Posting a video on your site and also on youtube
-
Hi,
Quick question.
I have a content page which contains a youtube embedded video. I want to rank that page for a specific keyword phrases on google.
I also want to rank the video youtube url aswell for the exact same specific keywords.
Does anyone from experience know if this would be considered duplicate content (same video) or work?
Same video on both URLs but the video on my site has additional valuable content surrounding the video.
Regards,
Jerry

Hi Jerry,
What you suggest is just about achievable, but it's not very predictable and I wouldn't recommend it.
Firstly, It's quite hard to get rich snippets for embedded YouTube videos - and secondly, if you want the YouTube video to rank again, this video will almost certainly outrank you unless you have an incredibly strong site - as such, you can end up driving traffic that you could have driven to your own site to YouTube - and from there it is extremely hard to drive referrals.
Secondly, While Google may choose to rank both pages, they often will just preference one of the videos - likely the YouTube.com version - which means your site won't rank at all.
Thirdly - The kind of videos that you should be aiming to get your site ranking for, normally conversion related videos - are not the type of content that typically provide any value on YouTube, so you should really consider who the target audience are for your content and whether they're people on your site or people finding the content via YouTube.
However, all this aside, If you really do want to get both a YouTube listing and your own site ranking - then I recommend showing Google that it's two different videos both relevant to the keyword - by self hosting the content on your own site (or using a paid third party platform) and submitting a video sitemap - then uploading the video to YouTube
However, I want to make absolutely clear that I don't really recommend the above solution from a strategic perspective, as the kind of content you should want your site to rank for is almost never also appropriate to put on YouTube.
Thanks,
Phil.

Hi Jerry,
If you want video to rank on your site you need a video sitemap
No it would not be considered duplicate content (same video)
(Do NOT" Make sure build some links to your video URL on YouTube as well.")
Why you would only be making links for youtube.com not your domain.
You need to have links point to the video on your website or your webpage
I would keep you youtube video on youtube & use wistia to have the same video on your site with a sitemap at no cost.
Why Wistia? It is free for the frist three videos read in link

You can rank both, no problem. You can have both the video and the page on your website ranking for the same keyword together. Make sure build some links to your video URL on YouTube as well.

why google never shows Coursera or Udemy videos in the SERP?
I work for a website pretty much like Coursera, and google never brings up our videos in the SERP. It has been indexed and Search Console URL Inspection tool identifies it as a video object. is it a technical issue or just google doesn't like to show us in the SERP? Is there any way to fix this?

Great examples of how-to or other awesome videos
Hey all, I plan on making some awesome short, informational (and not overtly promotional) videos for my business. The basic idea is an expert talking and demonstrating how to perform different topics with tools and equipment (related to solar energy). We have a quality film crew and a really knowledgeable and engaging presenter, but does anybody have any awesome examples of this type of video (in any industry). Just trying to get a sense of how I want it to look and feel for maximum engagement. Thanks!

Do on-page video transcripts dilute keyword targeting?
We're considering putting video transcripts in collapsable div tags or using jquery on our actual video page. Videos range from 3 minutes to 12 minutes. For some of the longer videos, is there a chance that having the transcript on-page will dilute the value of our targeted keywords? Or is it the opposite? We just want to make sure we're properly optimizing for SEO/search visibility and not over-optimizing for the sake of it.

Video Embeding
I would like to ask if somebody know what is the best way to embed video on home page. I read that google does not read i frame. Also it is a problem if i have featured video on home page with link to post where is again the same video? Also it is not a problem if I plan to be changing the videos on the home page in period of the time 1-2months? Also, people can embed video from there, is this not a problem? Thank you for any advice

Video SEO: Should I add Video Transcriptions to You Tube Videos Even with Google CC?
So, You Tube allows plenty of room from descriptions. I think 5,000 characters. Google does a poor Closed Caption of our audio. Should I also be adding accurate transcriptions to the description field in YouTube to help my Video SEO. What are the pro's cons and is it worth doing?

Video Rankings and Optimization Issues
I have noticed for some pages of the site I am working on that I see the video that is posted on that page ranking a lot higher than the page itself or the page does not rank at all, just the video. I'm curious to know if these two can technically be competing for rankings and if Google sees that the page does not need to rank because it chooses to put the related video into the SERPs. Also, has anyone seen any differences in the way videos rank based on where it's hosted (youtube, wistia, etc)? I would think this is common sense not to but still unsure, is it bad practice to keep videos hosted on multiple sites (currently I am adding videos on a new host, but have not deleted the old ones on Youtube yet)?

Anybody knows of agencies who produce/optimize/market video content?
Hi everyone. Hope someone can help me hook up with a video content provider. Need one to produce optimized video content and market it, too. Did a Google search and found some. But I trust a crowd-sourced answer so I try here at SEOMoz. Anybody?
