Google picks up my Magento test sites FAST! That's why I immediately noindex nofollow them.

Facebook Comments | Massive Overall Increase in Rankings! Anybody else experience this?
Last week I implemented Facebook Comments and Addthis to my site. Rankings went up for nearly all my keywords. I have people from Africa, Europe and USA asking questions. Every time someone comments, it is shared on their Facebook Wall.
I want to know if anybody has experienced this besides me?
Here's my site if you want to see it in action.

RE: Ezine Articles
I concur! Ezinearticles has a ton of Adsense crap on it anyway. I have a couple links coming from them, but it's not something I increased rankings for. Instead of using that time on article writing, I integrated ADDTHIS and Facebook Comments into my site. More shares and likes, more interest.

RE: Hosting in the US for an Australian website
Take a look at Rackspace Cloud (Multiple regional (US and UK) service endpoints) & Amazon Cloud. I use both. You won't have a problem with either one. I think Amazon cloud has a Europe, Japan, US and Canada endpoint.

RE: On-Page Question
If you are trying to make more content, always think of the end user first. If you are doing a history, make something unique like a timeline in an image. That is what SEOmoz does. I used to copy and paste many years ago, but whenever I write original content, I get results. My recommendations are: copy the content into notepad & rewrite it yourself OR 100% original content,

RE: On-Page Question
As far as I know, product specs are okay to copy. For instance, a Motorola RAZR cell phone's features are okay to copy from the manufacture's website. There is nothing better than to write original content. Sometimes I rank because of only one word in the body. I developed a site called Shipoverseas.com and I want to rank for the keyword "international motorcycle shipping". Here is the real SERP: http://www.google.com/search?&q=international motorcycle shipping&pws=0
Look at the title. It doesn't have the keyword "international motorcycle shipping". The snippet is generated by Google. That isn't even my meta description.
My point is 'if' you are copy and pasting, other websites would rank for that snippet instead. WRITE ORIGINAL CONTENT. It will make you money.
Once you get to my website, do me a favor since I helped you. Scroll down and share this on facebook or hit the Google +1 button.

RE: Facebook Comments
Tyler, that disqus source code does have a lot of links. I am comparing the two right now (Disqus and FB Comments) and I think they are BOTH great. I may stick to FB comments because I can limit the number of viewable post. If I get too many replies using Discus, I don't want people to get confused and have lower conversions. 30% of my customers are outside the US and have bad English. BOTH sloutions are great, but in my specific case, FB comments are better in my case. If it was a blog, then it would be a whole different story! Thanks for the discuss link!

I need everyone's opinion on this feature. I opened a discussion here using Facebook Comments:

RE: Facebook Comments
Tyler, I am implementing this one my site right now. I'll get back to you on this and everyone following this post. I gave you a thumbs up because your question led me to a valuable feature.

RE: Should the sitemap include just menu pages or all pages site wide?
Maybe even a robots.txt for a particular page like "advanced catalog" for ecommerce sites.
-
RE: Facebook Comments
Tyler, I'm glad you posted this because I was thinking the same thing. I about 3 months I got 150 likes and about 60 shares. My blog can't even do that by itself. I will be replacing it with the Facebook comments. There is more activity. I think this is the code: http://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/plugins/comments/

RE: 404 Errors in Google Webmaster Tools
Your looks like a script or something. It has a bunch of links. On my end I see nothing except the nav bar and some banner ad. NOTHING in the body. I would give this a 404.

RE: In-House SEO - Doubt about one SEO issue - Plz guys help over here =)
I don't clearly understand your question. Are you trying to get your 1st site to rank instead of the 2nd one? In regards to duplicate content, cross domain rel canonical. If you NO INDEX your 2nd site, don't expect it to show in the SERPs at all.

RE: Widgets like Facebook Like and AddThis - Any Negative SEO?
Yes, watch Rand's White Board Friday on 2011 Ranking Factors. I just put it on my site yesterday. It's at the bottom: http://www.shipoverseas.com/us/ship-car/europe/shipping-car-to-germany.html
-
RE: Widgets like Facebook Like and AddThis - Any Negative SEO?
I don't know of any pitfalls. As a matter of fact, I think the more people who 'share' on the AddThis Facebook button, the higher your rankings will go.
-
RE: Does a Single Instance of rel="nofollow" cause all instances on a page to be nofollowed?
maybe a NO INDEX, NO FOLLOW would cause it. But I don't think a no follow external link would cause the others to turn into no follows.
-
RE: Linkbuilding for Clients? Do I create new email account for outreach?
I never respond to anyone using a gmail account. I always think it's someone who doesn't know who to set up an email.

RE: How do I track a PDF?
Downloads. Besides, is it possible to tack just one URL? This URL is not in my CMS. I created a file in FTP called PDFs on the root folder.
-
How do I track a PDF?
I have this eBook in PDF and I don't know how to track it:
http://www.shipoverseas.com/PDFs/how-to-buy-a-car-in-usa-and-ship-it-overseas.pdf
I ultimately want to do like SeoMoz in their Ranking Reports: Export to PDF
Anybody have a quick idea on how to do this?

