How does WordPress 3.5.1 impact site rankings?
-
We have a user interested in having a WordPress 3.5.1 blog on their own existing, robust site. There is a blog module available in the CMS but the user feels more familiar with WordPress.
It will be set up at the root as a subdirectory. Based on the URL structure, Google should see the WordPress blog and the user's website as the same website. (www.website.com/wordpress). There will not be a 301 needed.
Does using the Wordpress module impact rankings? We've understood that Google doesn't care for Wordpress because 99% of spammers use it... is that only if it is hosted on WordPress.com?
Also, are there any other reasons that our user should use/avoid WordPress?

Wordpress is a great platform. We use the Yoast SEO plugin - among others. We recently added W3 total cache and integrated it with MaxCDN - site loads instantly.

I have wordpress blogs on a couple of my sites (installed in a folder) and the results have been great.
If you optimize them properly your pages will rank just as well as static pages. You can also use feeds to distribute your posts and google will discover your pages and rank them immediately. Posts are often indexed, ranking and pulling traffic within minutes if you have a strong site.
I agree with placing wordpress in a directory but would avoid using /blog/ or /wordpress/ simply because that might make you a slightly easier target for some robots.
Go to this page and you will see that CNN, NBC, CBS, TechCrunch and other primo sites are using wordpress. If it was crap they would not be using it.

Having the site as the subfolder is good.
Any impact on rankings? What rankings are you referring to though?
Just because spammers use WP, Google doesn't view everyone using WP as spammers.
WP.org and WP.com are for different types of users and there are successful WP.com sites as well as WP.org and vice versa for spammers.
WP overall is a great CMS for blogging and managing content and I would recommend using them.
Just create awesome content, share, and create buzz, you will rank well.

Wordpress is just a tool, google only effects sites which has spammy content, links etc... I have had sites increase page rank instantly when swapping from a static html site.
My site is HTML but my Blog/news section is in Wordpress I set the sub directory as Blog. As soon as I can spare some time my site will be migrated to Wordpress.
Spammers only use wordpress as its simple and easy to use.
use Wordpress it's ace!

Sites Like Outbrain that are local?
So I used Outbrain and I liked it, but I think it would be more valuable if you could target the state where your client is. Outbrain targets the entire county, which might not be valuable for a local client. I am wondering if there are any other sites like Outbrain that allow you to target locally?

Is it Possible for an Internal Page to Rank for Various Terms Based ONLY on Blogging Anchor Text?
Hi everyone, Our company provides about 6 different services, each with a specific page on our website: 1. Accept ACH Payments (/accept_ach_payments.html) 2. Client Management & Billing Software (/customer_management.html) 3. Small Business Merchant Accounts (/small_business_merchant_account.html) etc etc Now, here's the question. One of our blogging strategies is to write content about how our online platform can help various types of businesses manage and grow their business. "5 Ways Fitness Business Can...." "How Law Firms Can Benefit...." etc In these blog posts, we don't specify our product, but we do link back into one of those main service pages, so I might link fitness management software to the Client Management & Billing Software (/customer_management.html) page as well as legal billing software to the same client management page Since there are so many different companies that could use our software, we don't want to include them on the Cl_i_ent Management & Billing Software page. That page is just about the benefits of the system and how it works as a great CRM. So....to make a long question short, are we able to rank the Client Management page for "fitness management software" and "legal billing software" if we don't use those terms on the "client management" page itself, and only use it as the anchor text when linking? Instead of making a separate page about how we can be used as a fitness management platform, we'd like our "client management" page to rank for various terms like "fitness management software" "legal billing software" "online church donation software" etc BUT, we don't want to bloat the client management page will all those other topics and content. Hope that makes sense, Patrick

Wordpress Duplicate Pages/ URL's - Help !
Hi guys, I have been running SEOMoz for just over a month and slowly cleaning up one of my Wordpress Blogs. While going through the crawl reports I have noticed that I have duplicate pages showing on the crawl. For example, the main post would be; www.xxxxx.com/blog/post-title Then I see another URL which would be; **www.xxxx.com/blog/page/59 ** When I click on either URL it goes back to the actual post title URL. What's with these page URL's ? Isn't these two URL's showing duplicate content to the search engines ? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Opinions for the Long URL strings in WordPress Blogs.
We use Wordpress for our agency Blogs. The URL's are very long and the Moz does not like the long URL's. Should we use the stubby, short Wordpress URL's for each blog post? Is there a "Best Practice" for how one should use the Wordpress URL string?

Site structure question
I'm doing a site that will have many many pages.
Content Development | | OxzenMedia
Now I have heard that you get more seo value if its a lower tear so for example: site.com/product rather than site.com/brand/subbrand/product Is this correct? Should I structure my site like this? site.com/product
site.com/brand points to site.com/product (so all products are on the sub root.) Does that make sense?0 -
