Keyword rich domains
-
Hi,
Our site is beingthere.com.au
We are in the business of video conferencing in Australia.
I was wondering if there would be any benefit of purchasing keyword rich domains such as
www.video streaming.net.au
What would be the benefit(s)?
And
How would I go about using these domains to maximise SEO benefit?
Thanks
Dan

Hi Guys,
I just registered on www.videoconferencing.com.au directory
http://www.videoconferencing.com.au/beingthere-video-conferencing-australia/
Hopefully this will assist with ranking for 'video conferencing'
Thanks for all your help

Don't underestimate the money-making ability of an info site.

I agree with Dignan. You will need to give up beingthere.com.au and replace it with videoconferencing.com.au.
Is there any other way of using these URLs to boost SERP for the 'video conferencing' keyword?
Not in any way that I think will work effectively.
-
Yes you would change it, but you would most likely do a 301 redirect from the old site to the new site so you do not lose pagerank.

Thanks dignan99

Thanks Egol,
Can you please confirm I am correct in my understanding, if I were to purchase any of these keyword rich domains i would need to change the root URL of our site to www.videoconferencing.com.au rather than beingthere.com.au?
Is there any other way of using these URLs to boost SERP for the 'video conferencing' keyword?
thanks
Dan

HI Dan,
The only way there would be value in purchasing those, IMHO, is if you had a stellar piece or hardware or software that may have a chance at dominating the industry. An informational site would not be worth the potential high cost of such ketyword rich domains, as software or hardware companies that dominate them have no need for this.
The keyword rich domain name ship has already sailed.

I would be getting in touch with them right away. At least before they see this thread.
They will probably want a mint for those domains but if you know what to do with them they could be really valuable.
-
I Agree with Egol, and actually http://www.videoconference.com.au/ and http://www.videoconferencing.com.au/ are both parked domains and probably for sale. Check http://whois.domaintools.com for owner details.

Those would probably be a little easier to rank for exact match keywords. However, the problem will be lots of people will forget about the .net and type .com. That might not sound like a big deal, however, the more successful your business becomes the more traffic and money you will loose to the guy who owns the .com.
If you are serious about this business try to get the .com. It might cost thousands but you will lose that much over time. Or, attack with your current domain which sounds brandable.

Domain Masking SEO Impact
I hope I am explaining this correctly. If I need to provide any clarity please feel free to ask. We currently use a domain mask on an external platform that points back to our site. We are a non-profit and the external site allows users to create peer-to peer fundraisers that benefit our ministry. Currently we get many meta issues related to this site as well as broken links when fundraisers expire etc. We do not have a need to rank for the information from this site. Is there a way to index these pages so that they are not a part of the search engine site crawls as it relates to our site?

Keyword Cannibalization?
I am not quite sure I totally understand the concept of keyword cannibalization. I have seen the SEO Moz Snowboard example... I tried to apply the concept but the on-page ranking sees a category page of mine with KW cannibalization. By the way, I still get an A for the targeted KW. I have an e-commerce site, one category page targets 'wool sweaters' and a product page for example is : 'chunky-knit wool turtleneck sweater' (there are 8 products total in this category all are flagged Cannibalizers). I didn't think KWC would be an issue...ranking seems to be effected judging ranking for other category pages w/o KW cannibalization issues. So, my question I guess is KW cannibalization really a big deal? What is taken into account when judging KW cannibalization. Title Tags? URLs? Thanks in advance

Domain Forwarding Implications
Hi, I am working with a client who is planning to rebrand the company and set up a new domain. What is the best way to maximize and pass the authority from the existing sites (there are 2)? Each site already has many inbound links and have been around for a while. Should I set up 301 redirects for all of the pages? Should I set up domain forwarding? If I do this, what are the implications from an SEO perspective? Please advise. Thank you, Erin

Domain authority and rankings?
I have a site that sits in #1 position for its keywords right now. But it only got there about 1mth ago. The site is only about 6mths old with lots of link building. I check the domain authority and its only 37/100 with the #2, #3 sites having domain authority of 57 and 82 respectively. This site has like 800+ backlinks. While the #2 and #3 sites have 20,000+ backlinks. Does it mean that my site will LIKELY drop in rankings very soon? I know there is no certainty but wld you say that it is highly probable my site will drop?

Buying a new domain
Hello guys! We are in process of buying a new domain. How can we be sure that this domain is not blacklisted and are there any steps to take in order to be sure that whatever we are buying is actually in "good shape"? Thanks much!
