Paid Yahoo Listings - I Need This, Right?

With the help of a 3rd party contractor, our company has been claiming and curating local listings for several months across dozens of advised platforms. After months of nightmares with Yahoo support, I see that they no longer support free basic local listings and you must buy enhanced listings at $9.95.
I'm correct in proposing this to my supervisors, right? We have 70 locations so that's a pretty penny (and have already dropped some funds on our initial efforts), but isn't this a necessity? Not just because it's a top 3 search engine, that it's a major part of the local ecosystem, but that they also have partnered with Yelp and are ramping up their local search efforts?
I know there are new tools out there right now (Moz Local, Yext, Locu, etc.), but I only need Yahoo and they don't fit in with our needs at this time.

I'm not in the tool, so I'll leave that to those in the know. However, to clarify you can still do free basic listings. So maybe that's what they're doing, and that's what you're seeing.
I'm referring to whether I should pay for listings so that I can get the specialized attention I need for 70 locations that are giving me grief. So it's within that frame that we are weighing whether they carry enough influence to be worth it.

Donna, Yahoo isn't included in Moz Local. Unless I'm missing something ...
Update: I based that on the page where they list their partners, which does not include Yahoo. I guess even though they aren't a partner, you can populate your Yahoo listings with this tool? If so, I apologize for the misinformation.

Wondering why the new Moz Local tool bothers to include Yahoo then? Why don't we just drop it entirely if "they are not a major player in local search"? Are there other players listed in the Moz Local tool that we can ignore as well?

Thank you Miriam - good stuff! I did feel strongly until I started asking around. Now I'm on the fence. I'm getting the impression they aren't a big enough player to justify the investment, although I initially thought the recent Yahoo announcements meant this could change. Maybe I assumed too much too soon. Maybe we wait it out. The fact that it's a top search engine also had me assuming hands-down this was a necessity. Glad to have a place to throw out these questions.

Hi Bryan,
I am currently using that option. Unfortunately, they no longer offer customer service to free listings and I require a lot of assistance. Of my 70 locations, there are many, many that need help. For one, the PINs our locations are receiving for verification purposes aren't even working. Other listings are rejected, pending forever, etc. and I have no idea why and have no means for finding out.

Greetings Sarah,Yahoo tries to get you to pay for listings, but you can still create a free listing and claim it with a post card (just like g-local).
It is hidden on their page, but you can find it here: https://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/local-listings/
Bottom-right hand option is what you'll want.

If you are targeting Apple, go with Yelp and/or Yext. They are the major players in the Apple world.

Yep, we've done all of that.
Just making sure I've done my due diligence. And I was just advised by a trusted source that purchasing those Yahoo listings is, essentially, ill-advised.
This is why I love Moz.

Looking at that info I would hands down go with Google Local. Then YP, Yelp, Superpages, Foursquare (all which offer free listings that will get you the results they are referring to.)
Yahoo Local isn't really a player at all with Apple and that is something to think about.
I just don't see why paying Yahoo is worth it. They are not a major player in local search. Nobody I know uses them. Even the people I know who use Yahoo mail don't use them for search.

I don't see why you "NEED" Yahoo. We don't use them for our clients and other SEO companies that I am close with don't use them. Why do you feel you need to use Yahoo and pay them? Google has the majority of search traffic. Yahoo is just a little blip in comparison. I am curious as to why you feel so strongly? Hello all I work for a small company. we do carpentings and old wooden furniture repairs. With the same company, we've started a tiny house building business, which is completly different of what we usally do and this is a national business wj The question is, can a create a different google my business listing for this activity ? The exact name of each department must be different from that of the main business and that of other departments. Typically such departments have a separate customer entrance and should each have distinct categories. Their hours may sometimes differ from those of the main business.
• Acceptable (as distinct listings):
o "Walmart Vision Center"
o "Sears Auto Center"
o "Massachusetts General Hospital Department of Dermatology"

