RE: Does Moz Analytics Allow for Goal Tracking?
I think this is a part of Moz that is weak. I think they need better integration with Goals for GA and Adobe Analytics.

RE: Bay Area E-Commerce SEO Firm Needed
Look no further than our beloved Mozzer Ryan Kent. http://moz.com/community/users/312503
He's the 2nd highest ranked user on Moz. I personally referred him some business. Tell him Francisco from Planet Marketing mentioned you.

RE: Hummingbird - Client took hit. Anyone else?
According to Barry Schwartz at Search Engine Roundtable http://www.seroundtable.com/google-hummingbird-17442.html, there was a Hummingbird update on August 24, 2013. On that exact day my client's visits started dropping. I looked at organic visits for sources Google, Bing, & Yahoo separately and only Google organic dropped.
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

Hummingbird - Client took hit. Anyone else?
I recently landed a client about 2 months ago. About 1 month ago organic started to go down. I'm not 100% sure it's Google hummingbird. Has anyone else looked at their GA or GWT and seen a decline?

RE: Changing IP adress of Website will impact on ranking or not?
I agree . The answer is no. Just make sure the server is not slow. Also remember that Magento is a heavy program and is slower than Wordpress and many other CMSs

RE: Best Approach to Get Backlinks for this site
I was going to suggest dinner where the phones aren't ringing and they don't have to answer emails.
That's what I do with my local clients. -
RE: Weekly Linkbuilding Task List
3 - Outreach x people.
Here's is where most companies need to focus. I feel that many people do not offer any value to webmasters whe conducting outreach. Every week I get approached with something like "Hi, I have some copy that's original content. " To me the's bs because I didn't ask for it and I know it's probably being re-spun. My link builder gets about 1 new domain that links to my client every day. It's a slow process, but what makes it more scalable is using a software like Buzzstream.
So I would encourage you to learn how to use Buzzstream effectively and to use Advanced search operators to make it easier. If you have any questions regrading buzzstream, PM me.
Also, WRITE SOME SUPER KICK ASS CONTENT PEOPLE WANT TO LINK TO

@moz staff Where does OSE get Facebook Share information?
When using OSE, where does it pull the Facebook data from? Open Graph? Like this? https://graph.facebook.com/http://www.moz.com
I am trying to find out because my URLs are coming in with completely different information: https://graph.facebook.com/http://www.discoverhawaiitours.com/to/discovertheroadtohana_21a.html
We are using the ShareThis plugin and I think it's not reporting the right info.

RE: Targeting City Geo-tags/Keywords for Clients with Multiple Locations
This is a tough question because we don't know the business objectives of the company or site. If it's one company and you are trying to get local listing, why not just get a Google + page and verify all your local pages via the post card Google sends through the mail.
If all locations sell different things (car parts vs women shoes), new domain or sub-domain. But if your client is selling the same thing like Starbucks, then example.com/city.
I would personally create a page with schema.org markup for addresses and link them to /city

RE: Any thoughts on how to reverse engineer a well-performing page?
Go to Google Analytics > Content > Site Content > Landing Pages. Filter for your URL (/botox-for-migraines-6-things-you-need-to-know/). Click the URL. Under "Primary Dimension" click "Keyword". There you will be able to see the KWs that are generating traffic to your specific landing page.
Under "Secondary Dimension" select "Medium". You will then be able to tell if it's organic, direct, referral, CPC.

RE: Html Improvements Missing title tags
We don't have a clue what the issue would be. You may want to see if you are using an SEO plugin for titles. Sometimes what happens with plugins is that the software is upgraded and then the plugin doesn't work. If it TITLES used to work and now they don't (nothing changed), then we have no idea. I suspect there was some change in your code.

RE: Sitemap do they get cleared when its a 404
I would run a test and create a URL example.com/test. Check to see if it's in the sitemap, then delete it and check to see if it dropped from the site map. It should, but you never know.

