How do I get our company press release more traffic?
-
We current gained a Major University as a client, for private cable operations.
The boss would like a press release he made distributed. How would any of you go about this?
Paid and Non paid services please. ; )
Thanks all!

Wow! Thanks guys! These are all extremely helpful. I think I will start with a sprinkle of the @EGOL meanwhile running with the @Takeshi, and finishing with some of the @Francisco method!
Awesome feed back guys, I am so glad I can fall back on my SEO Mozer Clan!

hmmm... I think that there is a very fine line between announcing good news, thumping your chest until you cough and spamming everyone in your industry.
Lots of people send these types of announcements out to everyone in their industry and anyone anywhere who has ever had a contact with their business. Your boss might like this but it will really make him look like a spammer. Ninety-nine percent of these people don't give a hoot.
So, I would ask the boss who he really wants to reach and what message he wants conveyed to them.
Press releases are valuable when they reach a few of the very right people... and they are spam to just about everyone else. So instead of thinking "more traffic", think about "reaching the right people with the right message".
Know what you are trying to shoot and aim before firing.

If it's for a major university, then they will definitely have a university newspaper. When I was at UCLA, there was a whole department of journalist there. If I were you, I would hit them up and get a nice back link.

PRWeb is the best paid press release service I've used, and you can get a decent PR link out of it
If you're actually looking to get news coverage, go to the websites for all your local newspapers, and look for their e-mail contact for tip submissions. Write a customized press release tailored to them, and try to come up with an interesting angle that might get them to cover your story. The easier you can make it for the journalists, the more likely they'll bother to cover you.

I can get hundreds of natural links from real estate agent sites, but should I?
I have a website that generate leads for real estate agents nationwide. I have an auto email that sends out the referral agreement and in the email I ask them to place a link to our website on their site somewhere to be a part of the program. I can get as many as 10-15 links in a few hours in every major city in the U.S. Most realtor websites have websites that are new, or haven't posted blogs and have a Moz domain score of 1 and trust score of 1. I have been thinking of only selecting websites with descent Moz rankings instead of having all agents link to me, even ones with a low moz score. Is it a bad idea to get a bunch of links from legitimate websites that have low Moz scores?

Am I getting traction, spinning my wheels, or just spinning in circles?
My story: recently "promoted" to creating our marketing department and efforts despite lack of expertise; new to SEO as a daily/weekly task; focusing a lot of effort polishing current webpage (redesigned last year); Hit most of the low hanging fruit in "Beginners Guide"; asked enough questions to know that now I need to focus on content at this point. My conundrum: There is **so **much information out there about SEO, that keeping focus on the tasks at hand is incredibly difficult. KPIs, Trends, Research everything I read serves to derail me from what might be my most critical tasks (content creation?) SEO is like my business (solar), you need to be as site specific in your design and install as possible, but only generalized information is available to the novice. My questions for you experienced SEOs: how do you keep focus? How do know that the project you're focusing on is the right one? Do y'all know of a resource for consultation/advising to look at my initial efforts so someone can help me navigate and gain perspective? I'm not looking for someone to solve my problems (although that would be nice), but more of a "grade" (ie-less of this, more of that, nice work here, try again over there) Thanks folks, any and all help is appreciated.

Any research on a baseline traffic loss due to SERP crowding?
Hello all. I work with a number of ecommerce sites and in trying to gauge year over year performance I'm struggling to properly account for some of the organic shrinkage in SERPs. Many people have discussed the topic of SERPs with 6 & 7 results and the growing real estate being taken up by paid results. What I want to know is if anyone out there has done some large scale number crunching to find some averages on lowered CTR or traffic loss so I can better understand my numbers. Anyone have any input here?

Does Google still have a standard search result? How can I get it?
I have heard a lot from the experts that there are no "Standard" Google search results anymore. They said that most of the SERP's of Google that show up are customized/tailored for each individuals even if they are not logged-in using their Google Custom Search. My questions are, Is there still a way to retrieve the standard Google search result? How? Are these scripts will be helpful when searching on Google? *webhp?

Recommend a Freelancer or Company
Hi, Can anyone recommend a freelance SEO consultant or company in the UK, who have proven results and don't cost a fortune? We deal with very small businesses, who want to get some traction on the search engines, but can't afford much per month. Or are the days of $250 a month contracts gone, because of the work involved now? Any help appreciated.
