Loss of Google referral traffic after server move / CMS move
-
I have a client that changed from MoveableType to Wordpress. He also changed from a dedicated server to WP Engine.
He may have blocked search engines for a week or two, so his organic traffic is down but only by 25%. He's 301 redirecting all of the old pages. The mystery is that his referral traffic from Google is down 90%. It's a popular blog, so that's thousands. It's been going on a month now. Anyone seen this before?

Nakul's got the right idea. You need to basically determine if any old pages are 404'ing. Webmaster tools is your #1 best in this case. Take a look at crawl errors and see if there's a spike.
When you say "referral traffic from Google" do you mean "google organic search" or do you mean actually referrals in the strict sense of "referral traffic"?
You can also check to see if something caused the rankings to drop. It sounds like the migration may not have been done totally perfect. Rather than having the site blocked from Google for a few weeks (not even a good idea) the new site would have been on a test or dev server (blocked) and when ready to switch you'd essentially unblock it, do all the redirects and make the new one live.
Which leads me to ask - what happened to the old site?

Are you seeing any 404s in Google Webmaster Console ?
Also, it might be worth submitting an XML sitemap into GWC and seeing what percentage of your pages are indexed. Is there an unintentional noindex or something like that ? What I am trying to identify is, are your new pages 100% indexed ?

How to filter out client traffic
Hi, I would like to filter out traffic in GA that comes to my client site just to login into their application. Is there a way to create a filter or segment that if a visitor exits the site to a subdomain it will filter them out? For example, they land on the homepage (abc.com/), click the login tab (drop down screen) and login and go to their application dashboard (app.abc.com/). I would like to delete this traffic segment as it is creates high bounce rates and makes it difficult to test landing pages. Thanks so much, Donna 🙂

My own brand searches stopped appearing in google
Hi everyone, I've never asked a question here before, so go easy on me 🙂 I've noticed recently that my site is not showing up for my own brand searches anymore, and that my organic google results are way down. For example, it used to be if you would search for "grouvee kings quest 6" you would either see http://www.grouvee.com/news/kings-quest-6-retro-rerun-playthrough-part-1/63/ or http://www.grouvee.com/games/kings-quest-vi-heir-today-gone-tomorrow/69/ show up first in google. Now they're nowhere to be found. Here's another example. If you would search for "grouvee mass effect 3" you'd either see http://www.grouvee.com/games/mass-effect-3/75/ or http://www.grouvee.com/news/mass-effect-3-lets-take-the-earth-back/136/ show up first in google. Once again, nowhere to be found. I could go on with several other examples, but I don't really know what I've done. I 301 redirected 2 pages a few weeks ago because I added a /reviews/ structure to my site and needed to move a couple of pages that used to be under /news/ over to the new section, but those shouldn't have had anything to do with the pages I referenced above. I haven't done any link building really. I submit some of my articles occasionally to places like reddit or n4g, but that's about it. Anyone have any tips or things I should be looking at?

Any updates regarding 'not provided' organic keyword referrals in Google Analytics?
I know that the encrypted searches done by people logged into their Google accounts is causing the error, is there any workaround or any update from Google as to IF they will give us our keyword data back? I'm currently losing data on about 20% of my daily searches . . .