RE: Subdomains or subfolders for language specific sites?
You can go with either one. Your question is probably the number 1 asked question on Moz. LOL
I would do folders "if" creating a multi-lingual site. Let's take WordPress for example. 1 folder, 1 install, 2 languages, no multiple logins, 1 database.
For subdomains, there is no passing of PR. A subdomain is like having a brand new site. subdomain.example.com and example.com are completely different sites. The only reason I would run subdomains is if I am doing something where the "site search" algorithm will be tweaked a little... like craigslist.org. Every city has a subdomain and the algorithm may be just a little different. Maybe you may need a subdomain for security issues, but in general go with folders.
Also, the stronger example.com/english becomes, the more likely example.com/mandarin becomes. It shares link juice. This example doesn't happen when you use subdomains.
Hope that helps!

RE: Which rich snippets wordpress pluggin would you advice
There aren't very many schema.org WP Plugins. I looked everywhere for one that was good.
I agree with Thomas. Go with Raven Tool's free plugin Schema Creator http://wordpress.org/plugins/schema-creator/.
What would make that plugin better is if it had pagination. I know some of my pages are going to get 100 reviews, but can you imagine a page with 100 reviews on it with NO pagination? That's going to be one LONNNNGGGG page. In the near future I will probably have someone create one for me so it has the pagination feature kind of like expedia.

@staff When is Moz Analytics coming out?
I want to see a video demo or something for the new Moz Analytics.
When is the software going to be available for us subscribers?
-
RE: Why does it take weeks to gain Moz page authority?
Rogerbot doesn't crawl as fast as Googlebot. It takes about 3 weeks for Moz to update Mozscape. You cannot get that information faster because by the time MOZ crawls the webs AND processes the data, it takes a couple weeks.
Yes a page with PA 33 is more powerful than one with PA 1.
-
RE: All images are noindex will opening this at once be an issue?
I don't think anything will happen. You're conversion rate may drop because 20K images will now be available in image search. I remember once I started ranking for the keyword: car. I saw a big increase in organic, but a drop in conversions. Try to be careful how you label your images. Also, make annotation in GA so you can compare before and after.

RE: ISO Freelance SEOMOZ tutor or consultant for small online retailer
I am one of the smaller guys here (getting bigger though). When I have people call me with an HTML site, I normally prefer to move them to WordPress or Magento, if ecommerce. If all you need is on-site optimization, you're going to get a wide range of quotes. If you want your site to be all on WP and don't mind outsourcing, go to oDesk or PM and I'll put you in touch with one of my developers overseas.
HTML > Wordpress is completely different than an SEO. This all depends on how small/big your site is for both the move and SEO services. I'm just speaking from experience that the HTML sites I have worked with were a pain in the ass because of CSS issues. CMS is the way to go.

RE: Is the Authority of Individual Pages Diluted When You Add New Pages?
I wouldn't worry about adding 100 new pages. Go for it. You also have to think about the opportunity cost of not creating the additional 100 pages. You will probably be missing out on something. With that said, make sure that you are creating high quality pages because it helps your domain overall. And remember this is for the long-term. Whenever I launch a new page, it gets to the 2nd page fast. Within the next 6 months to 1 year it's normally on the 1st page.
-
RE: Which domain is better - a Long descriptive or Short Abbreviated?
I personally think both are hard to remember. It's been 30 seconds since I read your post and I already forgot the domain name. There are two things I would do. The 1st one is what Dana suggests to use your "current" brand if you have one. The second one, assuming the "current" brand is too difficult to remember, is to buy an EASY to remember brand.
I am PERSONALLY in the process of immigrating my wife so I am probably almost the perfect guy to ask.
My Google search here in San Diego would have been something like "San Diego immigration services", "San Diego immigration lawyer", "San Diego legal immigration". Any of those searches can be a brandable domain. Since these are probably taken, i would contact the owners of the websites using domaintools.com and doing a whois search. You can buy many domains for less than $1000. Other brandable domains would be weimmigrate.com, immigrationlawyers.com, legalimmigration.com, greencardservices.com (because that's what it's for, the green card), permanentresident.com, whatever.com.... you get what I'm saying.
Oh wait, you're not targeting "immigrants". You're targeting people who are migrating. So now I'm a little confused; migrating out of USA or into USA (backbutton, bye!).

RE: Url rewrite & 301 redirects
You would point like this using your .htaccess:
redirect 301 /index.php?l=product_list&c=1 http://www.yourdomain.com/banner-stands
redirect 301 /index.php?l=product_detail&c=1&p=1 http://www.yourdomain.com/banner-stands/banner-stand
the /index.php?l=product_list&c=1 is the old one that your want to 301 redirect.

