How to understand if a certain company doing SEO or not?
-
Hi guys,
I am wondering how we can tell that the certain company doing SEO or not?

Hi Ahmet!
If you're experiencing thia situation, I'm very sorry. It can be frustrating to figure out if the company you've trusted with your digital marketing is doing what they say they are.
Here is a Moz blog you need to check out that pinpoints six things to look out for:

Taylor has some great ideas. If you want to look at their on-page history you can go to archive.org and see versions of their pages from the past.
Many times, you can tell if a company has been doing SEO by watching their rankings go down. I am serious here.
So, a better measure of "is this a company who is going to be competitive" is to look to see if they have a steady stream of content that is valuable to their potential customers and business credibility being added to the site. This does not have to be an enormous stream. Instead it simply needs to be quality and published regularly. This is what I would fear and respect in a competitor.

Completely agreed with Taylor.

I believe the best way to accomplish this would be the following:
- Frequently check up on their backlinks. If it's consistently being updated with new resource pages or blog posts linking to their site, that would be a good indicator they at least have a linkbuilding campaign in effect.
- Keep track of their On-Page Optimization. If you've noticed that over a few months they have changed their Title Tags, Meta Descriptions, h1 tags, etc., multiple times then there's a good chance that their SEO is experimenting with using their keywords to greater affect in regards to On-Page and how it's impacting their rankings.
- Be bold and call them and ask what company is doing their SEO. ^_^

Pre Launch New Website SEO Best Practices
Hi All, I am currently mid development of a website (no testing page yet) and want to make sure I am doing my due diligence in regards to SEO. Are there best practices to always complete while a website is being built? If so what are they? I've gotten to the stage where I've read every blog on the planet and now maybe too much info. I am also focusing my Keyword Analysis around competitor research to write great copy from, but seem to be falling down a rabbit hole of way too many keywords. Is there agencies/services that would just be hired to do Keyword Research for my needs? Thanks a lot!

SEO ranking question
Hey, If a site for had a series of articles, and had the privilege of guest posting on several sites, such as mashable, entrepreuner.com, inc.com, and a few other not as big sites. and let us also say that this site is new and currently has pagerank of 0. How would the above benefit the site and the visibility of the articles on google? Also, with guest-posting, is it problematic to have the exact article also on your site? thanks in advance!

Do unindexed pages affect SEO?
Been looking at a couple of sites recently. I've seen that they contain a couple of 'default' pages from the build process. These pages aren't of any significance to the main site and as such aren't actually linked in anywhere.

I did a site:www.example.com search on google and as expected the pages aren't indexed. Could these page be have a negative affect on SEO in the future?
Even though they aren't indexed or linked in anywhere. I look forward to you responses...0 -
What To Focus On SEO / Link Building for this campaign to rank again..
Hi All; I recently joined Moz and I am really starting to learn a lot here. I am still finding it difficult to figure out what to focus on the most to improve my rankings (although I do have some page 1 ranks) I have one strong competitor who has a SOLID spot in the top 5 of google for the past few years for the keyword I would like to be ranked for again. (as they have always been a competitor of mine either 1 spot above or 1 spot below). then i fell off google in January and finally made it back to page 1. But their links are thousands higher than mine. What parts of my SEO Link Building should I focus on the MOST to improve my ranking to move up a few spots? Followed links vs No Followed Links Followed Linking Root Domains vs NoFollowed Linking Root Domain Any help would so greatly be appreciated; also please explain why you would focus on that part of my campaign so I can better understand as well. Thanks again

SEO's done, 301s in place, old site STILL outranks new site. What to do?
Since Sep 2010 I have had a site up with minimal SEO optimization (www.chrisbrushmusic.com). Oct 29, 2012, I launched a new site on a new domain (www.chrisbrushdrums.com) with more content and tons of SEO work behind it. The content of the new site is significantly different from the old site, and I wish to keep the old site around. I have 301's in place for specific URLs on the old site that point to the new site. I have submitted xml sitemaps for the new site. As of now, the old site still outranks the new site (i.e. Google search for "nashville session drummer" and my old site is #9 - my new site is nowhere). What should I do? Thanks.

What numbers speak volumes to you when you want to get an idea of how you benchmark against your competitors? And how do you communicate these results?
