YoutTube vs Vimeo
-
I am just wondering if there are any SEO considerations when uploading a video to either YouTube or Vimeo? Should i choose one over the other or is it okay to upload to both? Haven't stepped into the video part of SEO waters before

Actually, I just stumbled across this, and I'm very glad you updated it!
Thank you,
Ruben

I know this post is a bit old, but for anyone who stumbles upon it I think that it should be noted that in late 2011 Google converted all of their YouTube dofollow profile links to nofollow.
Therefore, I think that the argument of back link building because of the follow is irrelevant between the two services. From an SEO standpoint more merit should be given to the fact the YouTube is the #2 ranked search engine which could generate site traffic if your content doesn't get washed away by the 70 hours of video being uploaded every minute. For integration purposes and customer satisfaction I prefer Vimeo as it doesn't have all the adds.
The best, and obvious answer, should be to self host them and use an HTML5 player if you can. Here's some good reading for more on these services:
-
Nothing that can harm you as far as I know, however it's annoying when you want to track success of a single video across many channels as all counters are adding up to a general number of views/likes/shares/comments...etc. This can prevent a potentially viral video from reaching its critical mass, at the other hand however, it gives a wider number of entry points for different types of users.
-
Another thing to make sure to do is to embed the video on your own site and create a video sitemap. Google will index the video as being on your site even if it is hosted and available on YouTube.
-
I like that.
Now is there anything negative about uploading the same video to both services?
-
Here's a dead obvious advantage of YouTube over Vimeo:
- YouTube profile page link is dofollow.
- Vimeo profile page link is nofollow.
Why is this important? Because PageRank flows to those pages internally and from other sources and in Vimeo's example it doesn't pass any love back to the author.

What is the best way manage these locations list, so they are not completing with each other in local search. Â for example, if search for "urgent care", we will like our medical practice group location show up before individual doctor in local search. Â What is the best practices for managing your group location lists and your individual doctor lists? Thanks!

Footer links vs Homepage Content
We are redesigning this site http://www.crystalshop.co.uk/ but not reinstating the ecommerce yet so the primary aim of the site is to increase foot traffic in the shops. The list of shops on the RHS of the homepage is really messy but is useful. I would like to move these to the footer... is this a bad idea? If this is, is it a bit of a gamble to move it to the bottom of the homepage rather than higher up as it is? We are already featuring a link to the shop finder page but I want to get the locations in as prominent place as possible but it's quite a long list!

Places listings vs other ORGANIC listings
Not sure how to search for exactly the answer I'm looking for, because frankly my question (at least to me) is hard to describe. I will try my best, though! So I have a client who has an audiology business. They are located in Denver, CO. For search, we have them listed in the PLACES portion of the local search results (with the map, phone, address, etc). We saw this as a pretty big win, because its a fairly competitive market. HOWEVER, the client feels like those listings aren't as clicked on, or aren't as prominent as say, a regular organic listing that would have a page title, and description. I am assuming that isn't correct, that if I could only have 1 listing I'd want the PLACES one, but it occurred to me that this assumption isn't really based on any data I have personally read. So my question is two-fold. 1a. Is my assumption about being in PLACES accurate, that that listing is more desirable (even if I could pick which one to get, which i don't think is realistic) and 1b. Has anyone seen or have data that backs up my assertion one way or another. Would love your thoughts! William Smith @williamsmith

Confused about Google+ Local vs Google Places
If you're doing SEO for a new local business that currently does not have a Google Places listing (or a Google+ Local page), do you have to set up both for them? Â Or do you simply create the Google Places listing and wait for Google to merge it to a Google+ Local page? I am so confused!

CTR of Video Rich Snippet vs. Normal SERP
Hi there, We were ranking no. 1 for one of our key terms for a long time, however a competitor of ours by the looks of it purchased a load of private blog network links and managed to shift above us. The page we rank for on that term has a video with the markup to trigger a video box rich snippet (which i've noticed never seems to be given on position 1 but can be for 2 and below) - so that is now what our entry in the SERPs is. Since then we have actually dropped down to 3rd, with the web page now being in 2nd not having any new links / content in a very long time. Therefore I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about whether the video box could actually reduce CTR which could have resulted in us dropping down to 3rd ? The meta description text seems to be reduced to 100 characters with the vid box, so we're not getting our full message across where the others in the results are. My natural assumption would be that the video box would gain a higher CTR, but i'm thinking this may not be the case for us. Does anyone know of any data relating to the video box in the SERPS ? Many thanks, Stuart MtsbA.jpg

Placing video testimonials on website vs. YouTube
We have produced a number of video guest testimonials. Any SEO considerations or other hosting it on our website (what software to use?) vs. YouTube (and just embedding it on the webpage)? Are there certain situation or circumstances when YouTube is not the best choice for placing video on a website? Thanks.

Multiple domains vs. Single domain
I've been reading up on this subject, but I still can't clearly decide which is better. Your insights will help me a lot. I work for a client with 1 powerful corporate website and many small dedicated websites to individual projects. Which strategy would I focus on? The powerful corporate or the small individual websites? As I see it: Which is better? One powerful domain with lots of pages dedicated to a single subject PRO: more inbound links, more pages, sometimes URL exact match CON: less focused on a single 'theme' Different domains dedicated to different subjects PRO: more focus per domain to a subject CON: less inbound links, less pages... less power Thanks in advance.

Local Keyword vs Business Name in URL
I am working with a local business owner who has purchased multiple domains. One includes the geographic area she serves and the type of business she runs. The other includes her business name and the type of business she runs. She is unsure of which domain she would like to use as the main URL for her business website. When choosing a domain for a small, local business, would you consider it advantageous to have the main geographic area that the business serves in the URL rather than the actual name of the business? What would be the best use of domain name which isn't selected from a SEO standpoint?