Google my business: How "Listing on Maps" are calculated? They are too high for us!
Hi Moz community, Our business listing on Google show some unbelievable statistics. According to their insights, we have 21K "Listing on Maps" and 1K "Listing on Search". This is impossible. Have you ever faced this? How these are calculated? There is no way that our business will be searched 20 times more on maps than usual search. Please clarify. Thanks

Maps Listing Decrease End of Aug/Beginning of September
Hi there, I was wondering if I could get some assistance for my Maps Listings. Our property management company, Bay Management Group (https://www.baymgmtgroup.com) started in Baltimore, then added an additional location in Maryland in 2015. We’ve had great success getting both locations to rank organically and in Maps listings for most related terms (property management in Baltimore, Baltimore property management, Maryland property managers, etc.). We have recently expanded and have opened up a new office in Philadelphia. Organic rankings have been pretty good for this location, and Maps listings were gradually gaining in the rankings throughout the summer, however, around the last week in August/first week in September, we started noticing our Maps listings decreasing in the rankings (organic has remained about the same). At first, it was just the Philadelphia Maps listings that were affected, then that started to spread into the Baltimore and Maryland related rankings (again, just in Maps listings). While Baltimore and Maryland Map rankings have started to improve again, we’re struggling to get Philadelphia related rankings back on track. We have tried the following items, but still aren’t seeing much of a rebound. All Maps listings have been claimed in Google (Baltimore and Maryland were claimed ~2010 and 2015 respectively; Philadelphia was claimed in June 2017) Yext and Facebook have been updated to exactly match the phone number and address to how Google Maps has it listed The phone number and address on our website (https://www.baymgmtgroup.com/philadelphia/) exactly matches Google and Yext listings (note that the site has Call Tracking Metrics in it to change the appearance of the number when coming from Adwords or organic search) Updated all business information in Google Maps (NAP, hours, photos) and have used the new “posts” section to publish company updates Last week, we also updated our site speed to perform better in Google’s Pagespeed Insights. The site is responsive and has AMP on the blog posts as well. We've also been keeping an eye on Search Console and there aren't any manual actions against the site. Any thoughts on what we could be overlooking here that’s hindering our listing from rebounding (and improving) on Philadelphia-related Maps listings? Has anyone else noticed significant changes in their Maps listings since the end of August? Thanks in advance for your feedback!

GMB listing not showing for local searches
Hi all, I've optimised an existing GMB listing that has been in place for over a year. The client is a yacht/boat broker and marine repair outfit based in Mallorca. When I search for terms that they 'should' be ranking for on Google and on a Maps search, they are nowhere to be found, yet their listing does show when you type in their company name. I've read lots of Local SEO guides and followed their advice but I'm not sure what I'm meant to do next?

Google “My Business” Map Listing
We are Heritage Printing & Graphics, serving 2 areas (DC & Charlotte, NC) with Commercial Printing (books, magazines, catalogs) and Event Signage (banners, backdrops, custom displays) Our current location in NC is 2739 Interstate St. and we will soon also occupy 2731 Interstate St. (next door) which we would like to promote as Heritage Custom Signs & Displays. Google+ Business Listings: Hours Displayed Incorrectly
Hi, When I do a search for our brand + location name (basically making sure we at least appear for that) the hours displayed are incorrect except when I log into our account to edit the hours they are right. Ex: Google SERP displays hours 8am - 11pm but within business listing account hours entered are 8pm - 10pm. Has anyone come across this and why would it be? Is it a case of other citations showing the incorrect hours? Thanks for your help WMCA

Upstream locations to mark a business closed that will cascade to other listings services?
Working with a multi-location business with hundreds of locations, there is always a certain amount of churn (closures, new locations.) In some cases, the business owners never claim listings, or claim them in only the major local business listings such as Yelp and Google Places. Does anyone know of a good post or discussion about how to do a "cascading mark as closed" which will make its way through the LBL ecosystem eventually? In other words, is there a few upstream places to mark a business closed that will influence the consumers of their data feed? thanks!
