If I want to rank well on one keyword would it be better to optimize multiple pages on the website for the keyword or should I only optimize one page for that keyword?

Hi Sara
Now a days google doesn't make any sense if thousands are links comes from single domain, it might be possible that google consider it as an unnatural links and you are doing over optmization of your keyword. so it is batter to use variant relevant pages of your domain. Target relevant inner pages with keyword variation it is best method for the keyword optimization.

I don't fear keyword cannibalization. I attack it.
If I want to rank for a difficult term - "widgets" for example, I prepare a comprehensive page (a few thousand words and lots of images and data) about that topic. Then, based upon keyword research of what people are looking for and my own knowledge of what they need to know, I prepare many detailed pages for the really important second and third level keywords.
Each of those topics are explained on the comprehensive page and presented as a subheading but much more detailed information as well as more images, data and graphs are on the second and third level pages.
After this is in place Google should see that my site has everything that anybody anywhere is asking for about widgets and the presentation is rich with data, photos, images and deep content.
So, which do you think will rank higher -- what I described above or your puny page?
For my labor I will also attract an enormous amount of long tail queries.
==========
If you prepare a few narrowly-focused pages about a topic you can run into cannibalization problems because these pages compete against yourself. However, if you plan a broad saturation of the topic region you can actually achieve double listings for lots of the secondary and tertiary keywords.

Yes, 100% agree with Thomas. Then spider will go to sub pages through the main optimized page and will not occur any keyword cannibalization. So after you have done sub pages and linked them to main page, you must check the main page using On Page Optimization tool using your keyword. So, it will show if there any keyword cannibalization.

One page.
But you could use multiple pages to keep it a consistent theme on the website. If you want to rank for Shoes, then you create one page for shoes. Then create other pages more specific to say running shoes, or dress shoes, but link them back to your shoes page.
In a perfect SEO world...
sub pages = Running Shoes | Dress Shoes | Snow Shoes
All linking back to the Shoes.com homepage, optimized for Shoes.

You must optimize only one page. Not multiple pages.
You will have a clear idea about that after you read this great blog post, posted by Rand
How to solve the keyword cannibalization

Is page speed important to improve SEO ranking?
I saw on a SEO Agency's site (https://burstdgtl.com/search-engine-optimization/) that page speed apparently affects Google ranking. Is this true? And if it is, how do I improve it, do I need an agency?

Renamed a page and created a 301, page lost its rankings.
We changed a page name to fall under the root of our site from domain.com/page1/page301d/ to domain.com/page301d/ and after 2 weeks it still is not back to its #3 position. Now it is on the bottom of page 3. I cant figure out what im doing wrong here. The original .com/page1/ that this page fell under was removed totally and redirected to antoher page that was more relevant. I went ahead and re-enabled this page and its contnent, because the page was linking out to the page we 301d. This page we re-enabled had about 150 links poitning to it and therefore i was thinking that maybe the link juice from this page (or relevancy) via an internal link was helping it rank. This was updated about 6 days ago and the internal link is back Any other ideas why this might not be working. Ive checked all the 301s, content has not changed on the page. We have updated the strcuture for many pages. Instead of having the pages in question fall under anotehr page, they all fall under the root and its sub content is now only 2 levels deep , instead of being 3. hope that makese sense.

Is it better to have an hreflang go to the home page in a different language if there's no corresponding page
If I have some pages in English, but not in Spanish on my website: Should my hreflang go to the home page on the Spanish site? Or should I not have an "es-MX" hreflang for that page? Ideally I would have all the pages translated, but this has not all been done yet.

Should a website have the same standard headings for product pages? And how does that affect SEO?
Hello! I hope my question is self-explanatory but let me give you an example. Suppose I have website X selling A, B and C and I have a dedicated page for each of those products. For SEO practises, Is it better to have the same webpage structure for all product pages (i.e. the same headings and sections) or is it better to vary the structure of the page? Or is it really not important? Again going back to the example, is it better for product page A, B and C to have the same sections in the same order (i.e. Pricing, Product Details, Product Reviews) or is it better to keep it as a flowing content page (product page A has same information in B and C but all those pages are different with different headings and questions asked depending on the product)? Many thanks!

My website is saying I have duplicate page content and page title. How do I fix it?
Hi, I created a website on webstarts.com. After I launched it then ran a scan through SEO it says I have duplicate page content and page title. The 2 pages it is reading are technically the same page. www.mobilemowermedicsinc.com and www.mobilemowermedicsinc.com/index . I am unsure how to get rid of on of these as it keeps saying this is an error in the SEO scan. Could someone please advise me of what to do from here. Thanks!

Zero ranking after a month of ON Page Tweeks.
I've been tweaking a Wordpress little by little over the last 3 to 4 weeks but I'm making no progress in the rankings for my keywords. All keywords are still reporting >50 in the SEOMOZ Campaign. Here's the clients pet keyword: "Sailing in Scotland" www.capriceyachtcharter.co.uk The site is indexed and shows IF I search for the company name "Caprice Yacht Charter" What am I missing? Thanks in advance Steve

Home Page is Not Ranking Anymore on this ecommerce site
Hi Everyone, I work regularly on this site www.cheapsnapframes.co.uk which is a cubecart based site and upto a few months ago the home page used to rank on poster frames we were on page 1 of google now we are on page 2 but it has dropped the home page and favours a category page. I have been looking at this to try and figure out why and I have today realised I had some external links on the home page pointing to the .com which the site used to run from but has been setup as a 301 redirect so I have changed these to internal links. I have used the on page tool and get an A but its been showing an A for a long time. Is there any other reason why we have lost out on this keyword term? Thank you in advance Tracy

Can you optimize for 2 keywords per URL?
Or should you just stick to 1 page, 1 keyword all the time? If you do 2, are there any things you should watch out for? Thanks
