      Hi,

Does anyone have any experience in targeting cheap/discount/value etc keywords in an SEO campaign?

      I'm interested to find out:

      • How Google perceives these keywords, as the search results are only very slightly different if you search with or without a 'cheap' keyword.

      • Whether Google differentiates between 'cheap synonyms ie 'cheap' and 'affordable'. There are far higher searches for 'cheap' but affordable is much more user- and conversion-friendly.

      Thanks,

      Karen

        Hi Karen,

As you mentioned its hard to work Google out so you have to sometime use your best guess.  Logically I would agree a mix of anchor text, and keywords could hep that page. The other way you could look at it was the keyword volume for each term and then target those terms presumably better than the likes you asda etc.

IT also comes back a little to what Google interprets the terms for, I would recommend looking into the search volume between the two.

        Good luck!

          Hey Chris,

Thanks very much. I think you're right that I am over-thinking it (as any SEO would when trying to figure Google out!). One thing that stands out for me is that when I do a search (for example for 'cheap console tables', very few of the results on page 1 mention 'cheap' or 'discounted' in their title tags, or their pages. Yet it does seem to know which sites stock cheaper console tables (ebay, gumtree, asda etc). Do you think this could be just down to the use of the word 'cheap' across the rest of the site?

          Karen

            Hi Karen,

I wonder if you're over thinking this a bit. Lets look at what Google's job is, its to bring the best result back for a users inquiry. Now there are some exceptions to that (like adult content and some pay day loans) but for the most part that rule is true.

Now the question isn't what Google thinks its what the user thinks is there a difference in the user typing 'cheap product' compared to 'product' ? There is going to be difference between the two searches because the user wants to see different results for each one. You can always test this out by going to Google and trying different searches you can then double up your theory by going to ad-words and looking into search volume between the two.

I hope that helps a bit.

A Solution to Keywords Being Grouped in Google Keyword Planner

Hi guys, I am trying to get search traffic for a list of keywords which I put together a few years ago for one of my clients, this was before Google made changes to their Keyword Planner. When I am adding the list into Google Keyword Planner it is "grouping" a number of the keywords/phrases together, and therefore removing 13 of the keywords from the original list of 59 keywords. Is there a way around this so I can get search volume for the original list, and not the cut down one? I am specifically using Google Keyword Planner as I want to get search volume for a number of specific locations in the UK. Any comments/feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! Jack. I19Op

              Keywords with and without diacritics

Hi, I am trying to make my site to appear in the search results even the searched term have or have not been wrote with diacritics for example: "șarpe" or "sarpe". The language is Romanian. If I seach for "Românul cu maşină, marea victimă" or "Romanul cu masina, marea victima" the first result for both searches is the same. I don't see anything special on their html code and I am wondering how do they did it. Regards, Bogdan

How to finalize the keywords for SEO?

Hi, I use the following method for keyword research: Create a long raw list of keywords. Use Google AdWords Keyword tool to find monthly searches. Find raw competition. Find direct competition (via allinanchor: search operator) Calculate KEI (Keyword Effectiveness Index) Calculate KOI (Keyword Opportunity Index) Is there any other (better) way to execute the keyword research? Or is finalizing/selecting the keywords only on the basis of monthly searches sufficient? In short, how to select the best keywords from a long list? Thanks & Regards

              Keywords + Country?

Hey guys, Let's say that I'm doing on-site SEO for a website that sells football shirts. This website targets 5 different countries. We only have a .com domain and no other country specific domains will be added at this point. When I choose the keywords, do I opt for product name + country or only product name? football shirts france or football shirts? Some info: Countries have been added in the title of the pages. Countries appear in the footer. Thank You.

Has anyone tried SECockpit as their Keyword Research tool ?

I'm looking for a tool to help with keyword research, and judging by the presentation and few reviews I could find, SECockpit at http://swissmademarketing.com/secockpit/ seems to be a nice product. They pull their data (partly) from SEOmoz, which is a good sign. Any feedback ? Thx Gil

              Keyword Difficulty Score Assesment

What is a good keyword difficulty score to pursue when deciding which keywords to try and rank on? I'm in a very competitive field and I am currently in the process of doing keyword research to look for the low hanging fruit.
