Why does my lousy little blog Rank number 1 on Google?
-
Search "Google Places Changes."
My Blog, www.salesjumpstart.net/blog is ranked first. Has been for a week. Why? Makes no sense. I have been getting many first page Google results for 3 and 4 word keyword searches. The site or Blog just isn't that strong.

Interesting. However, as Ryan points out you still have perhaps the best content, and only slightly below Google for "change" - nice work.

Chnage the Title to "change" from "changes". Now ranked 2nd for Change, and 5th for changes.

Thanks Boulder! I used the browser in Natural search, so it shows what the national results are.
I just changed the title to the singular to see if that changes the ranking.

Thanks Ryan... right on the Mark n this one. The site does well in Bing and Yahoo, I just think it takes them (it) a while longer to get the individual pages index. I will add and see. You are truly one of the Guru's on here.

After checking the various SEO factors there is one glaring difference between your page and 8 of the other 9 results on the first page.
Your page is one of only two results that actually uses the phrase in your content.
The only other page to do so is the YouTube result who's total content is 3 sentences. I am willing to be if the YouTube result offered a transcript, it would outrank your page.
I checked Bing/Yahoo. Your site is indexed in both of their results but the page is not. It would be interesting to see if you submitted the page to Bing in WMT how it would ultimately rank.

Good long authoritative sounding post and showed for me as I'm in Boulder and you are in Denver - have you tried searches from other geo proxies?
A couple other things to consider:
-
Google loves fresh content - as long as the article keeps getting traffic/attention it will stay, update us in another 30 days
-
You do rank for "google places changes", but are no where for "google places change" so it is all about the long tail as I'm sure you know....

-
That particular page has a pagerank of 2 and I would believe a few links. Good post by the way.

Google won't index my website because "certain conditions" weren't met
I found the answer on this -- interestingly, I had changed registrars and they didn't pull over the DNS information correctly. This caused the above issues. Once I identified this, I updated the DNS correctly -- at registrar and server -- and things worked fine.

Blog on domain or sub-domain
Hi, I am looking to incorporate a blog that currently sits on another domain into my site. I am not sure whether to do this as part of my domain or as a sub-domain e.g. mydomain.com.au/blog blog.mydomain.com.au I can see the benefits from an SEO perspective for both but just wanted some advice on the best way to go.

Should a business blog be on a separate site or on the ecommerce site itself?
Hey there. I'm a new Pro member and this will be my first question on the Q&A. Thanks in advance for your responses. I'm the owner of an ecommerce site that sells custom candles. www.prometheancandle.com in case anyone wants to take a peak. I've become somewhat of an expert on all-things-candles over the past 4 years and I am thinking about starting a candle related blog. My question is this. Should I build this blog on the ecommerce site itself, say @ www.prometheancandle.com/blog.php, or should I devote a separate site to answering candle related question, history of candles, etc? At first, I was thinking that the blog should remain on the ecommerce site so readers would have easy access to the shop to be able to purchase products. But then it occurred to me that people who may be interested in reading up on candle history, candle making, meditation & candles, etc., may not want to go to an obviously ecommerce site to do that. I know Google values informational sites more than ecommerce sites (at least I think they do), so that encourages me to lean towards the separate site. Well, I may have just answered this question myself, but I'd definitely be interested to hear feedback and opinions. Thanks so much guys and I look forward to hearing from you.

Best Way to Manage Multiple Blogs
Good Morning... I have multiple blogs that all relate to the same industry and products... The blogs all have unique content, they do not have duplicate content... Is there a way to share the information or link from one to the other without being seen as someone trying to manipulate anything? The goal is to keep each blog updated frequently, but I can only write so much unique content... can i somehow share the content? Please provide any feedback or advice... Thanks

How Google judge about duplicate content?
With recent Search engines updates one thing is clear we cannot ignore content. Content marketing definitely going to be most important part of our SEO strategy. I have few doubts about content marketing (circulation of content over web) where I want suggestions of community members. There would be different thoughts so I would like to have as many as responses to know what majority thinks: When we are writing guest posts, does article needs to be unique with each and every blog we are writing or we can safely circulate one good piece of content to 10-15 blogs who are interested in our creative. We have written a good blog post for our own domain. Apart from social sharing should it be posted to other related blogs too or it should be unique to our domain only. Social sharing, mentions, like of blog matters in rankings?Seems yes they do but need to know what majority thinks. Finally what is the safe number to circulate your content over web.

What are you doing to convert blog readers to inquiries/leads?
I'm curious what tactics people are finding successful in converting readers into leads, inquiries, or sales. Anyone feel like sharing?
