Weekly Linkbuilding Task List
-
I am trying to create a weekly link building task list for my team. We are 3 people.
Does any one have any suggestion?
For example:
1 - Write x blog posts.
2 - Comment on x relevant sites.
3 - Outreach x people.
4 - Publish x guest post.
5 - Produce and Distribute x info graphic.
Does any one have any suggestions? what else should I add to the list? How many of each?

Something it's easy to miss...
Spend time to understand who your target audience is, what they're interested in, what motivates them and what do they care about... Don't fall into the trap of defining your target audience with generic terms like "30 something professional" or "stay at home mum" - that doesn't do anyone any favours.
The more you really know about the people you're trying to talk to - the easier it'll be to do the stuff on your list and if you understand them properly you'll know how to do it in an authentic, engaging way that's relevant to them.
Don't lose site of the fact that a link isn't just a link, but should/could also get your referral traffic too (if it's relevant, in the right place and gives people a real reason to follow it. And really, it's all about the traffic isn't it?

Sorry guys when I said "link building" I actually meant "link earning". A few answers I got proves Rand point on his video in the Moz Academy in the "link building" section.
The reason we like calling this practice "link earning" rather than "link building" is because link building has a bad association from the past. Historically, link building has been associated with spammy and blackhat practices.
In the same video Rand also says:
This does not mean you should just sit back and wait to be discovered. That's not what we’re talking about. Link earning is a proactive process, but it's not just focused on paying for links or spamming links.
This to do list I am creating is the "Proactive Process", I believe that making goals is part of any successful strategy.
Does any one proactive earning links have any kind of weekly or daily to-do list? What do you have in your list? What do you suggest I should add to mine?

We are out from the era where our task sheet contains numbers... now it’s all about what quality you can produce!
For Instance, if you have a client related to SEO and Online Marketing and you are planning 5 blogs per month, I would rather prefer to create 1 kickass post that Moz can approve and it can go live on Youmoz (ideally promoted to Main Blog).
Hope this helps!

3 - Outreach x people.
Here's is where most companies need to focus. I feel that many people do not offer any value to webmasters whe conducting outreach. Every week I get approached with something like "Hi, I have some copy that's original content. " To me the's bs because I didn't ask for it and I know it's probably being re-spun. My link builder gets about 1 new domain that links to my client every day. It's a slow process, but what makes it more scalable is using a software like Buzzstream.
So I would encourage you to learn how to use Buzzstream effectively and to use Advanced search operators to make it easier. If you have any questions regrading buzzstream, PM me.
Also, WRITE SOME SUPER KICK ASS CONTENT PEOPLE WANT TO LINK TO
-
what else should I add to the list? How many of each?
I think that you should add the words... "kickass" and "best-on-the-web". These words should replace "X" in each of your items.
-
Sure, We will be creating relevant and valuable content to attract, acquire, and engage a clearly defined and understood target audience or in other words we will create content that people want to read.
My question is how to distribute? Do you post 100% of the content you produce in your site?
-
Agree.
It's time to stop thinking about link building and start with link earning. That actually is the ONLY way to get natural backlinks.
Forcing you to "create" content just for the purpose of a link will surely make the content irrelevant, and therefore loosing the " link earning" part.
Write/create/post what can really be interesting to your audience, and when you feel the need to.
-
The simple answer is don't produce content for the sake of link building! If you have something to write about that users will find interesting then you should do it by all means but otherwise you will lose credibility and people won't want to link back to you anyway.
The other important thing to remember is link velocity... Don't gain too many links too quickly otherwise, at best, they will be ignored by Google as they will see the links as unnatural.

Dodgy linkbuilding tactic?
Hello I'm hoping someone can help...does the below link building tactic sound a bit suspect... An editorial link (articles are subject to review) on a relevant, good authority site, however, it's free to submit an article and there doesn't seem to be much in the way of engagement/comments. Here's the site in question if that helps! http://www.health-host.co.uk/ Thanks for any help you can offer. Alice

Still worth it to get listed on "resources" pages
Hello,
Link Building | | imcolej
I'm a new moz user who handles the online marketing for www.griefrecoverymethod.com. We provide grief support groups and 1-1 work as well as professional training for caregivers. We are on some websites as a grief resource, but not as many as I think we can be on. We have never attempted to reach out on a large scale to get added to sites. Is this type of link building worth a large campaign for us? Or has the ship sailed on link building with resource pages. I'm fairly new to all of this so any guidance at all would be appreciated. Thanks!0 -
SEOMoz directory list - some clarity needed FROM SEOMOZ STAFF
There are 455 directories (212 web, 188 social & 55 local) on the SEOMoz list.
Link Building | | Jeepster
Presumably they are there because SEOMoz recommends them. Yet common wisdom seems to be that web directories have negligible SEO benefit - see this recent SEOMoz Q&A discussion.
Matt Cutts advises against paid directories in this video (which >99% of them are)
In a private Q&A last month a member of the SEOMoz staff told me a link to my site from this directory, which appears on the list, was a "poor link". I think some better clarity in SEOMoz's guidelines on directories would be appreciated -- and I'd appreciate SEOMoz staff weighing in as promised when Private Q&As were ended -- especially as many SEOMozzers take most of what we learn here as near-gospel.1 -
Is it a good idea to have some backlinks point back to your business listing on the various directories?
During my link building campaign Ive been doing competitive research. I noticed that one of my competitors, who ranks very well organically and locally, has several back links pointing back to his business listing page on the various directories, such as Manta, Yellowbot, and so forth. Ive seen one of their profile pages with a PA as high as 65, where mine has a PA of 1. They seem to be heavily involved in spammy and shady techniques. This is why I'm asking if this is a recommended practice?

How do directories that pull listings from DMOZ work?
I've listed an example below. I see these all the time, where a directory pulls it's listings from DMOZ. So you would naturally assume that if you're in DMOZ, you would get these links, but that's not the case. This particular link was picked up by OSE so I'm wondering what the quality of these links really are and if they're legit? Also, if you go to the main subdomain the page just says "Buy shirts". What is the deal with these types of so-called "directories"? http://www.searches.org/go/search/Shopping/Home_and_Garden/Furniture/ Another example: http://www.westcairn.com/furniture.htm

Listings, paid profiles and directories
Hi, In the industry I am working in (education), we do have a lot of portals offering paid listings (for example profiles featuring a school, the courses you offer, sometimes with reviews etc). Almost all big competitors and big names normally do have these kind of listings. Besides from having to decide if these sites really bring the relevant conversions, I am wondering about their impact on SEO. An example for an offer:
Link Building | | ecnic
Our Top Picks listing is a 40 word listing and logo we put on any 30 pages of our web site, example.com for 12 months, for $595 US. You can choose the pages you want, or we can put you on all our [category] pages, or certain continents/countries you want to target. Now, I am wondering: Do I have to worry about my linking profile ? (All of sudden a bunch of links with the exact same anchortext and content embedding to our site?) Or can I just decide to go with a paid listing based on the link value the page offers me? Looking forward to reading what you think!
