Building Content on E-Commerce Store
-
Hey guys,
In 2011 it seems more and more important to build great content on your website to help SERP rankings.
With an E-Commerce store what is the best way to add content? Would using the blog and adding related blog articles related to the product work and internally linking the anchor text to the specific product page?
Obviously it would be more beneficial to rank the specific product page so wouldn't this method take away from those efforts? Or do we bank on being able to channel the visitor from the blog to the product page?
Thanks
Jason

Depending on the size of the site I would start look at the 'static pages' (Services, about us etc) and categories (as Alan mentions). These pages can allow you to rank for the broader match terms which usually have decent traffic amounts before going on the the daunting task of writing unique content for products (again as Alan mentions).

The single most important content is on those pages you want to rank in the organic results - pages you want people to come to. Blog content can SUPPORT that, however only as a secondary reinforcing means.
Unique paragraph based content on every category page, product thumbnail captions should be on all category pages. Individual product pages should have unique descriptions - neither found anywhere else on the web and also more than a handful of bullet points - the more content you can get on product pages, thats unique, the better.
This is why ratings and reviews are so popular on product pages nowadays - it's an additional (but should not be the primary) way to get more content on product pages. Through user generated content (UGC).

Market your product on the article page the same way that you would display any ad.

How much should I pay for one hour of content creation work?
Hi I have recently been looking for some new content creators to work with. And I recently asked a blogger that I know of how much he would charge for some content creations. I told him that I'm looking for some good compelling content that is about 400 to 500 words. And he told me that he would charge $180 an hour. I sorta feel like that's a bit to much, but I don't want to jump to conclusions without any advice from you all. I'm very well versed in my SEO and do most of the work for my site. But I think a fresh touch would really be helpful.

How much duplicate content counts as duplicate content to Google?
Hi everyone! I've had a look through some duplicate content posts and I can't see the answer to this query, so I thought I'd ask in case someone could help. I've been looking at a website that competes with the site that I work on. They have profile pages containing content that has been copied and pasted straight from the suppliers' websites. Their pages have all their own code framing the content, which is diluting the concentration of duplicate copy. How much duplicate content can a page have before it gets penalised or ignored by Google? Any suggestions very gratefully received 🐵

Remove Scraped Content?
There is a site I work for that has content that, when you search in Google a snippet of text from, they are not the top result for. I believe what has happened is that they had written blogs and articles and added them to their site and article directories at the same time and the article directories got cached first. If we're not coming up first for our article, that means we are not believed to be the original author, correct? Should I remove all content from our site where this is happening, even though we actually did create these articles?

Is Creating a Lot of Content A Bad SEO Strategy?
In Danny Dover's book, Search Engine Optimization Secrets, he talks about how every page on your site should be at least a little linkworthy, or it is just sucking link juice from the rest of the site and not contributing any. Does this mean that creating a lot of content, (like a daily news article on your site that summarizes industry news or something similar) is not a good SEO strategy? Should you limit the amount of content pages on your site unless it can attract links or hits on one of your target keywords? Thanks!

How can I use my unique content to my advantage?
Hi, I run http://ablemagazine.co.uk - we also put out a print magazine every 2 months (the biggest disability magazine in Britain) This means we have loads of unique content (around 30 feature stories and 30 news stories every 2 months) Just wondering how I can use this to my advantage? I've been social bookmarking the feature stories (reddit, etc) and a link to all my unique stuff on facebook/twitter. Just wondering if there's anything else I should be doing? Thanks
