Yelp hides my reviews
-
Hello,
This is pretty frustrating. This is the third time Yelp has hidden a review for my business. I don't know why. I am trying to get lots of reviews on different platforms but I feel at the mercy of Yelp as they decide what to show and what not. I think it was triggered when I actually replied to the reviewer on Yelp. I should have done nothing I think. Any hints or reasons why this might be happening?

I completely get it. It's frustrating. Though, I get lots of leads from Yelp because of the time I've invested in making it work for me, so I find the frustration mainly worthwhile.
I teach Yelp classes for business here in Sacramento. I tell them "Yelp is like a report card, you're getting a grade whether you like it or not. If you want an A+, you have to do the Extra Credit work."

Thanks for your answers. It seems bizarre that there are so many hoops to jump to post a visible review. I understand that it could be opened up for spam but at the same time it is hard enough to get a review sometimes and my clients won't be spending time writing loads on Yelp- Facebook yes- but not Yelp. So I guess I just have to hope!

Yelp's terms of service prohibit you from asking your customers to write you a good review.
When you ask someone to write a yelp review and they're not yet a yelper, yelp will hide their review.
If you want to ask for a review you have to teach the client how it works. First they get an account, upload their photo, connect with their Facebook friends and write themselves a funny bio. Then they write several reviews over the course of a month or so. Then they write one for you.
I know that you don't like this, but Yelp has their own game.

Hi There!
The most common reason for this would be that the Yelp users who have left the reviews are not yet established enough in Yelp's system to have their reviews shown. Yelp has the most stringent quality filters in the review world. Check out the profiles of the people who have reviewed you. If they have left few reviews, this would likely be the answer as to why their reviews are being filtered out.
The other thing to consider would be whether you are falling outside of Yelp's guidelines in any way. For example, Yelp is very insistent that they don't want owners to ask for reviews. Would there be anything in your strategy that might be falling afoul of this guideline?

You are not alone. We have a wedding and photography business and Yelp constantly hides our reviews as well, all real customers. Just focus on Google or whatever platform your customer base uses most. They have been doing this for years so don't feel singled out.
I was thinking a good experiment to do on yelp would be to advertise on there and see how many reviews, that are currently hidden, would pop up magically once you started paying.
Just write them off and focus your efforts elsewhere; fighting with them gets you no where.

I have written a number of business reviews for yelp and have done a good job of it with photos, generous descriptions, etc.
But, yelp often does not show them. When I first started writing reviews they never showed them. Then, after I had written a couple dozen a few of my reviews began appearing without digging for them.
From what I can see yelp shows the reviews of people who have written a lot of reviews, who are connected with other yelp members, and who have written lots of reviews that have been favorably received by others. If your reviewers are not hard core yelpers, a lot of those reviews will be buried.

How to make Google show reviews from Facebook and Google My Business?
I wonder if there is anything I can do to increase the chance that Google shows stars that indicate the average score of our reviews from Facebook or Google MyBusiness for the keywords where we rank nr. 1, for instance our brand name?

How to Remove Online-Only / B2B Yelp Listing
I advise a regional company on their online marketing efforts. They provide a service across a very large area, and they only have one corporate office. Their product is purchased online, and there is no face-to-face interaction with customers. Customers do not conduct business at their corporate office. Yelp says they are primarily intended for the review of local businesses and their guidelines for adding a business state that they are "l__ess interested in showing online-only, business-to-business (b2b), and direct-seller businesses" and that "if a business page you add is not eligible to be listed on Yelp, it will not be part of our directory". Our business doesn't meet this criteria. So my question is how I would go about requesting that our Yelp remove our listing due to ineligibility? I found an article on Whitespark that discusses this topic and they show some clear examples of online-only businesses that had their Yelp listings removed. Unfortunately, that article doesn't offer an insight on how to go about the process of requesting/triggering removal. Does anyone have experience on how to go about this? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Reviews and Propogating
Hi, I am wondering about the best way to ask a customer for reviews. I've read in articles back in 2016 that Google my places reviews will often show reviews from facebook page if they are linked together appropriately. Is this still true? Does anyone know additionally of other sites that do this ?

Google Reviews & Third Party Reviews
Hi We have a third party review provider, but were also looking at increasing our Google reviews. However after more research, should Google reviews only be used on local listings? For organisations which don't have a physical location to buy from - is the solution to use organisation schema, which incorporates 'reviews on other sites' with the hope Google may show your Feefo review count? When checking similar companies - all seem to have the organisation knowledge card and not the local Google My Business listing. Is it worth pursuing extra reviews on Google My Business or not? Thanks!

Do people receive notifications when you respond to their Google reviews?
If someone leaves a review of your business on your Google My Business listing, and you respond to that review, will they receive an email notification of your response to their review? We are working with a client who has unanswered reviews from several years ago, and though it's best practice to respond to all reviews, we didn't want to respond to reviews from 2013 if the person (who has likely forgot about their experience with the business in question) is going to get an email notifying them of our late response to their review. Thank you!

Adding Google Reviews to Testimonials Page
Can anyone verify if it is allowable to add Google reviews to your testimonials page? I know you can't use schema on these reviews. If it is allowable, should these be images so that they don't get indexed and flag duplicate content? Thank you in advance for your help. Rita

Having Yelp Reviews Removed
Since we all work with Yelp on a local basis, I believe many are aware that if a review is placed by a non customer about a company, Yelp will typically remove them if you show that it isn't valid, etc. We all know they made a show of outing those who posted fake reviews as well. Here is a question I have though: Have any of you been aware of Yelp taking down valid negative reviews for companies? I have just run into this and find it somewhat perplexing. If you know of this, I would love to hear how it happens? Thanks,
