Hi David,
If you've got duplicate listing issues going on, then yes, that can definitely affect your rankings. Duplicates in Google+ Local can totally sap your ranking power. In other indexes the main concern with duplicates is that if their data varies in any way, they can decrease Google's trust in the validity and accuracy of your data. So, if you've determined you've got a duplicate problem going on, then that is a very likely contributor to ranking issues.

Hi,
Thanks for the great content, I'm utilizing all of these strategies described in article.
The problem that i'm facing with is duplicate listings, not for many local directories, but for a few , so i don't know if thats an issue with my rankings.
Thank You

Hi David,
Without actually seeing the website and listing of a client in a situation like this, it's not possible to give targeted advice. So, we must speak generally:
-
Have you done competitive analysis. If not, try: http://www.51blocks.com/online-marketing-tools/free-local-analysis/ That may show you why competitors are outranking your client for this specific term.
-
Mentioning a keyword in the midst of many other keywords on a homepage is typically not going to be enough to get them to rank for it. As you say, you've gotten this client ranked well for their core terms, so I'm assuming this is a secondary, side term. How much content have you developed for the terms and what does the link profile look like?
-
You must always consider penalties in local when you fail to rank for something you think you should. Have you accidentally violated any of Google's policies? See: http://support.google.com/places/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=107528
These are a few ideas to start with. Hope this helps!

Hi David, local business is an hard niche since there are many places added and it's always difficult to exactly know how google ranks those results. However you're already ranking for general terms, this means you made a good job by now.
Try to optimize your website to enhance your local business page too (steps explained in details here).
After having do that I strongly recommend Rand's tactic on how to enhance rankings for one specific place. It seems really simple and logical but many sites misses this process.
I hope those two articles may help you getting to the top!

CDN image links passing SEO benefit?
We used a CDN to host all of the images on our site, and the paths are such:

http://cdn.onedirection.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/harry-styles-tongue5.jpg Frequently we get a lot of other websites using our images, which we're fine with, but I would like to know if we get any SEO value from these image links? Interestingly they do appear in the "Just Discovered" section of OSE. Cheers, Chris.0 -
Google Local Page Not Showing in Search Results
Hi! I am having an issue with our business's Google+/Local/Places/whatever-the-heck-you-call-it-these-days page not showing up in search results. I work for a company called Nexxtep Technology Services. We are located in Valdosta, GA. We have a Google+ page that's filled out nicely and I would love it if it would show up next to the search results when you search "nexxtep technology services" or "nexxtep valdosta" in Google. For some reason, it does not. I have a feeling what might be a source of the issue...we have developed and hosted websites for clients, and we used to put a link to our site in the footer. Now, I know that's not a good thing to do. We don't do that anymore, and I have since removed those links from existing sites. I removed them almost 6 weeks ago now. Should I give Google a little more time to crawl these sites again? Any guidance would be tremendously appreciated. Thank you for your help!

Canadian site ranking well in states
Hello, one of my clients has a site that ranks well in Google.com but is a Canadian company and therefore has a canadian address. They have not yet done any local optimization so if I was to add them to local directories, would that hurt their ranks in the states or anywhere else?

Google Places Local Submission
Hello We're going to upload a bulklisting to Google Places for multiple locations. However, there are existing Google places listings for these locations. The bulklisting is being used to undertake a refresh of all the existing data. How do we go about updating the existing data i.e. do we have to delete the existing information prior to submitting the bulkload, or does a new submission over write the existing data. In addition, how does Google Places verify a bulkload submission i.e. do they make contact with the designated business owner. How long does such a process actually take (roughly!). I know some of this is touched on in the Goolge Places help section, but it is not clear and I don't want to get this wrong for obvious reasons. Thanks in advance for your assistance. Rgds Neil

Hosting All Content Images On Flickr For Blog - What are SEO implications?
Hi, I am starting a travel blog and thought of the idea of hosting all the content images over at Flickr and just calling them into my blog content when needed. Benefits: push traffic over to my Flickr account pull traffic from Flickr to my blog However, I was just wondering about any SEO implications of having 3-4 links per post pointing to Flickr. Is this spammy? Will I lose my juice? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.
