When do I use no-follow links to interlink on my own site?
-
Hi Mozzers,
When would I ever want to use no-follow links when interlinking pages on my site? The more authority being passed around, the better, right?
Does it save or conserve page rank / authority from being transferred to pages you don't necessarily need it on?
Thanks!

Oh no it wasn't a judgement on you just odd that the question is so common currently. As if something happened where confusion was created on a mass scale. Anyway, no apology necessary it's a fair question.

Whoops, my bad.
I've been away from the Q+A for a bit.
-
My rule is to only no-follow sponsored links.
Google is going to recognize a SEOed site that has tried to sculpt their link juice by excessively no following. Sites that naturally rank well (and produce content people want) don't utilize this technique.
-
yeah i've noticed this too. strange i wonder why that is/

Oddly enough this is the third time this question has popped up in the past week or so (!)
I refer you to my previous answer:
Matt Cutts says: _Don't _no-follow internal links:

You almost never want to nofollow your own links.
Nofollowing your own links does not result in more link juice being passed around, it just results in link juice "evaporation" where you lose the value that would have been passed to that page without the nofollow. See:

If there is a page on your site you don't want indexed, use noindex, follow in the header instead. That will keep the page from getting indexed while preserving link equity.

Is having a Video important for SEO or is it the time-on-site that's important?
Assuming it's a relevant video, is having a video on your landing page considered a good SEO tactic in and of itself? Meaning, when google crawls the page, will they say "good job, there's a video here." Or is having a video on your landing page something that helps you improve on other ranking factors like increased time on site? So, it would not be the video itself google "likes" but rather the increased User Experience factors that went up. (Crossing my fingers I explained this well enough) Thanks for any input, Ruben

Should I delete youtube videos when moving to Wistia (or other on-site platform)?
One of my new clients recently built a site that has a great potential for ranking product pages with video rich snippets. Each product page has a single video, but they are currently hosted on youtube and embedded using Youtube iframes. Overall the videos aren't a great fit for Youtube, and we have decided to move the product videos to Wistia. (Much thanks to Phil Nottingham for his answers in this post, and his overall insights on video SEO in general). So what is the best way to make sure we get original credit for the video? I'm planning to take down all the product videos from the Youtube account as soon as we switch the embeds on the site. Is that enough?

Backlink value of 9Slides.com link
I got a backlink from http://www.9slides.com (site like slideshare) which is cool but I'm trying to compare its worth vs a link from slideshare. It is extra work to create content in slide + video format and its DA is lower- are there any positives I'm missing? Has anyone analyzed this site, any suggestions?

Does having a link in a clear advertising area diminish the value?
We were pleasantly surprised when a new skateboarding magazine/blog popped up recently. We have a good working relationship with the guys who run the site and they dropped our logo and a link to our site on the home page of their blog. As a national skateboarding retailer, this is the kind of site we would naturally show up on with link, logo, content, etc. So we feel we gained a highly relevant, potentially valuable link. One question came up, however: by being linked to in an area that's clearly designated for advertisers, is our potential link value diminished? See the site and our placement here (rt column, Tactics logo):http://www.curbcutmag.com/ Curious what some of you think.

Is it possible for a web site to get 'Pigeon Holed' geographically?

widgets.com 'Widgets'
widgets.com/houston/ 'Houston Widgets'
widgets.com/dallas/ 'Dallas Widgets' So I've optimized my site accordingly where my home page has no Geo optimization and my 'city pages' are all geo optimized, complete with hcard brick and mortar addresses that are all legit offices that sell our widgets. My problem, is that despite all that, my home page (which again, is not geo-optimized) is now ranking for 'Dallas Widgets'. This is messing up my strategy and very frustrating because the home page does not have any information Dallas residents will find helpful about widgets. So my question is, am I better off just owning this 'Dallas' label is forcing on my site and just optimize the home page for dallas and keep the rest of the 9 cities in their directories? Does anyone have any experience with getting pigeonholed geographically speaking?0 -
Best way to use popular YouTube channel for SEO purposes
Hi all, We have a YouTube channel containing about 25 videos we created professionally a few years ago. They are all product features and are hosted on our site for applicable products (a very small percentage of our overall number of products). This channel was largely forgotten about for a few years. It has now reached over 160k views. What's the best way to utilize these videos for SEO benefits? Any techniques anyone has to maximize our ever increasing number of views? Thanks

Image SEO - Does having multiple sites using same image help?
I'd assume that if many websites reference the same image on a server that this image would rank higher in image results than a similar image that is only used on 1 website.I have yet to do any testing with this to be certain, but how important does this factor seem to be in regards to image SEO?

How much link juice do SVG images pass?
I have been experimenting with SVG images for SEO in the last 7 months. I can definitely get pages indexed using embedded links within SVG images but have not had much success measuring link juice. Have you tried anything along similar lines? How much link juice does an SVG image pass?
