If I built log network for my own personal use(no link selling) would this be a white hat or blackhat thing? The content would be hand written, but the link won't always be relevant to the niche. Can anyone offer some insight?
-
There's no easy answer to this.
| How can I go about becoming building relationships with web owners if I have little to give for a high quality link.
That's the main problem. It starts with having a really amazing website.
However, at this point in time, if you are trying to rank a site in a competitive niche I would say that it is really hard to compete using only whitehat tactics. Sites are still getting away with all sorts of spammy tactics if they are smart enough to avoid Penguin. I personally believe though that Penguin is going to continue to get better and better and eventually the vast majority of those techniques are not going to work. But right now, many of them are.
Try going to google and do site:seomoz.org "white hat". You'll find a lot of discussions on what can work. However, it's darn hard. If you can produce a high caliber of stuff that people would naturally want to share on Facebook and tweet about then eventually you will start to attract links naturally which is what Google wants to see.
I have a good sized informational site that does really well with this type of thing - produce excellent content, do some promotion to people and links come in naturally. But, when working with small business sites this type of thing is hard unless I am super familiar with the subject matter and also if I want to put in many many hours. Producing something that will go viral and attract links is difficult.

I would buy this. It sounds like a good read.

Start by making content that deserves to be linked to (no easy feet could take you tons of time and $) but then you at least have a reason to be linked to. Then you can package it in infographics , guest posts , comments etc and earn links

competition are black hats offering white hat seo services! Thanks for the responses, I used the Seomoz tool and got a full report on the highest ranking. I guess now its time to use Scrapebox to find people who I can "convince" to link to me

LOL.

Maybe write "Confessions of a Blackhat".

Ayite, think of Link Building as Brand Building. Unfortunately, there are no shortcuts. You will have to come up with things that people would want to link to. Think of a combination of Link Bait, Infographics, Press Releases, Some Guest Posts and other misc links. Just a little bit of everything in your niche. Not too much of anything.
I would also start with analyzing your competition backlinks and see how and where they got/get their links from. Try to get some of those kinds of links.
It's a slow and steady, painful, expensive process. But it works.
Spun content has no value for the user. I would therefore suggest investing time and effort in building value to the user. If you are able to do that, you will gain loyalty amongst your users. Depending upon the niche and nature of your website, your user's may share your website on their blogs and social media. They may also come back to your website and so on. That does what Google is looking for in real sites...sites that should rank.

Having some problems with understanding how to properly use anchor text for my keywords' better rankings. Please help!
Hello, Last week I did some work on my website's inner pages linking and some of my highly ranking keywords fell down as a result. I guess I did something wrong, please help me figure out what exactly was wrong! Here is the example of what I did. I put a link to the page that ranks for 'Thermador repair Brentwood' here: http://www.ifixappliancesla.com/blog/2016/09/12/appliance-repair-brentwood/ I put exactly same anchor text, 'Thermador repair Brentwood'. For my blog posts, I use Yoast plugin, so when adding the link, I received the message "You are linking to another page with the focus word you want this page rank for. Consider changing that if you truly want this page to rank." While this one's ranking, 'Thermador repair Brentwood', didn't fall down, others did. Could you please confirm if my understanding is right and I'd better not use the same keywords on two or more pages? If yes, what is the best practice for linking to the pages that are not in the main menu? Let's say, I decided to do blog posts for the areas my appliance repair company serves and to optimize those pages for respective keywords. So, I have pages like "Appliance Repair Service in Brentwood" (which is optimized for "appliance repair brentwood" keyword), "Appliance Repair Service in Beverly Hills" ("appliance repair beverly hills" keyword), etc. I thought that the best way to link to them is to put the same anchor texts: "appliance repair beverly hills", etc. But it looks like the best way would be to use the anchor texts like "Beverly Hills", "appliance servicemen in Beverly Hills". Please tell me if I am right? Any explanation, advise or referral would be much appreciated! Thank you!

When you are manually posting to blogs, how closely related does the content of the blog have to be to the website?
For instance, if the website is for a hotel, would it be acceptable to post on travel blogs?

Please point me in the right direction.
Hi everybody, My company recently stopped our SEO service as a cost-saving measure. Now it's up to me to do SEO in-house. I mainly do marketing and graphic design. Though I know exactly (maybe not) what to do to successfully maintain our rankings the SEO company achieved and rank for new keywords, not sure where to start. I know i need to make sure our website is optimized for SEO. Got that in the works (Our SEO company never advised on on-site seo) I know I need to create good content with the proper keywords and use anchor links. Where do i put this content? Do i purchase a domain and just put it up there? EZinearticles? or any of those article sites. I've already reached out to do guest blogging on some sites but have not received any response yet. Should i hire a writer? If anybody can give some pointers on where to start. I've got my list of keywords and keyphrases, I'm all ready to go. How can I begin my in-house SEO campaign? Thank you so much!

Fresh set of eyes on this page please. Why isn't it ranking?
Morning all, I'd really appreciate it if you could take a quick look at this page and see if I'm missing something here. The targeted keyword (wedding favours) is pretty competitive and the rank had been slowly improving until recently and we've now slipped to 25th on Google UK. I've added a "Pay with a tweet" button for our eBook which has been pretty well received (around 100 downloads) so far so the social side is better than our competition. I've also written a few guest blogs with links back to the page from a variety of sources. Here is the page analysis on OSE. If you could take a quick look and let me know if I'm missing anything here, it would be most appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Duplicate Content, Replicated Websites, Noindex Type Question.. Need Advice Please
So I am working for a Multi-Level Marketing Company. The members each get their own website which is a wilcard subdomain. So we have example.com (Main site) mysite.example.com (Replicated) They both are literally the same content and I have chosen to noindex, nofollow the subdomains, but as a SEO that presents a problem with linkbuilding. However, the member only gets credit (think affiliates) if the click comes from their subdomain. I don't want duplicate content penalties and I don't want the members to possibly lose out on a sale that would otherwise just be credited to the company if the link was redirected to the main site instead. Did I make the right decision?
