Moz Rank Moz Trust and Authority higher than my competitor but still getting outranked
-
Hi There,
I'm new to SeoMoz but ive been using it for the past month and I've been using the tools to try to optimize my site but for some reason even though my metrics are showing that my rank and authority are rising past my competitor they still rank higher in the searches.
my website is the site on the far left with the domain authority @27. the competitor that keeps outranking me is the third from the left with a domain authority of 12. If anyone can advise as to why I'm being outranked that would be very helpful. I'm stumped here. Thanks guys!

You have a lot more backlinks, but most of them don't look very valuable. Here are a couple of examples of very low-quality backlinks that appear to be spam:
http://data.cses.tc.edu.tw/lifetype/trackbacks/421/4885
http://article-club.info/A-Wonderful-Globe-Of-Desktop-Wallpapers-And-Backgrounds.htmFor the phrases I pointed out, are you a small team, or do you have over 100 people? Many would consider over 100 people to not be a small team.
I still stand by my first idea. Have someone that speaks English at a native level review your website, and look at Google's questions to ask about quality. The website has several things that would make many people not want to buy from you, even if it ranked first in the search engines.

Hi,
Thanks for your response. Still I want to know some idea. What do you mean by this line
Review your website with fresh eyes. One section of the home page states "We are a small, dynamic and highly experienced internet marketing comp" and another "Large team around 100 in team".
is it bad English or something like that.
one more question. did you see There are many duplicate content in google search for http://www.extorfx.com/web-services/ this url. But still they are ranking well. May be few duplicate page but I don't think it will be major fact. yes There are few broken page I know it. is only that issue my site traffic down if yes I will try in both way and see how its work.
My all other content almost good in blog.
actually I want to know some idea how google or facebook work. There are thousand of people post even duplicate content. facebook never delete that page or content still they are top all the time. Just research it. I already have more than 5-8 keyword ranking in google not first page. With very good page index by Google. But my competitor only have 56 page. how its possible their traffic 85% from search engine. Something definitely issue. I will start a new tread.
also you see if my site very bad. How its possible moz ranking good. like : Page authority : 45, DMoz Rank : 4.48 DMoz trust : 4.43 .
if we search in Google for that page : http://www.extorfx.com/web-services/
with text : Your website is where your business resides — it’s like the headquarter of an offline company
I see many Different domain with duplicate content just come up in rank. Many person also do it. So Like to some idea how facebook or google works with duplicate or whatever content.
Give me few more idea. Already Check all of my competitor quality. still don't find any issue.

This is an older thread, so you may not get too many responses, and may want to start your own thread.
I'd first have someone with native-level English skills look at the website and suggest improvements, as some of the wording there doesn't make sense. I'd also have them answer the questions that Google presents at http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2011/05/more-guidance-on-building-high-quality.html regarding what it considers is a high quality site.
I'd also lose the ads that are at the very top. Many are for other SEO services. Why do you want to send people off to other tools?
Review your website with fresh eyes. One section of the home page states "We are a small, dynamic and highly experienced internet marketing comp" and another "Large team around 100 in team".
Some of your pages are broken, such as http://www.extorfx.com/package/link-building-package/.
Make sure that you have original content. http://www.extorfx.com/web-services/ has content that is on many other sites on the web.
For right now, I'd ignore your competitors, and ignore your scores, and focus on making sure that your website has high-quality, original content that serves the needs of your potential customers.

My question also same like you. no one don't know the answer actually even Competitor mrfaruque.com Domain authority 15. how its possible their traffic 10k a month. where my site www.extorfx.com 45. how its possible my traffic 2 low. non of the metrics are works for me. If anyone no the answer thats helpful. note : Their on page optimization worst than my site.

Hi Guys,
Thanks so much for the responses!
I'm going to have to take a closer look at where their links are coming from because they don't seem to do much social sharing and the links to their website seem a bit dubious.
I did some digging into the links to their website and when i group them by domain they only seem to have one external link and it seems to be a Portuguese web design firm. I've attached screencaps of the link explorer for their page and mine if anyone could advise as whats going on that would be much appreciated. The first grouping on the competitor metrics image is the portuguese site and the second grouping is the competitors own domain.
again my apologies if my lack of experience is making for stupid questions.
Thanks again for the help!

Exactly what Bryan said! There are hundreds of ranking factors. I actually wrote about this type of Q&A question here:
http://www.seomoz.org/blog/going-beyond-moz-metrics-to-answer-why-is-this-site-outranking-me
Start there and take a look beyond the obvious. How related are their links? Are there differences in social? Site structure? Are they using smart landing pages to direct traffic and get more pages per visit?
-
Hi Samuel, There are about 200 factors that rank sites.
The competition chart shows you overall analytics, but you need a more in depth audit in order to see why someone is really outranking your site.
Search ensines look at: Links, social media, relevancy, natural progressions, and easy crawlability. They are also looking for bad signals: over optimization and unnaturally linking.
We look to see what our competition is doing just to create ideas to put into play, or to create a better piece of content that they have written about.
-
Wait, I miss read your question and didn't go far enough to the right. Please ignore the trust/rank statement.
However, this still doesn't reflect on the specific keyword optimization. Many other things are at play there.
-
Two things jump out -
First, they have far higher authority and higher trust which is worth more than rank these days.
Second, this says nothing about the optimization of specific terms. I can out rank a 100Mt/Mr site on terms they don't use.
Start with a comparison of where they get their links for the terms in question then see about earning them yourself. I'm guessing they have a couple really good links from other trusted sites.