RE: Domain Authority
Yes this can happen. Adding your listing to poor quality directories can bring your DA down. If you remove the directory listings from low quality websites, then your traffic may increase and your DA go up (assuming everything else is the same). Try it out and if your traffic drops, put the listings back in.

RE: The perfect team ???
LOL no problem! I do outsource to people in USA ESPECIALLY for content writing and some development.
I also like the in-person team environment. Your reply does not sound cheesy. I find that community is stronger in other states vs Southern California. Over here it seems that companies are not loyal to their employees or their families. Oer here it's all about the bottom line and keeping the most money in our pockets. I wish the community here was more like yours like Jacksonville, FL.
-
RE: The perfect team ???
I'll probably get big thumbs down for this, but this is what I have done.
UI Developer - this is a coder you can find on oDesk. I have my own guys. If you are going to be using a custom application (like a customized database driven site using ZEND or php), you might want to contract someone, then give them a monthly maintenance fee to handle bugs or upgrades.
Link Builder / Social Media - Use buzzstream. This is where I would spend the most money to get rankings. This is ONLY a part of marketing. Read this to get a better idea of what you need for tools: http://moz.com/ugc/13-social-media-software-tools-for-marketing-your-company-or-clients
P.S. I wrote it.
Graphic Design? - You don't need a full-time graphic designer. Even if you take the pictures in your warehouse, you can outsource the work to someone on oDesk using dropbox.
So as you can probably tell I outsource to other people, especially to my guys in Bangladesh. KEEP the programming in USA if it's a big project that requires someone to be there in person.

RE: Is there any negative SEO effect when using Wordpress for your Blog?
I run my site like that. / (magento) and /blog (wordpress) and /froum (vbulletin). You have NOTHING to worry about.
-
RE: Recommended SEO companies
I'm in San Diego. I live in Cardiff by the Sea. I'm about 10 - 15 minutes away. Contact me. You can find my number on my site.
-
RE: Transferring of analytic data
Sounds like these guys are trying to dodge you. Here's what probably happened. Someone opened GA under their personal gmail account and now doesn't know how to transfer it. If this is the case, you have to contact Google. I believe they can transfer the information over, but with the consent of the former owner. "If" the former owner doesn't want to transfer the info over, get a lawyer involved; preferably one versed in internet law.
-
RE: Duplicate Content For E-commerce
What CMS are you using? This sounds like Magento. If so, go to your system > config and make your default site rel=canonical all the pages to the main product listing. Also drill down into all the stores and do the same thing (again if this is Magento).
-
RE: /index.php/ What is its purpose and does it hurt SEO?
This is a server issue. I have known sites that have /index.php in the middle of the URL. It's either a server issue or an .htaccess issue. It shouldn't be that hard to fix. If you need to get a hold of my programmer, just PM me with your info and he will take care of it.

RE: On-Page Grader: F, Backlink still work?
I don't understand the question either "whether the backlink with anchor text still work?". How do you mean that? The grader is only for on page SEO. I don't think the Grader accounts for anchor text because the anchor text link would be pointing to another page (page B). The Grader only grades the current page (page A), not a different page (page B).

RE: Off Page SEO Topic
You can look into external link building. I believe some of the training guides here will be good for you . Print them out and go to a cafe http://moz.com/learn/seo. I think what may help you more is Chapter 7: http://moz.com/beginners-guide-to-seo
You can also look into a software call Buzzstream for Link Building http://www.buzzstream.com/link-building. They have a blog on there too that has good information.

