What's better for seo, NOINDEX, or INDEX
-
Hello Mozers;
I am having an issue, my client has 10K pages on their site; in WP, and they have a classified section.
Question #1: I am asking, what's better for seo, NOINDEX, or INDEX, for their Classified section.
They currently have no SEO plug ins, that fix their errors, and warnings.
Question #2: My question is also, do I want the Categories crawled, or INDEXED or NOINDEX?
Check out their Campaign results by Moz:
-
Title Element Too Long (> 70 Characters)
32
-
Too Many On-Page Links
9,032
-
Missing Meta Description Tag

If you want someone to confirm Matts answer I would do the same thing.
Hope that help,
Thomas

Hi
I personally would say that you want all your classifieds ads indexed (INDEX) as they will help with your long tail traffic from the search engines. I used to run a classified ads section on a site that I ran and the classified ads system picked up a fair amount of long tail traffic. In turn this helped drive more traffic and conversions through the site as a whole.
Have you considered adding a plugin like Yoast SEO? This is an excellent tool and it will help you sort out your Moz Campaign results.
Have a look here - http://yoast.com/articles/wordpress-seo/
As far as too many on-page links goes moz reports what is best standard but I can tell you from experience that I have had successful sites redesigned and there on-page links have increased to above this threshold so have been flagged by Moz. However my rankings went up even with this issue because it made sense from a users perspective so I stuck with it and it paid off.
Meta descriptions are your page description and call to action so not having them misses out on the added benefit of enticing a potential visitor from the SERPs. However Google is pretty good at determining what meta to incorporate and this element doesn't directly affect your rankings. I used to have a summary section/text box that users had to enter a short description into in order to submit a classified. This was also used to populate meta description. It just made this element easier to populate and make unique I found.
FINAL NOTE - just to be clear you don't want to restrict access to any of your sites content in terms classified adds and their categories - the more unique content that is indexed the better it is for your SEO - more chances of picking up traffic especially from the long tail specific searches.
I hope this helps

Hotel SEO, 3-pack & Search Console: How to get the right data and how to improve CTR?
Hey guys, I've been working with some hotels and I feel like there are some specific issues which need special solutions.

Maybe some of you also work for hotels and face similar problems. Question 1: Google "forces" 3-packs impressions to OTAs like booking.com via Hotel Ads. You basically have a big blue "book now" button and a small little website button. This ends up basically leading to CTRs below 1% despite a 1-3 Position. Is there any way to improve the organic CTR? Of course we use hotel ads, but they offer bad analytics AND we basically pay for our SEO-Performance. Question 2: Search console doesn't specify wether or not a impression comes from 3-Pack or the rest of the organic results, which basically leads to a average position which says nothing. It's hard to evaluate the performance of meta-titles and texts, because the ctr is also mixed. What would be a better way to get this data or do you think google will change this in some time (new search console doesn't offer this). Question 3: Hotel Rankings are dominated by OTAs, Meta-Searchers and BIg Chains. Has anyone experience in SEO for smaller, family owned Hotels? Any tricks how to get a steady traffic source outside of brand results? Hope there are some travel experts in here 🙂0 -
Is it stil a rule that Google will only index pages up to three tiers deep? Or has this changed?
I haven't looked into this in a while, it used to be that you didn't want to bury pages beyond three clicks from the main page. What is the rule now in order to have deep pages indexed?

Google indexing my website's Search Results pages. Should I block this?
After running the SEOmoz crawl test, i have a spreadsheet of 11,000 urls of which 6381 urls are search results pages from our website that have been indexed. I know I've read that /search should be blocked from the engines, but can't seem to find that information at this point. Does anyone have facts behind why they should be blocked? Or not blocked?

How do you get photo galleries indexed on Google News?
I work for a news site and some of our photo galleries get indexed by Google News while others never do. I'm trying to determine why some are more successful than others even though they all follow the same guidelines regarding keyword-rich headlines & copy, h1s, etc. When comparing what's been indexed in the past with current galleries, there doesn't appear to be an obvious pattern. Can anyone share some insight into this?

SEO Link building / Article Distributation
Quick question in regards to link building and OFF PAGE SEO... Why isn't Articles distributation via wire services considered a "Duplicate Content" issue by Google? i.e. If take the one article and post it accross 50 (do follow) websites, Press release sites, and blogs. I would love to hear your thoughts and feedback on this. Regard, Sammy

SEO Test: Domain Hyphenation [Update]
In May I announced test results for domain hyphenation but after a 3 month followup the results have changed and the hyphenated domain now wins on what seems to be the first link instance advantage. I was unable to discover any other factors which may have influenced this test but if anyone has any ideas I would like to hear about it. Here are the details of the SEO test and revealed URLs.
