Deal that expire what should i do?
-
Hey there Awesome team of Webmaster Forums,
Lets assume that I have a page that have deals in it. Those deals after a certain period of time expire. What should I do with the expired pages? My opinion is this. The page keeps the same URL but inside there is a content saying "Sorry but this deal has expired .... "and have some relevant deals beneath ORRedirect to a universal expired page. Kind Regards
-
Thanks mate. That was a very informative answer.
It's not that I am making some hand made items as the example of Matt was but I have a very small amount of deals that come and go every now and then.
I will not redirect or give a 404. I think that I will keep the page but explain that the deal is over and that there are more deals relevant to this one.
Forcible redirecting in my opinion is the worst in every situation except if the intent of the next page is Exactly the same as the previous which 99% of the times is not.
404 could be ok but the deals i offer are hard won and i dont want the traffic to just go into a 404 wall.
Adding the relevant deals seems like the best way to go.
Thanks again

Hi there
Here's a great resource from Matt Cutts on the subject. I like the idea of redirecting to a relevant page/category or creating a 404 page that assists the user in finding something related or gives them an opportunity to be notified when the offer/product is back.
You should also update internal links and your sitemap links so that this page isn't being constantly crawled if the offer is over and done, and not coming back.
Hope this helps! Good luck!

How to deal with duplicate pages on Shopify
Moz is alerting me that there's about 60 duplicate pages on my Shopify ecommerce site. Most of them are products. I'm not sure how to fix this since the coding for my site is in liquid. I'm not sure if this is something I even need to be worried about. Most of these duplicate pages are a result of product tags shopify sites use to group products you tag with characteristics that the user can select in the product view. here are a couple URLS: https://www.mamadoux.com/collections/all/hooded https://www.mamadoux.com/collections/all/jumpers https://www.mamadoux.com/collections/all/menswear

Expired domain 404 crawl error
I recently purchased a Expired domain from auction and after I started my new site on it, I am noticing 500+ "not found" errors in Google Webmaster Tools, which are generating from the previous owner's contents.Should I use a redirection plugin to redirect those non-exist posts to any new post(s) of my site? or I should use a 301 redirect? or I should leave them just as it is without taking further action? Please advise.

What is the best way to deal with an event calendar
I have an event calendar that has multiple repeating items into the future. They are classes that typically all have the same titles but will occasionally have different information. I don't know what is the best way to deal with them and am open to suggestions. Currently Moz anayltics is showing multiple errors (duplicate page titles, descriptions and overly dynamic urls). I'm assuming that it's showing duplicate elements way into the future. I thought of having the calendar no followed at all but the content for the classes seems valuable. Thanks,

Dealing with Dead Pages on an Ecommerce Site
Hello everyone! I'm working on a project for a small jewelry store. They have a store in North Carolina and an ecommerce site (on Shopify - which I loathe!). I'm not exactly an SEO expert, but the client likes the way I handle social media and I know enough to get them much farther down the road than they are now. The big problem is that most everything sold is handmade and one of a kind. So, the site has LOTS of dead links. I'd love everyone's suggestions on how to: Best avoid this in the first place as new products are added and promoted via Facebook, Twitter, blog posts and so on Suggestions for managing the sold items - I don't think it seems wise to leave them up as "SOLD" The site is http://www.laurajamesjewelry.com I'm grateful for your assistance! And look forward to sharpening my SEO skills. ~Robin

Dealing with PDFs?
Hello fellow mozzers! One of our clients does an excellent job of providing excellent content, and we don't even have to nag them about it (imagine that!). This content is usually centered around industry reports, financial analyses, and economic forcasts; however, they always post them in the form of pdfs. How does Google view PDF's, and is there a way to optimize them? Ideally, I am going to try to get this client set up with a blog-like plateform that will use HTML text, rather than PDF's, but I wanted to see what info was out there for PDF's. Thanks!