RE: What is a good closing ratio? I am at 32%
Update: The numbers are still solid. People are still filling out the quote form. After 3 months, the actual closing is around 5%-6%. It is profitable. Thanks for the compliments regarding my website.

RE: Panda Update: Isn't a link still a link?
EGOL, let's take this scenario. I have one link with PR 0 coming from Berkeley.edu and the other link with PR 0 coming from EzineArticles.com. BOTH links pass zero Page Rank. I don't get the link juice from the DA 86 from Berkeley nor the 91 DA from Ezinearticles.com. Assuming everything is equal, neither link hold value, right?
PS. 100 drunks voting for me would be awesome, but a link blessed by the Pope would be better.
-
Panda Update: Isn't a link still a link?
I was doing some link building and some SEO's said that the Panda update affected many websites. I am going to use eZineArticles.com as my example. EzineArticles was affected by the Panda update and does not show up in the SERPs as much as before. But they still have doFollow Links coming from the articles I am submitting.
QUESTION: Regardless if EzineArticles was affected by the Panda Update, isn't a "Follow Link" still a "Follow Link" OR am I completely wasting my time on this devalued website?
Edit: Yes I know a PR 0 page is not as valuable as a PR 9 page. I am asking from the standpoint of the affected Panda Update domains overall.

RE: 200 Redirects for SEO instead of 301
This question is not clear. Are you saying http code 200 or quantity 200? There is nothing called a 200 redirect. A http code 200 is normal. 301s are an 'old' URL pointing to a new URL. A blog post beautifully demonstrated this yesterday. http://www.seomoz.org/blog/an-seos-guide-to-http-status-codes

RE: Creating New Pages Versus Improving Existing Pages
Run your webpage on the On Page Report Card. http://pro.seomoz.org/tools/on-page-keyword-optimization/new It will grade your webpage. Only do this for the web pages that are ranking in the top 50 (or whatever you determine) and decide which ones to improve. It sounds like some of the webpages you have may have some potential with just a little tweaking.

RE: Multi-lingual SEO: Country-specific TLD's, or migration to a huge .com site?
If you redirect to a sub domain, the page rank (link juice) won't transfer.
If example.de 301s to example.com/de, then Pagerank flows through. In addition, your DA helps out too. So if you example.com has a PR 5, using example.com/de will be easier to rank because you are not starting off from scratch. You are using the PR power of the site. "IF" you create de.example.com, you are starting from complete scratch as if was a new website. subdomains are treated as almost like a completely separate site.
Geo Targeting works for me.

RE: I request a WBF on article submission to Demand Media, EzineArticles, & more.
Thanks to both of you. You were both awesome. The agreement with my client was going to end in 2 months. That's why I wanted to take the short term approach. I took the owner of the company to breakfast today and had a long and honest conversation. He wants to retire and said the long term link building approach is what he wants to keep a stable retirement. He said short term would be too volatile. He is giving me 15% profit sharing + on top of my current compensation so I can be incentivized to stay & grow the company. Over 90% of the business is driven by internet.
EGOL - I am launching a WordPress blog on my site and keeping the best content for myself. This will be my long term approach. I have about 20 AWESOME articles for my blog AND an eBook that I will give away as a download. I am also going to take your advice on getting my content on highly authoritative sites.
Daniel - I will be submitting the 'okay' articles to ezinearticles.com & eHow just to provide some more links.

RE: What the . . ! Duplicate Pages and Titles WAY up?
Are you using an ecommerce software? What software are you running?
-
RE: Multi-lingual SEO: Country-specific TLD's, or migration to a huge .com site?
This is what I did.
-
example.com (English)
-
example.com/de (German)
-
example.com/mx (Spanish)
I went to Google Webmasters and did a Geo-Country in Germany for my German folder example.com/de. Since I translated example.com/mx into Spanish and wanted it to rank in Mexico, I geo-targeted for Mexico in Google Webmasters.
You can repeat the process for all the countries.

RE: I request a WBF on article submission to Demand Media, EzineArticles, & more.
Thanks Daniel. My client ships cars from USA to other countries. Obviously these countries have their own import taxes, permits, & fees. Each article is going to be written specifically for that country with links pointing to the specific webpage, not the home page. Currently I have about 20 countries we ship cars to. Thanks for that directory list.

I request a WBF on article submission to Demand Media, EzineArticles, & more.
I am way past OnSite SEO. I want other avenues of earning links, not chasing people for links. I have about 20 articles that I want to put on my upcoming blog. Doing this will not build links immediately, but what about high quality article submission?
I have example.com & I plan on creating example.com/blog.
I need links to my site within 2 to 3 months. I feel becoming a freelancer for Demand Media (eHow) or a writer for Ezinearticles would be easy & faster than waiting for natural link building. Of course my articles would have embedded links pointing back to my site.
ANY SUGGESTIONS? How about a White Board Friday on this?

