Frustrated With Trying to Validate Business Ideas
-
Hi Everyone, thanks for having me, glad to be here.
So...
Basically, in trying to validate business ideas by looking at search data... I don't understand how the results could be what they are.
Ok to be more specific, I wanted to create a course about hit songwriting and music production... I've seen books on Songwriting with 200 - 500 reviews on Amazon, and I've seen some websites that have digital products even more niched down than this, who seem to be doing VERY well.
The search data on the other hand, says that most songwriting / music production related searches are quite low. Like Songwriting might be really high, but then it's a steep drop off after that. Additionally; looking at SimilarWeb at those 'competitors' I was looking at... they're getting lots of organic traffic but they don't rank for any obvious songwriting / production words...
Like the search is telling me: Nobody wants to learn songwriting ... nobody wants to learn music production.. the search data implies I'd be wasting my time making anything like that.
And yet...how can this be true? There are literally schools where people learn songwriting and music production, and so how is nobody searching out this stuff? What's happening here? Any ideas?
Just confused. . interested what you guys think.

That's an interesting question - if you have examples of some of the secondary keywords you're looking at, that would be helpful for comparison.
There's a few things I would recommend.
The first is rather than guessing or trying to search for the right keyword, analyze competitor domains or specific competitor URLs to see what they rank for. For example, here are 400+ keywords that https://www.coursera.org/learn/songwriting-lyrics is ranking for. That number of overall keywords will typically make up for low volume on some of them.
The second thing is that lots of long tail searches, when combined, can produce meaningful traffic. So it is often worth testing out publishing a page on a keyword and seeing what type of traffic occurs naturally over 3-`12 months. 10 people who really really want a $10 or $100 solution to a problem and more valuable than 1,000 people not interested in buying anything.
The third thing is that sometimes people aren't searching for a product, but, if you rank for another term they're interested in, you can make some sales by giving them something worth buying. "how to write a song" has 11.5k-30.3k searches per month - I'm not certain you can make 500 sales off of those types of volume ranges, but, you might be able to make 10-50 when you rank for a big head term, or lots of longer tail terms. This "rank for other stuff and then sell our product" approach may be what is working well for the competitors you mentioned.
Finally - consider other types of queries that might make sense - 'music production classes" instead of "learn music productin online", for instance.

Massive unexplained organic traffic drop; disappeared from Google
Hi there,
Search Behavior | | katelynroberts
Our site has experienced a huge organic traffic drop, specifically from Google. The drop occurred on Feb 19 and I've got no clue why it happened. We have not made any significant changes to the website and it doesn't look like there was an algorithm update last week. We don't have any Google penalties or indexing issues noted, and the drop isn't specific to any particular segment/region/keyword. What am I missing? Any advice or insight is super duper appreciated. Our site is a Wordpress/WooCommerice e-commerce site with a blog and long-standing #1 ranks for keywords related to our main product offering. Screen Shot 2024-02-26 at 3.12.25 PM.png

GA traffic locations must be wrong? Most hits from a state we don't do business in!
I launched a website earlier this year. Very limited traffic, 200-300 a month. It is an info site for a specialized business. However, when I review my GA traffic reports, 20% of our traffic comes from one city in Virginia. (although the company does business in many states, it does not in Virginia) or anything close. The bounce rate is 97%! Could it be a web scraper or some kind of redirect?

Google Capital - Antitrust Conspiracy
I think we all have heard about Thumbtack breaking the rules w/ badges. Getting deindexed, then getting a 100M injection from Google capital and having the penalties removed: https://techcrunch.com/2014/08/20/service-marketplace-thumbtack-raises-100m-round-led-by-google-capital/ Our primary competitor is a different marketplace backed by Google Capital. Does anyone know of any low frequency products (reliant on SEO) backed Google Capital that has not won out within search? (i.e. is there any hope of competing against a low frequency marketplace after they have Google Capital backing?)

Ways to Identify Popular Search Terms
Certain searches seem intuitively like they would be popular, but don't appear so in my keyword research on Moz Pro. For example, I am a therapist and would have guessed that a lot of people would be searching for "online therapy California" during this pandemic, but actually those terms are not popular. I looked at Google Trends to see if I could understand this better, but It wasn't very helpful. Any other suggestions for where to get more information when search terms you would expect to be high volume don't appear to be so?

Google not giving ranking to the intended page of my website.
Hello friends, This is my very first question, I hope I will explain my issue correctly. I have created two pages related to SSC CGL keyword on my website: https://www.ibtindia.com/ssc-cgl-notification-exam-date 2) https://www.ibtindia.com/ssc-cgl-apply-online I want to target the keyword SSC CGL Apply Online on the 2nd URL but Google is only considering the 1st page for all the "apply" related keywords as well. Can anyone suggest to me how to get the second page in rankings for its intended keywords? I will be very thankful for this help. I tried adding image but its showing dummy. Please you can check it op GOOGLE SERP Second page

Correct approach to a business website with separate content for personal and business customers
I'm laying the groundwork for a fairly involved website. The website is for a telco that caters to both residential and B2B. I was browsing the websites of the likes of Verizon, AT&T, Sprint & T-Mobile. What I saw is that they compartmentalize almost everything - all their business pages are in a business subdoman, all their investor info is in an investor subdomain and so-on. So I'm going implement this strategy on this website update. I just want to make sure that my idea makes sense and isn't a complete cluster****. I've attached a link to the mind map. Everything with "(sub)" attached to it is a subdomain. Everything else is a page at the root level of the top domain. Most of the visitors we get to the website are residential, so instead of loading a portal at first and asking if they're there for person or business reasons, I'm considering forwarding all visitors to the top-level domain to the personal.example.com site. Is this okay or would it be better to just keep the content in the top-level rather than forwarding all traffic to a subdomain? Thank you! 1JY7DWw

80% Bounce Rate.. Any ideas why?
I launched at the beginning of the year and get about 7k uniques a month with about 50 or so unique pages. (Just in case sample size is maybe an issue?) Anyhow, here is an example page, it has about 1200 uniques and a bounce rate of 90% http://winefolly.com/update/calories-in-wine/ Any ideas why? A lot of traffic comes from social media right when the post comes out, maybe they are looking and leaving?
