Alt tag using photoshop
-
Simple question i think. Ive started adding alt tags to images using the slice tool in photoshop. This takes up a menu were the last part of is alt tag:
This way to add alt tags does work right? I used SEO-browser afterwards and couldnt see the tag. There are maybe other better ways to see if your tags are in there ?

<dt>Settings: Quality is 100, Non-Progressive, Optimized on</dt>
</dl>
`<title>smÂfolk-barneklÊr-gensertraktor</title> ` ```eh and as you see there are some norwegian letters in there.. -
Spot on - thanks. Ive just been adding the alt text saving it the regular way. I just have to use save for web devices and specify.

Thanks. So I actuallyhave to consider file name of image, title text of image and alt text.
The website we are using is delivered from a company - so quite some of the coding etc isnt accessible by me. I am just adding the picture and text. So my way to do this i guess have to be to 'mark' the image with the necessary info before uploading it to the site.
I think i use title text. When clicking image on our website that takes you to the product page where there is a description of the product or image. At least when i use seo-browser part of this product info seems to be applied to the picture but not in full (eg when I profile a product image on home page) there is a part of this product info shown when opening source of homepage.
EDIT: I might have to talk to my webshop provider. My basic knowledge is a bit sparse but it isnt possible to add HTML to an image file eg .jpg and still keep it in an image file format ? What i do basically in our webshop is to upload the image in the 'right' folder and then add the image text. This is done for maybe 70-100 products 2-3 times a year. Adding it in the code isnt available to me and doesnt seem like an option with this volume ?
Anyone have any ideas ?
This is the website if its any help: http://epleskrinet.no/

This feature is a little confusing. Alt text is an attribute of the img tag in HTML, so this would normally be outside the realm of photoshop. To use the photoshop alt text feature, you need to export the HTML for the image when you're saving it.
See http://www.adobe.com/accessibility/products/photoshop/images.html under the heading "Exporting HTML from photoshop".
Once you've exported the html, you can paste it into your html document. To me, its all much more complicated than simply typing out < img src="myimage.jpg" alt="My alt text" / > but that may be due to my technical background.
-
Also, you might consider adding title text as well to your images. Here's a Search Engine Journal post about it. The title is less important for SEO, but can enhance the experience users.

If you view the source of your page (hitting cntl +u should do this), and find the image on the page, it should have an alt attribute on it. For example:

Is using a H1 tag in a logo image bad for SEO?
We have brand logos on certain pages that have H1 tags in them - the H1 text being the brand's name, as this is what we'd want the title of the page to be. The logos are at the top of the page instead of a written title. But is this the best option for SEO? Do search engines value H1 tags in images as highly as a standard H1 tag?Would it be better for SEO to add an alt tag to the logo and add a separate H1 tag on the page that's also the name of the brand?

Commas in title tags
Hello Guys, Thanks in advance for all who can help me with this I am helping a dinnerware company with their SEO. I told them to change their ambiguous title tags for more specific ones. However, they opted to create some title tags with 2 or three keywords separated by commas. I have attached an excel image illustrating their new title tags.. My question is, will this format be a problem with Google--penalties? The questionable title tags are highlighted in light orange. Thanks! lHH92

Best Way to Use Date in Title
Hi, I do most of the current copy for our blog which you can find here http://appointedd.com/blog/ I believe having a regular blog structure with a mix of irregular ad hoc posts to go in around these. So, for this blog, I write an article on "Beauty Industry News" every week. Now, I don't want to use the same title for each post, so I've peen butting in the date after each one i.e. "Beauty Industry News - 24/04/13". Is this best practice or is there a better way of naming regular posts? Thanks in advance!

Duplicate Title and Meta Description Tags in Shopify with this App
Hello. I'm finding that by adding the Ultra SEO app in Shopify, I now have duplicates of the Title tags and Meta Descriptions. It looks like it's pulling title tags from the Shop info, the product or page titles as well as the Title tag I add in Ultra SEO. The website is 1bigcookie.com. The duplicate meta descriptions are from the text I entered in the meta description field in Ultra SEO. I entered the canonical url code shopify specifies to help with duplicate content, but what about duplicate title and meta description tags on the same page?

H1 tag in the footer?
Quick question: I have been scouring SEOMoz.org along with webmaster forums looking for an answer, but we have a person who insists that the H1 tag be located in the Footer. I feel that is is fundamentally wrong because it is not the intent of the H1 tag, and I do not believe it is a best practice. That being said would we see what little value the H1 tag has disappear if we put it in the footer, would we be penalized, or am I being too vanilla by wanting to keep it in the Title position?

Are Amazon meta tags efficient?
We are probably all familiar with general and Google guidelines for writing title and description tags. But Amazon. com often create another structure where they put in a) amazon.com, b) product name or description and c) the Amazon category the product is featured in, like this: | Amazon.com: Mac Motion Chairs Model 2-Piece Recliner with Matching Ottoman Mocha Microfiber with Walnut Frame: Home & Garden Is this a well developed description tag? |
