Listing multiple locations on Facebook for local business and top platforms for local SEO
-
What is the easiest way to register multiple locations for a business to Facebook local? I'm sure we've all had the challenge of multiple local business listings for a client. The set up is just busy work, but the verification can be an issue with some busier or less organized locations.
I'm interested to see if anyone has a more eloquent solution to achieve this.
I also have a second question as far as local listings go - how would you rank the most influential local listing platforms?
Thanks,
Bill

Hi Chad!
One thing to be aware of is that Facebook and Google have totally opposite requirements for multi-location businesses.
Google wants you to use only the real-world business name on all of the listings.
By contrast, Facebook won't let you create more than one listing with the same name on it. In other words, you can't have 5 Facebook Places for Bill's Repair Shop. You have to have Bill's Repair Shop Chicago, Bill's Repair Shop Boston, Bill's Repair Shop Denver, etc.
It's kind of a difficult scenario, because then your Facebook Places won't match your Google My Business data (nor your other citations if you go with the real-world business name on them). On the other hand, your competitors are all in the same boat with this one, so the negative impact of it is pretty much moot.
Hope this helps!

This conversation happened a couple of years ago now. Are there any updates on the issue of creating Facebook pages for businesses with more than 1 location? Thanks!

Hi Bill,
I found this post to be on the eloquent side http://mashable.com/2012/05/17/facebook-page-businesses/
But does it answer your question? If not, please let me know.
You can create a single page with tabs for the different locations, or create multiple pages. See:
https://www.facebook.com/pages/create/?ref_type=sitefooter
Regarding local listings platforms, Google is clearly the big cheese, but beyond that, it's going to vary by industry/geography. Yelp is enormous in many verticals, of course. Check out these two resources from GetListed.org:

Hope this helps!

What is a good forum or resource to contact fellow SEO professionals for SEO partnership opportunities i.e. link trades?
While Moz is an excellent resource, i get the impression that it is for community-based SEO questions that can serve as a knowledge database. I am looking for a forum or resource where I can contact other SEO workers to explore link exchange opportunities. For example, i want to reach out to those who do SEO for audio/visual, technology, and event-planning companies so i can offer them links in exchange for some recommended links to my site. Before anyone dogs on link trading as being spammy and not best practice, it would only be done in a useful, relevant, and non-spammy fashion with other high authority sites. Thanks! Ryan

SEO Ads On Third Party Job Sites?
Hello all, I seriously doubt I will get a reply to this as I'm guessing no one has experience with it. if you do though then I would appreciate any information either via comment or PM. Basically, I need to know how I can improve the rankings of job posts within the third party sites. An example would be totaljobs.com, how can I improve the rankings of advertisements that are posted there or is it simply ranked by date and location?. When I had my eBay business, I did a lot of research on eBay SEO and discovered some important factors for ranking within the eBay website. I'm basically wanting to do the same here on job board websites for job ads posted to them. Their algorithms won't be as advanced as Google etc so I'm guessing if they do they will be open for higher keyword density levels and that kind of thing.. I've googled it quite a bit and can't find any information at all on it. Thanks.

Local SEO Practice: Creating a Fictitious Business?
Has anyone tried fabricating a fake, brick-and-mortar store as an SEO experiment? Sort of along the lines of what Starwood is doing (check out this Wikipedia experiment with the Test Galaxy Sheraton), but with a legitimate physical address and all? Was it useful? And are there any potential legal troubles that could arise from borrowing a vacant address? I'm thinking this could be helpful for my Intern to gain practical experience in local SEO, without the politics of working for a client But I wouldn't want to blight that address for future occupants if the experiment went horribly awry. We could instead offer pro bono services to a small business with a limited web presence – that would be useful to her, and constructive. But I'd like to have a better understanding of what signals Google looks for when deciding whether to index a website in local search, and see whether possible to dupe those algos. What are your thoughts, Mozzers? .

Market Motive - Take their SEO Course?
Hi there, I'm considering taking Market Motive's online SEO course for $3,500. It's a steep price for me so I wanted to ask you guys if this is a wise choice. The course would grant me certification and is around 90 days to complete. Has anyone had any experience with this course? It seems a little old, but Market Motive claims they update their videos.

Does Server Speed Effect SEO Rankings?
I was told by a website developer that Google ranks sites higher if they are hosted on faster servers. Is this true? For example my site is currently limited because it is a Quick Shopping Cart site hosted by Godaddy. He said that if I hosted my research chemical site with a different company with faster servers I could get better ranking immediately. I linked to my site. I think it loads ok. However Godaddy probably isn't the fastest service around.
