New Links in Old Articles

We have recently launched a new website for a brand that always existed in our company, but never had its own website.
Now I'm looking to increase it's organic visibility. We had quite a few links coming into our other sites, when in fact they would be more relevant to our new site. The only things is I found a really good one from 2012 - what would be your thoughts on asking the author to change the link? How would Google view? Would I damage the organic visibility of the site it is currently linking to?

Hello Brian,
There would be two issues at play here, your original thought to update the link would be a good idea for the new website. A link on an established website with domain and trust authority is a great link.
The issue of hurting your existing website is also a factor. Depending on how many links the existing website has, if it were to lose one of its best back links, that could affect the existing website. If its only 1 out of hundreds or thousands I would not worry too much. I would do a complete review of the back links to the existing website to determine if I would request the change. Based on number of links from high PA web pages.
In the eyes of Google, I would think that if you updated an old link to a new more relevant link - that would be seen as a good thing not bad in any way.

Does Dofollow links from forumn profiles, blog comments, business directories or article directories etc have any impact?
Hi guys, So looking at my competitors in my city a lot of the people ranking on 2nd, 3rd pages and so forth have little or no quality backlinks, instead, their links are all from business directories, forum profiles and blog comments. I saw google employees saying easy to create links hold very little value and it's easy for the algorithm to distinguish been easy to obtain backlinks and difficult ones. From what I see on my competition backlink profiles, they may not get them to the front page but they do get them to pages, two three and four. I was wondering if creating say 20-30 easy links per week and also focus on obtaining high-quality backlinks. Would they be any penalties for 20-30 easy to make links a week from Google? Cheers

Value of Links? What is each link worth?
Morning Everyone, I just had this thought and wondered what everyone's opinions were in terms of link value in monetary terms. We'll assume for the purposes of this that the links come from contextually relevant sites and that the sites in question have got the Moz DA from being high quality and have a good quality incoming link profile. Its a bit of a theoretical question, but i guess imagine if the only way you could get links was to pay for them, what would they be worth to you. This is link value for SEO purposes, they will have in addition value from traffic from good sites, that no doubt varies wildly depending on topic. I assume everyone also agrees on: The first link from a domain is the most valuable High DA sites are worth more than low ones. So could anyone who has an opinion on the link value suggest a monetary value for links. Its really just using a monetary amount to see how best to target my time. Here is my example of what might be expected, but I am hoping people with more knowledge will perhaps correct it. Subdomain links vs root domain links? Are the less valuable?
I am determining the value of links we get. Is a link on a subdomain less valuable vs one on the root domain? How less valuable would you consider a subdomain link? For example blog.site.com vs site.com/blog What other metrics would you take into consideration for the value of a subdomain link?

Article linking to my post kicks it from the search results.
Hi I have been trying to get a article to rank on the term: "help your child do well in school" in the Google UK. Now I was doing okay the article went from 43rd to 17th. Until I got mentioned in the huffington post. Then my result disappeared from the listings and the huffington appeared in 35th position. The article I'm trying to rank is: http://www.schoolguide.co.uk/blog/10-proven-ways-to-help-your-child-do-well-at-school The Huffington posts is: http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/emilyjane-clark/five-things-that-will-not_b_5693827.html It's really annoying because this is the type of link building I thought Google really wants. Does anyone know why this would happen and any suggestions of how to proceed?

Link Targets
What do you think of getting links from... high quality sites, with many non spammy high trusted links to them....but their traffic has been majorly hit by panda. I suspect perhaps for having too many thin pages. Is persuing links on these sites a good idea or not? I'd welcome opinions.

Internal Linking - 100 plus links
Hi Everyone, I have a question of how the on-page links are being counted. Say you have a page with a warning of having too many on page links (100+). How are all of these links counted? Let's say there are only 5 links on that page. Do the links on each of those pages count too and so on and so forth? I just want to make sure I have wrapped my head around this correctly. Thanks!

Press release site for posting article and get links, what do you think?
If find sites like: http://eon.businesswire.com/portal/site/eon/ and http://www.free-press-release.com/ where you have to pay to post article, they have very good domain autority, what is your advice on those site? eon.businesswire.com/ is asking 225$ for a lifetime registration but they have a DA of 91, is this a good investement for building incoming links and increasing DA?
