Multilingual Website. Best SEO Strategy
-
Hello.
We have a client that will extend his business to severak countries in Europe.
So far its main market was the Spanish one. In this market it works with his own domain that is the same that its brand name. The domain does not contain any important keyword but it has been working for 11 years: www.efutgol.com. In Spain has a good ranking. It ranks number 1 or number 2, it fluctuates. But it also sells to France and Portugal. In the France market they used a domain with exact match with the French keyword that they are interested in: www.equipementsfootball.com/. The same strategy www.equipamentosfutebol.com in Portugal. Both have number 1 for the main keyword in those Countries for that keyword
Now they are going to sell in more countries.
The problem is that each website have a different CMS what makes necessary double maintenance. We are going to unificate in only one domain, one single design, one single CMS all websites. But were have doubts about SEO consequences of doing that
What is the best thing for URLs?
www.efutgol.com/fr/ .....
www.efutgol.com/es/
www.efutgol.com / ptWhat should we do with the domains that are so well positioned in france and portugal? 301 redirect will work? What should we expect? What would you do?
What things we should consider to keep the current position?
-
Why you consider we should redirect to the homepage instead of the folder of the specific language?
"301 redirect each existing site's home page to the new home page for the given language on the efutgol.com site"
To clarify, if equipamentsfootball.com is your current French homepage, and www.efutgol.com/fr is the new French homepage, then I am suggesting you 301 from equipamentsfootball.com to the /fr page.
In all instances you want to make this change as smooth and seamless as possible for users. This process also has the benefit of retaining the maximum amount of your current link value.
-
Thanks so much for your complete and usefull language.
I wonder if it would be better a 301 redirect from equipamentsfootball.com to www.efutgol.com/fr
why you consider we should redirect to the homepage instead of the folder of the specific language?
Is it important a redirection from homepage to homepage?
Thanks again.
-
I would recommend the following:
-
as you suggested, use www.efutgol.com/fr/ style of URLs for each language. It is preferable to subdomains
-
301 redirect each existing site's home page to the new home page for the given language on the efutgol.com site
-
offer flags at the top of each page representing each language. At times some customers will see your site in a language they do not understand. It is very important they have a quick and obvious way to adjust the language to meet their needs.
-
customize your languages for each country. While many countries may share a language, their dialects vary enough to require their own pages. A spanish page optimized for Spain will read differently then a spanish page designed for Mexican readers.
-
once the move has been completed 100% and tested, create a campaign for your French and Portugal markets. Carefully track your current ranking information and follow any changes.
-
Create some buzz about this change. Put a positive spin on it (i.e. "to serve you better...") and contact those who have links to your existing French and Portuguese sites and see if they would be willing to update the links to your new site. Either way, you should focus on obtaining new links which are local for those respective countries.
-
map over as many individual pages as possible. Depending on your system, this can be a lot of work. It is worth it for the best user experience and your rankings. Don't just dump users on your new home page and expect them to find items.
Good luck.

Wordpress SEO/Tag plugin recommendation for sports (soccer) website
I own a Wordpress website which covers soccer in the DC MD VA area called DMV Soccer http://www.dmvsoccer.com/ We write weekly recaps where we tag a player who has scored a goal or performed well in a game. For each player, obviously, a tag is created. What I'm looking for is a plugin or solution that would allow me to tag a player, but also automatically assign a team to that player so that the team name and player's name are optimized on the individual player's tag page. So if I were to tag George Murphy on a recap, and I assign him to a team, let's say DC United. The tag page would have a title, something like: George Murphy Soccer Player for DC United and the meta description: George Murphy, soccer player from MD who players for DC United archives Or something similar, if that makes sense. Should I skip using tags and instead start assigning each player as a sub-category under each team? I'd like to try to avoid that, because not each category will be based on a player. Any suggestions in terms of existing plugins or other recommendations?

Would iFrames From a Beta3 Help the SEO Value of Domain?
What I understand as of now: Google does crawl iframes, but attributes the SEO value of the content within them to their original site. (Let me know if I'm mistaken.) What I need to know: If I were to iframe a section of a beta3.domainname.com site into a domainname.com site, does this beta3 attribute any SEO value to the domainname.com site? Essentially - Does good content on a from a beta3.domainname.com (which is mainly just a naked piece of content) bring any benefit to the domainname.com version of the site when it is iframed into the domainname.com site?

‘80-90% of SEO already done for you in Wordpress’ Am I missing something?
Hi there, I’m looking for some feedback on a statement made on my Facebook Page re Wordpress and SEO. Please understand I wouldn’t class myself as an expert but I am competent and achieve satisfactory results for clients, more so since becoming a SEOmoz Pro user, I’ve just had some great results for a client using SEOmoz guidelines in ‘On Page SEO Reports’ thank you very much! A comment however made on my FB page has got my interest…. “as you (kn)no(w) google loves WP and will get listed quicker as 80 to 90% of your SEO is already done” Does Wordpress (or Joomla for that matter mentioned in the same conversation) have some SEO advantages that Google loves as the poster would have me believe, can I save time and effort working in word press from an SEO point of view? I use the age old techniques of targeting key phrases and words and distributing them accordingly. Creating internal link structures with ‘key worded anchor text’ etc before embarking on any off page SEO. Do any of you vastly experienced (in comparison to me) SEO folk have any insight into what this statement refers to? I did not gather any references to SEO advantages in Wordpress or Joomla in the Enge and Fishkin et al book The Art of SEO, or any of the other books I’ve read, to develop my knowledge on SEO for the benefit of my clients and of course my pocket. Home page redirect - will this cause an SEO problem
Hello, We are using Wordpress to build a wiki site. The wiki plugin we're using (Wordpress Wiki lite) can only be set up on an internal page like nlpwiki(dot)org/wiki Can we redirect the home page to the /wiki subdirectory and use nlpwiki(dot)org/wiki as our home page? I've never done that, just wondering if it will be indexed as the home page or if there are any connonical issues. Thanks!

Does disabling the "View Source" functionality prevent Google from crawling a website?
I know Google uses a lot of variables when crawling a website. I wasn't sure if disabling the "View Source" option hindered anything.

How WP Themes work with Navigation Structure for SEO and JQuery Headers?
I am trying to find the best WP Theme for our company. I noticed most of them do not offer a left hand side navigation on the home pages, and usually are on the right side on the inside pages. I always thought that Home Page links were very important for SEO. Currenly we have a left drop down navigation with all of our product catagories, keyword optimized. The structure follows for all the pages. Is this not as important to Search Engines anymore? Is it better to have a products link, to all the products and then the inside pages, have just a navigation bar, for that particular catagory? This seems to be very common on all the templates i am seeing. I also noticed, and really like the JQueary Tabs. I would use this for displaying, PDFs and Specifications Charts. Also, some home page images are using a jquery slider with some text, linking to a page. Is Jquery the new javascript and do search engines see what is in the code? I also noticed they all have footers that have links and some other information. Is this a SEO must have?

Best Wordpress Hosting
I've had a horrible experience with the security on wordpress hosting with GoDaddy. Someone recommended Blue Host as my next option. Does anyone have any experience with BlueHost and what other hosting companies would you recommend for wordpress hosting?
