Anyone Else Frustrated with the new Keyword Planner
-
...This is a general discussion.
-
I was doing keyword research earlier today and now see the replaced landing page. This tool is garbage for SEO and more tailored for SEM.
The search volume for some terms are remarkably inaccurate. I really hope they start fine tuning this tool because it is definitely that great.
-
Is there a Duck Duck Go research tool?
-
I'm curious, what search data has been lost?
-
I think it's pretty clear Google is more interested in doing whatever they can do convince marketers that PPC should be the most important tool in your digital arsenal.
Hopefully, bing will overtake Google in the next five years.
-
Thanks, Rob. I'll certainly check this out as soon as I can. I'll have to get on the Bing side of things too!
-
Of course. BING data is for BING search and Google Data for Google. I should have clarified that to make sure they understood, but at the same time. BING is just doing some kick ass stuff that Google should have been paying attention too in the last year
-
Bing's keyword tool is of course based on Bing searches, so not directly correlated with Google search. (Though I imagine there would be some similarity.) I too really like Bing's webmaster interfaces.
-
Bing has great search and keyword data in the BWMT section of the site. You can also explore the data for your sites. I'm very impressed with what BING has done in the last 1-2 years and their webmaster tools central is really great. I've just started using Jaxxy and have a full 30 day test account running now. It's only free for the 1st 30 days, and I'm not sure yet where they are pulling there data from.
Google dropped the ball on changing up their KW tool. I don't think they took the time to work with and poll SEO's as BING did. Duane Forrester was really involved with making sure the data we get, KW data etc, and the UX on it was what SEO's really needed when working on sites. Check out this Duane Forrester WBF from a while back. I'm sure he would have even more to share on top of that!

Yes I have to agree. My Adwords advisor told me similar things. Basically he said "we're working on it" and that "I'm not the only one with the complaints. Sad if you ask me. So much data has been lost and it's really hard to get new ideas.
Rob, the old Google keyword tool seems to have been removed from all of my accounts that I manage. There is no more "go back" button as of this morning. It sucks really.
Along these lines, can anyone suggest new keyword research tools to use? Rob, I've never used Bing or Jaxxy - what's your opinion on those?
-
Yes! I actually find it very frustrating. I'm not happy with the new tool by Google, and with the new tool, we will be losing more valuable search data to make decisions from the old Keyword Tool. I'm currently use Jaxxy (testing it out) and Bing. I'm still using the old Google keyword tool, until the take it out of commission in the coming months.
-
Yes! I am having multiple problems, including values that would change when I sorted my columns.
I contacted Adwords support and was told, "Unfortunately the information in the Keyword Planner Tool is currently not the best source of data for your analysis."
She went on to say that she would get back to me when the tool was usable. I have not heard back yet, so I am not using it.
At the very least, they should say that this is in beta and have it on the side, rather than as the primary resource that someone who wasn't paying attention might use, and end up spending money based on bad data.

Should I continue adding new content on the website penalized by Google?
I have a website that is imposed partial action by Google due to unnatural links. We are in the process to clean up those links. At the same time, I want to add more content to the same website. My concern is whether the new content pages will be affected by Google's action as well. Should I wait until we finish the cleanup and get a green light from Google? In addition, will it be worth doing some on-page optimization on the pages that are affected by unnatural links and Google's penalty? Please advise. Thanks. John

Has anyone been able to by pass charges to have links removed?
I am working on Google Reconsideration Request Process for a website and have been asked by a few links to pay a certain amount to have my link removed however, the links were placed without my knowledge is there any way to be able to get them to remove without having to pay especially since I did not ask to be linked anyway? Does anyone know if Google has a templete that has been used in the past that possibly works well to bypass charge due? Thanks!

One keyword has dropped, everything else is ok, why?
Ok so this is what I got, 1 page ranks for about 5 different terms, all closely matching for example: Flower Pots, Flower Pot, Cheap Flower Pots, Buy Flower Pots. Flower Pot and Flower Pots are on page 2. Flower Pot stays where it is BUT Flower Pots drops out the rankings completely after being there for years. Could a blast of exact match anchor text at the term Flower Pots cause this? I would have thought the page would have been zapped rather then just one keyword. Any ideas?

How long does it take for new links to show up?
Hi all, We just kicked off our first infographic to start a content marketing strategy: I'm wondering how long it will take for SEOMoz to add this to our link profile, and I suppose more importantly, how long it will take Google to recognize the links that have been generated from it. The response has been pretty good and I'm excited to see the results. Thanks!

How do I best leverage second EMD domain with same keyword as an important page on my other site?
(Fictional domain names and keywords follow) Let's say I have an Adense site called Diets.com And on that site I've got 10 pages for the ten most popular diets, and each of those pages is optimized for the diet name. Let's imagine one of these pages is called, "The low-carb diet." Then I went out and purchased the domain name LowCarbDiet.com. How do I best use this new domain name? My options seem to be: 1. Build an adsense site on LowCarbDiet.com. But isn't it a problem when the the same owner of LowCardDiet.com and Diets.com are trying to rank for the same keyword? The new site would be trying to rank for "low carb diet" and so would the appropriate page on Diets.com. I think Google doesn't like this. True? 2. Make a one-page introductory informational site with no ads on the new LowCarbDiet.com. Have a prominent link from that site to the appropriate page on Diets.com for the reader to get "further information." This link with the proper anchor text should help boost the page in Diets.com in the SERPs. IF Google doesn't dislike that. SO...is one idea better than the other? Are neither a good idea? Is there a better way to utilize this new domain? It's important because this second domain name's keyword is about to get a huge amount of search traffic. The new, parked domain name is currently registered in the same name as the existing site's name. I could change the registration or privacy it, but I assume Google maintains records of all past registered owners, and if so, I can't really hide ownership.
