is to tell Webmaster Tools to check the Analytics code for proof you own the website.
Once you've verified the second version of the website, you can go back and set the preferred domain as you originally intended. Then go into the other version and tell it to set the www version as primary as well (i.e. make sure both Webmaster Tools site specify the same preferred domain.)
Once you've done this, you won't need to use the second Webmaster Tools site (the non-www version) for anything. All your useful data will be in the original site you set up for the www version of your website. The second version can just sit in Webmaster Tools unused, but there to manage the Preferred Domain setting.
Hope that makes sense?
Paul

Can I safely asume that links between subsites on a subdirectories based multisite will be treated as internal links within a single site by Google?
I am building a multisite network based in subdirectories (of the mainsite.com/site1 kind) where the main site is like a company site, and subsites are focused on brands or projects of that company. There will be links back and forth from the main site and the subsites, as if subsites were just categories or pages within the main site (they are hosted in subfolders of the main domain, after all). Now, Google's John Mueller has said: <<as far="" as="" their="" url="" structure="" is concerned,="" subdirectories="" are="" no="" different="" from="" pages="" and="" subpages="" on="" your="" main="" site.="" google="" will="" do="" its="" best="" to="" identify="" where="" sites="" separate="" using="" but="" the="" is="" same="" for="" a="" single="" site,="" you="" should="" assume="" that="" seo="" purposes,="" network="" be="" treated="" one="">></as> This sounds fine to me, except for the part "Google will do its best to identify where sites are separate", because then, if Google establishes that my multisite structure is actually a collection of different sites, links between subsites and mainsite would be considered backlinks between my own sites, which could be therefore considered a link wheel, that is, a kind of linking structure Google doesn't like. How can I make sure that Google understand my multisite as a unique site? P.S. - The reason I chose this multisite structure, instead of hosting brands in categories of the main site, is that if I use the subdirectories based multisite feature I will be able to map a TLD domain to any of my brands (subsites) whenever I'd choose to give that brand a more distinct profile, as if it really was a different website.

Tips on finding the right Senior Designer / Design Director
Hello Everyone, I manage a fairly large educational website that we are looking to completely redesign to improve the overall site user experience and usability. In the past I, a non-designer, business person, would just roughly draw how I thought the site should look and our developer (who is good, but not a web designer) would just try his best to make everything look profession. Over the years, it has become painfully obvious that we need to invest in more design expertise and move towards a modern, smartly designed website. So my question: Where are the best places to find good freelance designers? I have of course conducted web searches, browsed elance, and asked my network for referrals. However, I am finding that most of the really good ones, ones who have to ability to take charge and lead us through this entire process, and who have at least a basic understanding of SEO principles, work for larger integrated development shops who also expect their people to develop the new site as well. We already have a developer and are primarily looking for the design expertise. Does anyone in the Moz community have any suggestions or even referrals? Thanks! Eric

Redirects Not Working / Issue with Duplicate Page Titles
Hi all We are being penalised on Webmaster Tools and Crawl Diagnostics for duplicate page titles and I'm not sure how to fix it.We recently switched from HTTP to HTTPS, but when we first switched over, we accidentally set a permanent redirect from HTTPS to HTTP for a week or so(!).We now have a permanent redirect going the other way, HTTP to HTTPS, and we also have canonical tags in place to redirect to HTTPS.Unfortunately, it seems that because of this short time with the permanent redirect the wrong way round, Google is confused as sees our http and https sites as duplicate content. Is there any way to get Google to recognise this new (correct) permanent redirect and completely forget the old (incorrect) one?Any ideas welcome!

Any alternative techniques to display tabbed content without using Javascript / JSON and be SEO Friendly?
John Mueller's input in the EGWMH hangout suggests that Google MAY ignore expandable content served by Javascript. Are there any alternative techniques to display tabbed content without using Javascript / JSON and be SEO Friendly? I do however view these as good for website interactivity and UX - and see many examples of websites performing well and ranking highly whilst using these techniques - are there any Google friendly ways to serve content on a page so that search bots can recognise and choose to crawl / consume the content as legitimate fodder?

Advice needed: Google crawling for single page applicartions with java script
Hi Moz community,we have a single page application (enjoywishlist.com) with a lot of content in java script light boxes. There is a lot of valuable content embedded but google can not crawl the content and we can missing out on some opportunities as a result. I was wondering if someone was able to solve a similar issue (besides moving the content from the java script to the HTML body). There appears to be a few services sprouting up to handle single page applications and crawling in google.http://getseojs.com/https://prerender.io/Did anyone use these services? Some feedback would be much appreciated!ThanksAndreas