RE: What is a good amount of social shares per week / day?
Sounds like you're going to need to get a new software for your website. There is no minimum or maximum amount for Facebook likes. This is all going to depend upon your competition which we don't know. Use open site Explorer to see what the competition has. It may take a long time to rack up shares.
-
RE: What is a good amount of social shares per week / day?
Try to put the FB Like button on your conversion page and tell people to click the like button so the Like goes to the home page. Addthis will not work for this so you will need to make a button here: https://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/plugins/like/
-
RE: Drop in Page Indexing, Small rise in Search Queries
There was a rolling update on Google that started in May around the 22nd. You may have been affected. Check your GA to see if any notable activity or decrease happened on that date.
-
RE: What is a good amount of social shares per week / day?
Are you talking about sharing on your facebook wall? I would say 20% pimping your product and 80% relevant info.
If you are talking about getting Facebook URL likes, get as many as you can. There is no amount that's too little.
-
RE: Blog.yoursite.com or yoursite.com/blog/?
This is a very typical question that has been answered many times. Go with subfolders. Unless for some security reasons, it's better to go with subfolders.
-
RE: Mass 301 redirect from a sub-domain - using Joomla or htaccess
Yes, this is the way I do it: Listing the URL's in .htaccess. You should be fine like that.
Here is an example:
Redirect 301 /oldpage.html http://www.domain.com/newpage.html
Notice that the domain is not in the 1st part http://www.domain.com/oldpage.html
-
RE: Diluting your authority - adding pages diluting rankings of other pages?
I wouldn't worry about it. Add the 400 pages and make sure it has good content on it. Don't submit thin content. If you don't add those 400 new product pages, then you will miss out on new opportunities. Make sure you are NOT just copying the description from the manufacturer for duplicate content reasons.
-
RE: Multi country targeting for listing site, ccTLD, sub domain or .com/folder?
I would pick subfolders. Here's why. IN GWT you can set country targeting for specific folders.
This video, by Susan Moskwa, is VALUABLE for any international SEO: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/62399?hl=en
At 4 min 22 secs she talks about using sub folders to geo target in GWT. It's a must watch for anyone who is thinking about international SEO.

RE: What language to use for URL's for Russian language?
Listen to Matt Cutts awesome answer here LOL!!!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=suTDT6-Q8NE
I think your special characters may depend on the search engine. Go to Russia's search engine and find out if your URLs display better there: http://www.yandex.com/
I believe Yandex is more popular there than Google is.
-
RE: Tool like Followerwonk for Facebook?
Good question. I don't know of any tools that are like Followerwonk but for Facebook. Even if there was a tool for what you are looking for, I don't think it would be effective because it's not like you can message the fans of the page.
If you are looking for tools to help your FB marketing, look at this post:
http://moz.com/ugc/13-social-media-software-tools-for-marketing-your-company-or-clients
-
RE: Does analytics track an order two times by refresh on the confirmation-page?
I agree.
What I would do is make a $1 test product and run my American Express card to see if it reported. Also I would buy quantity 2 to see if GA is recording that I made 1 transaction with 2 items.
-
RE: ECommerce & Reviews when generated by 3rd Party uses Javascript
@Dinesh, I had been reading this thread and decided to get Shopper Approved for my clients. I talked to Brendan and he told me all about Shopper Approved. I was comparing ResellerRatings.com, TRUSTPILOT.com, ReviewCentre.co.uk, and Local.viewpoint.com.
Shipper Approved seems to have the most value. Tell Scott Brandley that you are landing him 2 subscribers. I see there is an affiliate link there. Your affiliate commission % is 25% lifetime of the customer.
PM me and I'll have my clients use your affiliate code. We are probably going to sign up next week.
-
RE: 301'ing away from an exact match domain.
I recommend to do two things. 1st follow your business objectives. If you really don't have any, then try writing it out. 2nd, and equally as important, optimize for your audience, not for Google. When I hear newbies talk about putting KWs in h1 tags and domains, they are thinking the wrong way. Don't be like me. I wasted time trying to optimize my website so much that it was over-optimized and unreadable.
I stand by my statement, KW in subdomains do not give a boost. If it did, all of us on MOZ would have done that years ago. It would have also created a lot of spam sites.
Do you have any comment on removing the keyword from the homepage content?
I don't know what your GA says. That's your call. If the keyword is not as relevant, then no. All the sites I have ever built had a home page that was about all the landing pages. Go to my site and study it (the shipping one).
-
RE: Do you only allow one URL (link) per Keyword?
I don't quite understand the question "**They fix 20 on-page links every month. " **Is your site that broken where you have 20 broken links per page?
It sounds like you are a beginner. Please read http://moz.com/beginners-guide-to-seo
There is a section, Chapter 7, in there about link popularity. It should help answer many questions. In fact I recommend to many people that they should print this out and go to a coffee shop.
