.htacces measure
-
Hi, what is a reasonable measure of an .htacces? i have a lot of 301 redirects and wonder when will this turn against me because there are to much 301 redirects?
-
okay i try to keep it under 100 lines and was wondering is this to much.. i know to little from apache rewritemap and looking for a dutch translation of the link you send me. so i can try that.
Thanx again!
-
there is no documented number that is considered as a flag. but i keep my htaccess less than 200 lines
-
Thanx for the answer but what is a reasonable measure of an .htacces? do know that?
-
.htaccess file is evaluated on EVERY server request. So you are talking when it pulls images, CSS, JSS and all elements, the htaccess gets evaluated. ie when you have more than 400 lines in a htaccess file. the server will go through all of them to reply to the request. hence make your site load speed slow.
So you have two options when your htaccess file goes big:
- Make it Smart: you can use rewrite rules and wildcards to minimize 300 lines in a htaccess file to just couple of lines
- move the redirects to be controlled by http.conf on the server level with rewrite map. (reference: http://httpd.apache.org/docs/current/rewrite/rewritemap.html)
hope this helps

Is This a Misuse of Structured Data (JSON Recipe Tag on Collection Pages)?
I've noticed that many food blogs use the "recipe" tag to rank collection pages in carousels. For example, for the search term "Zucchini Recipe," Gaumenfreundin is in the first position in the carousel with a page that contains multiple recipes. This makes sense if the user intent is plural (e.g., "recipes") - but in the singular? According to Google's guidelines, the recipe tag is intended for individual recipes. Google even states that it is a misuse if only the ingredients are listed without the steps. So, isn't it against the guidelines to tag a collection page (even additionally) with the recipe tag? This practice is already common in the US market. Is Google aware of this and possibly tolerating it because it sometimes makes sense to present multiple recipes to the user? For example, "Zucchini Recipe" - the user might not yet know exactly what they want to cook with zucchini. Or do you think Google will take action against this practice in the future?

Downsides on shortening article title?
Hi there, I'm new to Moz: great tool so far! I just tried the page optimization feature and see that (for instance for this article) page titles are often too long. Now it's tempting to just shorten the title straight away, but I have a memory of someone once telling me changing the title will change the URL. And changing the URL is something not appreciated by Google. Could someone please explain if and why this is/isn't the case? And if there are any downsides/things to consider before changing the article's title? Thank you in advance!

Whilst I have done funnels before theyve been wired into actual pages using Goal funnels in analytics but this scenario of a kind of splash jQuery page appearing has got me stumped, ive no idead how to measure frequeny of click aways (if you see what i mean).
Any ideas welcome 🙂 Thanks,

Is there a way to measure a competitors content growth?
Bonjour from 23 Degrees C hot & sultry Wetherby UK, I find again and again clients find jumping into an active volcano easier than addid fresh content. I want to try another tactic to prompt / scare them into adding content and here is my idea. I want to track a competitor site for a target term and monitor if they are adding content over time specific to that term. So my question is please: "Is there a reliable method to do this?" Ideas i had was doing a good old Google Title operator at the beginning of the month and then at monthly intervals to see if anything changes. Any insights welcome 🙂
