Updated page not ranking.

Hi Guys. Bit flummoxed by this.
I've recently updated our Mid year diaries page to be this years mid year products. i.e) Diaries that go from 2015-16 not 2014-15.
Last year we rank really well for the search term 'mid year diaries 14-15'. All i've done is update the page to be focused on 2015-16 diaries, but when i type in 'mid year diaries 15-16' it's no where to be seen in the SERP. Even our home page is ranking higher! I'm really puzzled about this, nothings changed apart from the year!
The only reason I can think of is that Google is reading the file name of the images which are related to lasts years products? For example the file name might say mid year diary 2014-15. Do you think this is what's effecting us? Very puzzling

Thank you for your response. There is clearly some great advice which I will apply.
However, it's just popped up on the top page for 'mid year diaries 15-16'.
Panic over But it's great that we have some other things we can now apply to the page. Thank you very much

You say that you only changed the date, but I assume that means the URL as well. Is the 14-15 page gone? If so, have you set up 301 redirects to the new URL, or is it returning a 404 error? If the page is gone, you'll need to set up 301 redirects to the new page. Otherwise, you'll lose any value from backlinks to the old page. This will also eliminate the duplicate content issue.
If the page is archived on the site, you have a duplicate content problem. Either revamp the new content or set up a canonical tag on the old page pointing to the new one.
I would also go ahead and update the image filenames to reflect the current year as well as the meta description, as previously mentioned.
If you don't plan to archive the product page for past years, set up a generic URL so that it doesn't change from year. Leave off the "-15-16." Change the meta and on-page content as needed, including image filenames, but keep the same URL. That way you won't ever lose value from backlinks.
I would also revisit the content each year to freshen it up.

I agree, Google is constantly evolving and becoming stricter on what it considers acceptable content. You should be looking to constantly improve your website in line with the evolving best practices and Google Algorithm updates.

First, it's important to note that you can never expect the same results year-over-year for a page that's similar to a previous one. You need to take into account competition, algorithm changes, etc.
One glaring issue I find on this page is that you have almost no unique text. Google looks very unfavorably on pages that have little content; your page only has about 100 words. I strongly suggest writing more about the product; what it's made of, it's dimensions, history, anything.
After inspecting the code, I see that your meta-description wasn't updated. It starts "Find your perfect mid-year diary 14-15 with TOAD." - but should ready 15-16, no?
Fixing these things may not reap the benefits you're looking for, but they're certainly a start. Good luck!

Unsolved Should I combine pages?
Hi, Im not sure of the correct route to take here... We are a training provider and I manage the website. The main course offered is the transport manager CPC. Currently, I have a "catch all" landing page which links to each different course option: Landing page > Classroom Online Self study Distance learning The main keyword revolves around "transport manager cpc" I want searchers to land on the online page is they search "online transport manager CPC" for example but I think its confusing Google. I'm wondering if I should de-index the store pages (although some perform very well) and increase the content on the main landing page to rank for every related keyword on that page. Initially, I wanted to devalue the landing page in favor of the store pages but I'm unsure if that's the right way to go. I've stripped out the bulk of the keywords and content and shifted it to each individual page. but as above, Im now unsure if that's the right route to take. Any help would be greatly appreciated 👍 Thanks

Landing Page Idea
I have an Insurance Agency and I'm working on new landing pages to hit our surrounding cities. my 1st question is: On my Homeowners Insurance Page, can I add a section for Area's We Insure. To look like this Area's We Insure Allen Plano Frisco McKinney Highland Park Then make each one linkable to it's City Landing Page? Is there any reason this would hurt my seo? 2nd Question: Can I have the City Pages hidden from my navigation- as I already have a huge drop down menu already. Is it better to have an hreflang go to the home page in a different language if there's no corresponding page
If I have some pages in English, but not in Spanish on my website: Should my hreflang go to the home page on the Spanish site? Or should I not have an "es-MX" hreflang for that page? Ideally I would have all the pages translated, but this has not all been done yet.

"City page" links in footer of home page: Spammy?
Is listing a bunch of links to city pages in the footer of a home page considered "spammy" to Google? (ie- Chicago Alarms, Illinois Alarms, Naperville Alarms, etc.) What are the negative affects this might have on ranking, if any?

Links to Product pages
Hello all, I am still rather new to SEO and learning a lot every day. I do have a question. On our product search result pages (example http://shop.ferguson.com/search/bathroom-lighting)

It is currently set up so the image, text, price etc of a product is linking to that product page. Our question is, if we were to link the image and the product name - will this be seen as two links to the same page? Is this a bad thing having multiple links to the same page? I searched around to see how other ecommerce sites have similar pages setup and it seems they link the image and also the product name, and the description is not click-able, which allows a user to "Highlight" the text (this is not possible on ours) Which would be to correct approach for SEO as well as User Interface, the way we have it set up, or by going with the method of the question I asked, Thank you for any information on this! Some of my pages are ranking for terms which I want other pages to rank for. What can I do to effectively switch the ranking?
Some of the pages are ranking for terms I have optimised other pages for. The pages which are ranking are quite rightly falling, because they aren't optimised for the terms they're showing for. However, I have pages which are optomised for those terms. How do I switch the SERPS to the page I want?