What's a good way to get started with competitive research?
Hi all, SEO noob here. I'm doing an audit for a firm that makes specialized accounting software. It's a relatively new firm, with a barebones website. My client has identified three direct business competitors. In addition, I see indirect competitors (such as product reviews) on the SERP for a relevant keyword phrase. I want to provide actionable advice for my client. What information should I present? I'd like to help my client understand: Why my client's competitors are outperforming them on the SERPs What my client needs to do to overtake their competitors What information should I present to my client? Thanks, all.

Competitor using our product descriptions
Hi, We have a competitor (with a higher DA) using some content from our product pages word for word on a few of their product pages. It's only a couple paragraphs per product page (including the main product description), not the entirety of the content on the page. It also appears they have scraped some content from another authoritative competitor (and even left their brand name mentioned on it!) I've read mixed thoughts on whether plagiarized content will harm the original site, but am concerned since it is an authoritative site. Should I be concerned since it's only parts of our product page? Thank you all!

Possible google sandbox issue? Organically ranking page 1 for our number 1 keyword, but page 5 sometimes 6 on google?
What are some things I can look into to figure out why google is ranking us on page 5 sometimes page 6, with some slight rank boosts to rank 36 from 48 but then falls right back. While Yahoo and Bing rank us page 1 consistently, without these big drops back. I use google search ( webmaster tools ) daily, fix 404s and make sure to fetch new content I create. Our site is within the Sandbox issue time frame, google 1st indexed the site about a year and a half ago, the site has been through various SEO service checks, and has had those issues fixed ( some bigcommerce won't allow, such as full sitewide ssl and a few other small factors ) but all the big stuff was handled or will be 100% handled after this redesign is complete. But just still seems we're stuck in the google hole again. We do use adwords, but no clear signs as to why we'd suffer such hardships with google ranking, only thing we don't have optimized in terms of on page optimization from moz is keyword in url, of which will be changing within the next month or two, as we're rolling our a new redesign with SEO 100% at the forefront, nice url paths, with keywords in their url, much more responsive site that uses less resources. But before we release this redesign, I'd like to find out what toe we stubbed of google's to give us such a ranking blackeye... We don't have that many backlinks, and I know these are a huge factor, however, building quality backlinks it's harder than walking on water at time and on the same level as spinning hay into gold. Any ideas community...

Moz Rank /Moz Trust Tips and Tricks
I've been working on the following website (www.pleasantparkkennels.com) for about 2 years now for SEO and been able to place the site for many keywords. At times some competitors seem to come into the mix and 'just get lucky' in their rankings regardless of all the work I've done ... it seems they've implemented no SEO strategies whatsoever and yet them sometimes rank better. Upon comparing link metrics with these competitors, I seem to be doing well in most criteria but Moz Rank and Moz Trust always seems to be a category I fall short in.

How can I find out the exact match visitors for a competitor's website?
Hi, I'm trying to find a way of finding out the estimated number of exact match visitors that a competitor's website has got. I know that SEO agencies can find this out, and there must be a way of doing this for myself. Thanks

I must be tripping. How is this site ranking for the term "SEO Company"??????
When I go to Google non-custom search results and search the term: seo company The website "greencowseo.com" is ranked 3rd. OpenSiteSearch shows nothing. And get this... the domain was registered 14 days ago by somebody in Egypt. Do I need to quit my SEO Moz membership and hire this guy? 🙂

Why does my site get sandboxed but this one doesn't?
I'm currently working on an entire website redesign and restructuring. My current website is extremely spammy. I really worked on it before I knew much about SEO. Now that I have a better foundation I have been remaking my site to get rid of duplicate content and to have a much better UX. With this said, I still depend on the current site to bring in my income while I'm working on getting my new site up. Google seems to constantly kick me out for about a month at a time and then let me back in. The few other times I thought it was because the new site I have been working on is on a different domain and was exactly the same for a while (I don't want google to find this new domain it's just for testing purposes). So I removed the new domain from google and in a couple weeks my main site was back in. Problem is yesterday google hit me again. I'm out of google for all my search terms. Before I was ranking on the first page for just about every "keyword + city" phrase I was trying to rank for. I can find plenty of reasons why google would give me problems with my current site. For example I have TONS of duplicate pages with just the keyword/city changed. Pretty spammy. I did buy about 5 links a year ago or so but they are pretty nothing sites. My question is if google's going to ban me why don't they just do it? They keep taking me out and putting me back in. No messages in webmaster tools. My domain is below: http://yourmusiclessons.com Also when I just started out I got the idea of "keyword + city" from a competitor that ranks for EVERYTHING which is also found below: http://www.musikalessons.com All of the links I bought were the same links the above site bought. I tried buying a link from classical.net which has a high page rank and links to musikalessons.com on each page of their site. As soon as google found the links, I was kicked out. I had them remove it. My question is musika has basically the same "spammyness" as me just on a much larger scale and yet they never seem to be kicked out of google and still rank high. I've thought about reporting musika, but I'm afraid Google will ban me as well because my site is just as bad. Again I'm working all day on fixing my site and doing a 180, it's just taking a long time and I can't launch quite yet. I live off the income from my current site though, so it's very disheartening when this happens. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Wondering why my site ranks well for one page and not another.
Customers mainly find our site from searching very specific part numbers on google. My site is launch3telecom.com. Take for example these two parts:
Competitive Research | | launch3
MT500A-81015 MR050-81045 Search only those parts in google - we rank 3rd for one of them and don't rank at all for another. Is there any way to check backlinks pointing to those pages? We even show up before big sites like ebay and such on one of them. Can anyone help me understand this?0