RE: Need an SEO pro to build us a new fine art website
I see what you mean by using intuit. You have outgrown that software. I know you say you don't need any ecommerce software, but for what you are looking for, it may be better. You can disable a lot of features like I did in my site http://www.shipoverseas.com. That site is made using Magento Commerce. You need an image oriented website, kind of like a jewelry site. When I worked at a web development firm, we would charge about $20K+ for something that needed custom application development. Are you planning on running ASP or PHP? Also Google Merchant? Why not Authorize.net.
PM me and I can refer you to some people. But these guys who I refer are the real deal. Intuit and yahoo stores are a big nono because it limits functionality to whatever their CMS is capable of doing.

RE: Should I pursue this LINK?
DA=39, Dmr=3.37, Dmt=3.39 and a Page Rank=0? PR ZERO? Did it get Google slapped? Rand talks about that in one of his white board fridays. Two things can be happening here. Either that site is thriving and Google hasn't updated it PR in about 3 to 4 months OR it used to have PR, but got demoted by Google.

RE: Best local listings submitting service
When I think of UBL, it's more for national listings. I used Localeze. Check out getlisted.org.
-
RE: Special characters in URL
If it's an ecommerce site, then 301s may take forever. I agree with Shaun about the mod_rewrites.
-
RE: Crawl questions
Your source code looks different to me, if not .... abnormal. What's with doing above the description anyway. I don't know if that code is blocking the crawler from that code to . I'm no code monkey, but all my metas are right next to each other. Yours are completely separated from the title. Take out that code and see if it happens again. OR better yet, go to GWT and FETCH AS GOOGLEBOT. For sure that will tell you what Google bot is seeing.

RE: Title Element length too long?
Using "Gaggle - Chevy Corvette Lovers forums" many times over and over again may seem a little spammy. If 100% of your threads/titles have "Gaggle - Chevy Corvette Lovers forums", I think you may run into problems. I saw a video 2 weeks ago of Matt Cutts talking about that. I thing it on YouTube under GoogleWebmasterHelp. I know you are not intentionally trying to spam, but 1000 if you have 1000 of those, I don't think anyone can argue it.
-
RE: How can I get unimportant pages out of Google?
I agree with Alan's reply. Try canonical 1st. If you don't see any change, remove the URLs in GWT.

RE: Demand Media & Link Building - OMG?
I will be syndicating content via ezinearticles.com. I am also looking into demand media. You brought up a good point though. I don't want my articles from those content sites to compete with my own. By taking a look at my PA, DA, DmT, mR and all metrics, I need to build DA the most. So the articles I will write are not for my main keywords on the homepage. Instead the articles will have embedded links pointing to subcategories instead of the home page. For some reason my home page PA is 45 while DA is 35. Any thoughts? By the way, thanks for helping a mozzer out. You're going to be my new mentor. Cisco

Hey thanks for getting that info. Those rates are on the high end. I'll be waiting for your message regarding Westin getting rates for nearby hotels.

MozCon Question: When are you getting rates for hotel lodging?
So any word on the Westin Hotel pricing? Paying USD 340 /night is too much!

RE: Demand Media & Link Building - OMG?
EGOL, thanks for the reply. I failed to mention the article 'referenced' me, they did not write specifically about my site. My competitors used directory links and spammy techniques to rank for my highly competitive keywords. I believe in what you said on your profile:
Favorite Thing About SEO: "Launching new content! Watching it climb the SERPs through passive linkbuilding."
This is my site: http://www.shipoverseas.com ; actually my client's site that I built and am marketing.
I think your 1st suggestion fits me the best. The 3rd would be good if I made a blog, but I didn't make one yet.
I have concluded, I need a mentor in this area of marketing.
EGOL, how do I get syndicated? This is a new field for me. I want to 'earn' links instead of chasing people for links.
-
Demand Media & Link Building - OMG?
When the last linkscape update happened, I saw a new incoming link from USA Today Travel. SeoMoz rates the link as a 9.5 for DA and PA is 24. The article was written by someone from Demand Media. I tried contacting the author to work out a deal. Since I did not receive a response, I investigated Demand Media myself. They are a large group of content writers. I have finished building the site and now I'm in the link building process for highly competitive keywords.
My 2 Questions:
- I can write articles all freakin day about what I do. I NEED to build links. Should I become a freelancer for Demand Media? I don't care about the pay because I am well paid.
- Is there anything to be concerned about with the Panda Update?
- All responses are appreciated. Please give me a thumbs up if you found this question interesting (because apparently some other post says nobody gives thumbs up)

MozCon Registration - When can we register?
When can us Mozzers pay for this http://www.seomoz.org/mozcon
I need to buy my Mozcon tickets for July 27 - July 29, 2011 and begin arranging hotel and airfare before rates go up even more. It's peak season.
