Beyond Guest Blogging, What Else Works Now?
-
Given the importance of editorial links & co-citation, beyond guest blogging what other high-value link-building tactics should I be looking at to boost organic search placings?
Specifically, in Apr 2013 is there still mileage in directories (such as these on the SEOMoz list) or on this GetListed list; or in placing content on social sites such as Squidoo?
-
Use those General Directories if they include your a section for your industry.
Squidoo - turned to crap because of article marketers re-spinning content. Got HAMMERED by Google. I'm not putting my clients in Squidoo.
-
Hi Francisco
Thank you.SEOMOZ List - yes, but only related ones. Quite a few on the SEOMoz list are "general" directories. What's the deal with those? Avoid?
Squidoo - NO
This was my gut feeling as well. But why "no", given that it is a high authority site? -
SEOMOZ List - yes, but only related ones
GetListed - Yes
Squidoo - NO
-
Thank you all for your responses.
However, my key question still hasn't been answered head-on:
Specifically, in Apr 2013 is there still mileage in directories (such as these on the SEOMoz list) or on this GetListed list; or in placing content on social sites such as Squidoo? -
I forgot to mention, try to get your links on pages, not just blog posts.
Think creatively on why someone should give you a link on one of their landing pages. I normally give links to gov't sites and the BBB. Why should someone like me link to you on one of my landing pages? How are you going to make my life easier?
Maybe you can make a widget that is only for a certain company that has a back link at the bottom of the widget.

Guest Blogging is a good idea but I guess there are other tactics for link building that you can use... which includes link sleuthing and grabbing links through images....
Inm y opinion directories still ahve a bit of a mileage but if you are tight with budget i would prefer spend more on organic and natural links instad of directories....

Hi Jeepster,
I totally agree with Francisco...guest blogging should only by one element of building links, the fact is we don't know what the algorithm is for a reason (the fun is in the hunt).
I have found if you do a combination of the little things correctly and keep to the basics of web marketing and optimisation, "regular content", social media presence, and good on-site optimisation etc, etc it will go along way!
I recently tested a couple of sites to see what sort of timeframe it would take google to index a page..so I set up "Google Alerts" for certain keywords I wanted to target, the theory behind this I would be able to see how long it takes for google to index and crawl a page and in particular a link. and then measure it against my SERP (search placing)
I tested out the theory on two sites SBWire and PRBuzz, it only took 2 days for it to get indexed and my placing did move not long after, in the right direction
So to answer your questions, PR's are still an effective link building strategy; however it is all still relative to what your competition is doing ? do they have a strong social media presence, do they blog do they have great content content.
I hope this helped, what does everyone else think ??

We don't know exact what Google does to rank websites. I think it's a good thing doesn't let us know the algorithm.
I think link building through guest blog posting should only be one thing you should do. How about leaving testimonials on other websites? I have used that successfully especialy with companies that use our service.

Jeepster, I can tell you a few things that are just his long and arduous. If I may ask are you currently blogging on your own domain? I'm assuming so right? What are you doing to get your blogs out there so people actually recognize your site as an authority on search engine optimization?
You can rewrite your entire website. I would recommend using scribe SEO or scribe content
When doing so you can make your articles longer that seems to help. In addition to that you can make them more engaging essentially make it the next version of your website in addition why don't you throw in some new graphics and redo your entire website top to bottom. It would be a very very cool thing to do as Caplewood pay attention to the look of the site and then give it a go. But you must out the content there to keep them. As far as the maximum impact factor I would go with getting your information in the hands of a well-known authority see if you can get some retweets. Consistently blog do not stop blogging on your own website. Speed up your site this will do wonders even though Google only gives it a couple hundred of a point it actually will increase user usability and user happiness. I would start out with a strong's very strong email campaign that's not spamming it all talk to the guys at Mill33.com they are the best in my opinion and I'll help you through the entire process email campaigns when done right can have some of the highest ROI of any specular search engine optimization technique or online marketing technique. I hope I have been of help to you sincerely, Thomas oh PS do not forget to make sure those newsletters and email updates all link to strong landing pages. So update your host update your mail update your site and you will be alright.

paid guest posts or purchasing backlink from Authority website is Black Hat SEO or safe?
Hi dear MOZ community members, I am a new blogger. I need some suggestions while link building for the blog: duplicate bills. If I buy backlinks from authority websites through guest posts then is this safe for my website or is it black hat SEO and could lead to penalization by Google? Kindly guide me.

