Link Building
-
Hi Mozzers,
I work for an IT company specialising in outsourcing Cisco Engineers worldwide. Due to being involved heavily in outsourcing, I'm finding it impossible to generate genuine and organic links to our website.
My question is that is it essential to have back links back to our website to achieve high search engine rankings?
I'm unable to get clients and other partners to provide links as we're the outsourced company, but I can get backlinks from unrelated c ompanies. For example we're running a CSR initiative with a National Gym relating to health & fitness, also links from our web designers etc... Do these links have any type of value?
Any help and feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your feedback Zen Man,
Creating quality content was a prerequisite when redeveloping the website and I would like to add infographics but find this creates problems on a Wordpress website.
Interviewing key employees is a good idea. I planned to have our technical team/partners write content for our blog (I'm a marketer not a tekky guy) to appeal to our audience, so I'll certainly take your advice to include employee interviews.
Appreciate your advice.
Thanks

Creating quality content is really the way to go. Try to be as original as possible.
We often find well made infographics are really useful for creating links. people like pictures!
You could consider as well some interviews with key members of the organisation or people with specialist niche skills. These pieces can often be very interesting.
Finally i would advise before you start come up with a content plan, it will help you stay focused on what needs you need to be produced and where it needs to be promoted.
Best of luck!

Hi Mat,
That's some really useful advice, thank you.
We are currently preparing to launch our new website and within that our new blog and your suggestions will make for some juicy and interesting content - leading to back links I hope!
It seems as if our blog may be the key to organic link building.
Many thanks for your input

Links are essential to ranking in competitive areas, yes.
If people do not want to link to your current content and you need links then you need to be thinking about what content you can add to your site that relevant sites will want to link to. Â A salary survey of Cisco engineers, maps of world-wide demand and the like could be really interesting and valuable.

Do I ditch the link building and risk the drop?
I am currently on top of SERPS but am worried about some of the links being built by my seo company. We add loads of content to the site which I think is fine. We have somebody working on the on page and tech side of things which I think is fine. However I am still paying an seo company which basically builds links for me. Because I am in top spot for many terms I am nervous to turn it off. However I am also nervous that one day I will wake up and we will have been penalized! They do not build many links and they are convinced that google still want to see a varied link profile. If I stop paying then some of the ‘better’ or higher PR sites will no longer have a link to my site and will therefore drop off. We do have a great site with great content so I think we do many things well but I am nervous that these paid for links will be the death of me if I am not careful. The question is do I get rid of the link building and risk the drop? Or is a small amount of links just to keep the link profile looking Ok and not overdoing it the right move? Thanks a lot. Dave

There are still a few things that I need clarifications for link building. I have joined many forums and I am following some big website (Seomoz / search engine watch / search engine land) and such for ideas about link building. There are various different suggestions among them for example about Create a blog, Profile links, Article directories,Web 2.0 submission,Press release submission, Infographic submissions,Company directory submissions,Video submissions,Niche specific directories,Logo/Graphic/Web design directories,Free web directories,Non-English directories,RSS directories,Guest posting,Games Submission's and social bookmarking, Blog commenting, Forum posting.Q&A,Wiki Links,Local listings,Getting trackbacks. one would say to use it the other would say not to, can you please guide as to what is the right way to follow these suggestions. Also nofollow backlinks have any effect on the SERP? Thanks.

Two link building proposals, which one is better?
Hi there, Our site has a DA of 73, MozRank 5.40, MozTrust 5.88, and over 45,000 external links. Â We haven't done any offsite SEO before, we got to where we are today organically. Â We're thinking about hiring a link building firm to help increase our rankings and we've received two proposals. Firm A offered to build us 30 links from DA 50+ sites over 3 months. Â The anchor text will most likely just be our domain name. Firm B offered to build us 90 links from PR2+ sites over 3 months. Â They have control over the anchor text. Given our site's profile, which proposal makes more sense for us? Â Would either of these initiatives move the needle for us? Thanks.

Link Building Template
Hi all, I am looking to find an actionable, easy to use, link building template to be used by myself as well as across office/clients. Key subject areas for link building have been defined but I am keen to apply a template to past and future link building opportunities as I build on the link building tactics I have a number of link building targets e.g. form competitor analysis, existing links from websites and looking to reach out to amend their anchor text, prospect websites Does anyone have a good insight into categorising the different link building targets by sector? Many thanks Simon
