From my testing (and I do a fair bit of that) I conclude that links still outweigh every other signal. Though it would make perfect sense that newly introduced hints steal a bit of link graph's glory until it's put in a fair place with everything else. I notice Matt Cutts still talks about links a great deal in his videos which confirms my view that links are still going strong.
What puzzles me is how strongly they treat exact anchor text, when in natural world we rarely see it happen, it's usually click here, or read more or just plain website address. This is the area I believe needs fixing sooner than others.
Back to the original topic... once links stop being a super-signal content and function will rule.

I have believed since 2005 that links are depreciating assets and stopped linkbuilding completely at about that time.
Today I think that google is moving to social media signals, visitor actions, and site quality metrics. These are very difficult or impossible for SEOs to monitor. As google moves to these more invisible signals for ranking websites the ability of SEOs and others to manipulate their rankings decreases.
Matt Cutts, in a video, said that they are using social signals in the rankings and every new signal that is added has the potential do depreciate the value of links.

I agree with you, Dejan.
But I believe that Google is moving more and more away from links. As that happens link assets will depreciate. I want my competitors to invest heavily in depreciating assets.

But there is one problem EGOL, not all SEO people are creative. Extraordinary content and assets could be staring you in the face, but if your Goggles are tuned to technical settings you will miss the most obvious opportunities out there.

Do Explainer Videos Help SEO?
My company makes explainer videos. I often come across a lot of (seemingly) inflated & unprovable stats, pertaining to explainer videos, from other companies. This article claims that "Having an explainer video on your web page makes it 53% more likely to show up on the first page of Google search results" Is there any real data to back up such a claim? Do explainer videos really help SEO? How?

Google Hangout Video Takeover?
A while back I posted about a youtube video campaign that dominated the attorney rankings throughout Florida. Today, I noticed a new hangout video that does not have the reach of the before mentioned video, but it has just popped up as number three for the term "Tampa Car Accident Attorney." It wasn't even listed anywhere in the first few pages Monday. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=barTgGYQTIM Has anyone else noticed Google Hangout Videos having this kind of success or is this a "flash in the pan" incident? Also, is there any significance to this even being a Google Hangout video as opposed to just a youtube video? Thanks, Ruben

Both video and article schema markup properties?
I am curious, if i can add both "video" and "article" schema.org markup for my video pages. Currently i have video markup up and running, but it only shows up in SERPs when users browse videos (not web content). Can i add "article" markup as well, so the markup will show on Web search? Thanks, Dime

Alternately, my site (and each page, thanks to Yoast SEO for WP) does have the rel="author" linked to Google+ for every page, which may make the sitemap entry moot, but I have not yet seen this work in that manner. If you know it does or does not work, please let me know. Please let me know if you have any better information or specific experience. Also, if I elect to edit my sitemaps (provided by Wistia.com and BitsontheRun) to include this tag, what XML Sitemap Tool might work well to add these tags properly? Video SEO: Youtube, Vimeo PRO, Wistia, Longtail BOTR Experience and questions
Obviously Video SEO is changing, Google is figuring out how to do it themselves. We are left wondering… Below we have tried to explain what we have learned and how the different sites work and their characteristics (links to graphics provided) Our problem is: We are not getting congruent Google site:apalytics.tv Video filter results. We are wondering how duplicate content may be affecting our results… and if so, why will Youtube not be duplicate and prevent your own site SEO efforts from working. Is Youtube special? Does that include Vimeo too? We see our own duplicate videos on multiple sites in Google results, so it seems it is not duplicate related…? We’d appreciate your experience or add to our questions and work as a community to get this figured out more definitively. Thanks! We’ve tried four video hosting solutions at quite a cost monetarily and in time. 1.) Youtube, which gets all the SEO Juice and gets our clients on to other subjects or potentially competitive content. Iframes just don’t get the results we are looking for. 2.) See Vimeo Image: Vimeo PRO, a $200 year plus solution that allows us to do many video carousels on our own domains hosted on Vimeo, but are very limited in HTML as only CSS content changes are allowed. While we were using Vimeo we allowed the Vimeo.com community to SEO our content directly and they come up often in search results. Due to duplicate content concerns we have disallowed Vimeo.com from using our content and SEOing our content to their domain. However, we have many “portfolios” (micro limited carousal sites on our domains) that continue to carry the content. The Vimeo hosted micro site shows only three videos on Google: site:apalytics.tv During our testing we are concerned that duplicate content is causing issues too, so we are getting ready to shut off the many microsite domains hosted at Vimeo. (Vimeo has an old embed code that allows a NON-iframe embed – but has discontinued it recently) That makes it difficult if not impossible to retain SEO juice for anything other than their simple micro sites that are very limited! 3.) See Wistia Image: Wistia, a $2000 year plus solution that only provides private video site hosting embedding various types of video content on one’s site/s. Wistia has a free account now for three videos and limited plays – it’s a nice interface for SEO but is still different than BOTR. We opted for BOTR because of many other advertising related options, but are again trying Wistia with the free version to see if we can figure out why our BOTR videos are not showing up as hoped. We know that Google does not promise to index and feature every video on a sitemap, but why some are there and others are not and when remains a mystery that we are hoping to get some answers about. 4.) See Longtail Image: Longtail, Bits On The Run, (JW Player author) a $1,000 year plus like Wistia provides private hosting, but it allows a one button YouTube upload for the same SEO meta data and content – isn’t that duplicate content? BOTR creates and submits video sitemaps for your content, but it has not been working for us and it has been impossible to get a definitive answer as I think they too are learning or are not wanting the expose their proprietary methods (which are not yet working for us!) 2O9w0.png 0eiPv.png O9bXV.png

Videos increase ranking of products in SERPS from Ecommerce Website
Just noticed something I've never seen before..and I just wanted to see if anyone else experienced this. I work for a 15000+ item eccommerce website, and today I noticed that on a few brand searches, several individual product pages were coming up. This is actually unusual because most of our individual item pages (including these) aren't ranked well enough to show up well in a brand search (and don't try to target brand terms either), but a correlation here was that both items contained videos referenced within. These were not videos hosted on our YouTube brand page either..these were videos done by separate manufacturers - one was hosted on their site, one on ours. Google actually pulled the snapshot of the video to the SERP as well... even though it was embedded within other product copy. Has anyone else noticed any preferential treatment given to effectively random items on your eCommerce website because it was augmented by video? I can assure you there was nothing otherwise unique about these products and they're not really that sought after. Neither item or url was new, and neither were the videos within. Also, this was a Universal Google search, not one for videos. (Sorry, I'm not allowed to reference directly). Thanks.

Does Length Matter... In Videos
Hi, Are there any facts, opinions or anecdotal evidence to suggest that a video on YouTube has to have at least x length to rank as a result in Google? Everything else being exactly equal, is a 20 second video about as likely to rank as 2 minute video? Thanks! Best...Mike