Has anyone used Fat Joe as an outsource solution for blog links?
Hi guys, I have seen a company on social media a lot recently who offer a guest blog posting service. It seems to be reasonable quality from the reviews and the blurb they give as they at least seem to find you a relevant blogger to match up with, actually write good content with as many reviews as is needed and then post it to just that one page. I noticed on their site they have claimed that their service is Loved by Moz but I couldn't find any reference to them anywhere on the Moz site. My question is - has anyone used them and are the links going to be any good for my site?

Removing links from rubbishy 'blog' sites
I need to remove around 800 bad links, probably about 500 domains as a very rough estimate. These were built by a previous link building company. Here some example domains: http://globalweddingblog.com

http://womansonlineblog.org I have already tried emailing a hundred or so with a manual link request - with zero outcome. Hardly surprising when you consider the types of sites they are. I've had a quote for a link removal service, but I'm not sure if it's wise to pay someone to do this work - not sure what resources/tools they would have above and beyond what I can access and there could be increased risk. Any advice?0 -
Blog links: Going out or staying in?
I am a wedding photographer and have a "Venues" page on my website. Am I better associating the links to the venue's actual website or to a blog post featuring a wedding I did there? (PS: In the blog post there will be a post aiming at the venue's website.) Thanks!

Do follow Blog comments
Alright,
Link Building | | sebastiankoch
I would like to know what do you think about this practice in general and hear some answer for my case. My case: I know a net of different blogs that let you put do follow comments as long as they are good. It is not really a lot of spam going on yet, around 6 comments per blog entry. The do follow link is in the form www.xyz.com. Normally a PR 3 after the post ranks.
There are around 20 different blogs. I have already use them and I believe with good results but can´t measure it as I do many other SEO activities. Would you recommend to get to invest time commenting in all of them? Even if all them are in the same C-block? Please feel free to share any experience!

When is link building an SEO priority? (vs. something else)
I'm considering hiring an SEO vendor for link building, and assessing whether or not my website really needs link building, vs. another SEO priority (for instance, I KNOW there's an opportunity for local SEO). What factors should I look at to determine if link building is a high priority? Should I just compare the number links my site has with competitors, using a tool like Open Site Explorer?

How to Outsource Guest Blog Posts?
We have operated a small ecommerce company for over 10 years in the home and garden industry. Our product niche is small and there is not a lot of "community" around it as it is just not a social product, yet the product is interesting. Our internal time is very limited and therefore we have hired external help over the years to do our SEO. As you all know, this is very challenging to do affordably and not get spammers. As part of our SEO strategy we would like to do some guest blog posts but do not have the internal time to research and build the relationships needed. We basically have no internal writing skills and have always hired writers to do our blog postings. My question is if you had to hire someone to do guest blog posts how would you go about finding the right person to use? Of course an excellent writer would be required. What would you expect to pay for this type of service? Would you do it hourly or "pay per live post". Any ideas on where to find this type of person? Thanks.

Guest Blogging - Build a relationship with a few blogs and post only there or post a few on as many good blogs as possible?
I'm curious which strategy is better in the short term and in the long-term? Part of my link building strategy involves contacting bloggers and posting some guest blogs on their sites. Now there are advantages with posting on a few blogs and creating a link between you and the blog readers and the blog owner. It also saves time trying to contact blog owners etc. However would my time be better spent contacting hundreds of blogs and seeing where I can guest blog and then post on as many as possible; in order to have a diverse number of links going back to my website? What do you think is the best option and why?
